With 355,000 inhabitants, it is known as "The city of great loves", a good reason to come here.
We were lucky to witness an open-air dance with Latin rhythms as soon as we arrived, confirming the character of this town in Eastern Europe.
It is known that the Romanians, unlike their neighbors, speak a Latin language and we will try to verify if this has influenced their way of being.
The bodies cadence each other to the sound of music. We are very far away and at the same time close to Latin America.
Enjoying a public space in this way gives us an idea of what awaits us on our tour of Romania.
Although she is a stranger from the other side of the map,
Iasi was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia, of the United Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia and of the Kingdom of Romania, between 1916 and 1918.
However, Iasi is not part of the international tourism that comes to Romania, despite having an airport with direct flights to a large part of Europe, and countless attractions, as we are going to see in this video.
Another of the moments that we highlight from our first day in Romania takes place at the entrance of the university.
Perfectly dressed, the graduates pose and walk around to remember on this unforgettable afternoon when they receive the award for having finished their studies.
Fitted dresses, high heels and beautiful hairstyles deserve a look.
Regarding this, there is a surprising number: the oldest Romanian university was built in Iași: it is the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University. that today there are more than 80,000 students in the city, that is, more than a fifth of its inhabitants go to this university.
The best way to get around the city of Iași is via the trams. Line 3 is perhaps the most used, linking the Iași railway station with the suburb of Dancu, passing through Tatarași, an overcrowded mega-district. We enjoy walking these old irons through the center of the city.
Great loves can be accompanied by great hatreds.
A man well known to Argentines was born here, in Iasi, in 1925. He is Bernardo Neustadt, a journalist of Romanian origin who for 30 years hosted the influential program Tiempo Nuevo on television.
Entering Romania through Iasi is something that we never danced had in the plans. Bucharest, the Black Sea and Transylvania await us, good excuses to continue sharing this side of the map with you.
