@@Jan_372the meteor was basically a merlin without the superchargers and super high compresion and the like... 1700 cubic inch, 600 or so horsepower. That's how I knew it was relatively normal to see that much fire from the thing on startup.

The mighty Meteor engine! There were a few differences, but it's pretty much a Merlin aero engine without a supercharger.

An acquaintance of mine has one in the garage under a living complex. We fired up a late night some years ago. Car alarms and a lot of very angry people showed up. Now that's what a Rolls Royce does! It brings people together!

In 1974, we started a Chevy 454 in shop class without the exhaust manifolds attached and you could hear that thing all across the neighborhood. That Rolls had to be way louder than this video would lead us to believe!

The British Meteor Tank engine is a derated version of Merlin engine that powered WWII aircraft like the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Lancaster bomber. Post WWII the engine was used in the Centurion series of tanks. Mark from Melbourne Australia
