I recently visited some friends down in the Cotswolds and thought I should take in some of the local sites of interest. Starting with what is currently a record for oldest site for Out with a Brew at around 5000 years old. The Rollritght stones are located just outside of the village of Little Rollright on the border of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire in the UK.
There are three sites in total at the area. "The kings men" is the biggest collection and consists of a complete circle in the field on top of the hill. The second site is "The Whispering Knights" considered to be the oldest of the stones. It was a burial chamber in a classic Portel Dolmen style. There are 4 stones left of the original setup. Finally "The Kings Stone" sits alone in a field over the road from the other two.
Over the years the site has has some fantastic folklore built up around it and I intend to trial making video on this subject, possibly with some actual voice over.
You can park for free and visit the sites on foot. There is limited on road parking but I had no trouble finding a space on a Sunday afternoon. There is a suggested donation of a couple of quid for visiting. Aside from that there are no facilities. There are no paved paths but some semi-maintained walkways. It was quite muddy when I visited and I'd consider access to be semi-rough.
As a bonus, I also visited the nearby Hoar Stone. Another prehistoric burial chamber / standing stone. The site is tiny compared to the much bigger Rollright stones but is beautiful by itself.
