Encounter Tokens and Large Action Markers come from MeepleSource!
"It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.
Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player represents a character from one of five factions of Eastern Europe who are attempting to earn their fortune and claim their faction's stake in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.
Each player begins the game with different resources (power, coins, combat acumen, and popularity), a different starting location, and a hidden goal. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game (each faction always starts in the same place).
Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Other than each player’s individual hidden objective card, the only elements of luck or variability are “encounter” cards that players will draw as they interact with the citizens of newly explored lands. Each encounter card provides the player with several options, allowing them to mitigate the luck of the draw through their selection. Combat is also driven by choices, not luck or randomness.
Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict for players who seek it, there is no player elimination.
Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times."

Hello Solo Gamers! Enjoy the next part of the Scythe series! Serenity steps in to make a big decision and now I need your feedback on what to do next. Let me know in comments below. Cheers! :) 13:00 Made a mistake by moving my Character across the river. Seaworthy doesn't allow for this movement. The solution will be to adjust by moving my Character to the steel territory (with my two workers) where there is an encounter token instead. Then I'll place an encounter token back on the village. Cheers! Thankfully, no major impact to gameplay. *Thanks to Hal and Gustavo for pointing this out!* 29:00 The worker should have been placed at the hex with my character. This is a quick fix and I'll cover this in the next video. *Thanks to Miami Let's Play for this one!*

Excellent video! I love this game and I have recently been trying to play more games solo, I am considering using the Automa as a third player in a 2 player game, so this video is super helpful. At about 8:30, you place an automa mech and need to choose a hex between the player and the other automa. I would have played it the same way you did. However, have you come across the tiebreaker listed in the “complete” rule book on Stonemaiers website? It seems specific to tiebreakers in games for more factions than a 1 player vs 1 automa games. It involved placing markers on the faction loacations around the board. I can’t say I really understood what they are suggesting. I was curious if you were familiar with this ruling.

@@RollingSolo I definitely think it’s a new addition that came out after you filmed this video. I think the idea is to make it more fair, as normal reading order tends to bully particular factions who begin at the top of the map. I have only played solo against the Automa, and barely won my first game against the Autometta the other day. LOL. I have yet to use the Automa as a third player.

At 29:00 i believe you place the worker in the wrong spot . the rulebook states "territories in the neighborhood of any automatic unit or its home base which do not contain an enemy unit or Automa worker other than the one selected." That would mean that the spot where the automa character is would have 4 neighboring units and the worker would have been placed in that spot. I can be totally misreading that but thought that would change the game dynamic. Thanks for the great vids.

Awesome catch! You're correct on that. It should have been moved to the hex with the character. This is an easy fix and I'll correct this in the next one and add it to the pinned comment. Cheers!

Hi...I think the mistake takes place during the previous worker movement. It should have been moved along with the character, because that spot had the most automa units: 3! Even during the white faction turn, there is a mistaken movement of the worker. It should have been moved between the character and the other two workers!

Trevor, I think that mech needs to be dealt with for sure. Hopefully soon. I'll ask her permission first though ;p haha

Suggested plan of action: Do a Bolster action (pay 1 coin to get 3 power) and build another mech and get 3 coins (since you already have the 2 metal) and the round after that do another produce. You pay 1 power (you already got 3 before), 1 coin (you already got 3 before) and 1 popularity, Produce metal and food and then do the enlist on the deploy action. Then do another Bolster, then another produce until you get all your mechs out and do all your enlists. You probably will be close to max out on power as well. That is, until you run out of popularity and cannot produce anymore. Then focus on getting more popular :P

Hon! Now this is the type of feedback I love. Well done! I'll keep this in mind as well as trying to become more popular haha

It’s really not as bad as it looks and the Automa is quite fun to go up against. Especially with two of them. Maybe even three once you’re more familiar with the rules. :)

Just picked up this game and absolutely loving it, I know this is an old video now but I have a question about the Automa cards, when it's faction specific do you just do that action and not the others? Seems a bit odd on some cards. Like the yellow player had a faction specific of collecting a coin, if you wasn't the yellow player then you moved to the other action which was take a coin!

I’d have to rematch this one as it was quite awhile back. But what you said makes sense! Thanks for watching 😄

@@RollingSolo thanks for the quick reply, reading the Automa book (p8 step B) and asking a Scythe group on FB in the movement box you just do the faction specific, in the gains row say it was a "(red-mech) mech" if the automa the red player it would gain 2 mechs! It's a bit of a game changer.
@rudders107
@rudders107 6 жыл бұрын
I think when checking the combat power of the automa in combat, you draw a new automation card to see what they spend. So you don’t know in advance how much they will spend 😋
@RollingSolo
@RollingSolo 6 жыл бұрын
Hey rudders! You're correct on that. We'll see that when combat rolls around soon I'm sure. You do have some knowledge going into it based on the automa card but not all as I don't know what values the automa has for its combat cards when one is pulled at random. Thanks for watching! :)

Great video as always! I actually just picked this up myself to play solo. Question. Shouldn’t the white faction get a star for getting all 8 of its workers out?
@RollingSolo
@RollingSolo 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jason! The Automa gains stars differently than normal as follows, "Automa scores stars for hitting stars on its tracking card, plus reaching full power on the power track, plus up to two combat victories."

At 24:00 you placed a worker in a hex based on an adjacent worker and mech, but wouldn’t the northwestern hex at eleven o’clock have a value of 3 and thus be the appropriate deployment hex?

You're correct Jerrod! That was a miss on my part. It would indeed have been 3 there. Thanks for the feedback!

Why are you able to move the mech onto a lake at 9:25? I thought lakes were impassable. Also at 29:40 with the yellow worker and 32:06 with white worker.

Hey Darin! Automa units treat lakes like normal territories once past the crossed out wave mark on their star tracker card. Hope this helps! :)

Your riverwalk ability is to cross rivers to forest or mountains, so is not possible to your character to cross a river to the village.

Hi you seem to be getting the valid hex move wrong on this playthough, you are mis calculating the neighbourhood hex’s, neighbourhood hex’s include the hex a unit is on, as well as any other Automa unit, so a few times you have moved your workers these have been incorrect, also you missed counting other units neighberhoods for worker movment, you only counted workers for neighberhoods.probably a lot to keep track of with 2 Automa players.
