Throughout Rollo's entire time on the show, Ragnar treated his own brother like shit. I love Ragnar as a character, but that is no way to treat a brother. In the beginning of the show, he promised Rollo he would always be treated like an equal. And then, Ragnar never did. Rollo wanted to step out of Ragnar's shadow because he was taking all the fame. He could've rewarded Rollo with land, slaves, women, but Ragnar never rewarded him at all. The only one to keep him from turning was Siggy. After her death, he felt no reason to there. So I understand why he betrayed his brother. I wouldn't want a brother treating me like shit either.

@@jesseoliver6457 Ragnar said that before he was an Earl and before he was King. Let's not forget Rollo betrayed him right after Ragnar became an Earl and despite that Ragnar kept him alive and around.

@@jeremyorthman1873 but yet, Rollo was never rewarded. While Ragnar was in England, going to meet Eckbert, Rollo did his best to defend Kattegat and Ragnar's children. And yet, Rollo never got so much as a thanks.

​@@jesseoliver6457 so he protected them, they wouldn't have been put in danger like that to begin with had rollo not betrayed his brother and Everytime ragnar had power and could actually give rollo a benefit rollo showed exactly why he shouldn't be given any, ragnar risked his life even bribing the lawmaking to keep rollo alive and rollo thanks him by switches sides and defending against his brother not for the first time either, and even if someone promises equally split gains, when you're king you can't be seen as weak or indecisive ever and rollo never said anything to ragnar about payment or land or anything or the sort

@@Smokey.the.masked.besrker he shouldn't have to say anything. Ragnar should've just given it. By the time Borg was invading Kattegat, it was 4 years after Rollo betrayed him. So during the invasion, Rollo was actually doing his best to gain Ragnar's trust again. And Rollo only ever betrayed him twice. Once when he sided with Borg and again when he stayed in Frankia. And those betrayals wouldn't have happened if Ragnar had given him some kind of reward to keep him on his side. Rollo always wanted someone to follow to follow into battle, to look up to. But what good is that when that someone treats you like shit for almost a decade? No show of thanks for everything you do. No appreciation other than keeping the law from executing him.

He was also the most successful. Ragnar's legacy died two centuries after him, and the Viking era was long gone when Rollo's descendants reached their peak.
