Jon could absolutely rename this series "The Iron age collapse, return of the sea peoples" at this point

Oof, poor Amulius Brutus - he became a prominent commander called the Wrathful in Jon's original campaign and here he got reduced to standing around in the Greek countryside as a rebel.

It would be incredible if at some point Jon ends up becoming a horde just burning and sacking cities to stay alive

I just started a Vandal campaign today in barbarian invasion and as someone who knows very little about them, it's nice to find out that my decision to head straight to Italy and burn the entire peninsula is actually fairly historically accurate.

"none of this has been according to plan" Honestly, have you ever have a plan going accordingly? I think it's just customary in this channel for the plan to go awry, Jon accidentally saved the day with his accidental genius, and go around saying "oh god i'm a genius"

I read "The Grand" and had a mini heart attack thinking it was the grand finale already

It also feels incredibly appropriate that Jon hired sarmatians, one of the early Roman republic's fiercest enemies, to overthrow roman rule in southern Italy and murder roman nobles.

I've been rewatching Jon playing Barbarian Invasion whilst playing CK2 as the Mongols, and now Jon is essentially being a horde here Horde day

I find it hillarious, how you accidentally turned your great retreat, into strike against the roman underbelly.

If it were me, I'd target the Julii instead of the Scipii - they've only got 3 cities, you already flank them from the east and south and the Gauls ought to keep them busy in the northwest. Avenge Patavium!

There's something weirdly fulfilling about samnites taking down a roman general.

It’s surprising how much of Italy you can smash and grab with a good series of naval assaults

This is basically a combination of some of Jon’s most famous past Total War playthroughs. Take Rome: Total War, add in some infamous raiding pirates (the Danes from M2), make it a barbarian horde instead (BI), and you’ve got this gem.

Ah, I love it when a world is complex enough to throw your plan for a loop. That's twice that you've had to adapt your plans due to unforeseen events. But this time, the unforeseen event was an opportunity! Great job. Looking forward to where this adventure takes you next.

Imagine starting a campaign as the Brutii and a full stack of Dacian mercenaries randomly shows up on your starting towns and smashes you.

Jon is playing the wild card in this run and I like it!

I would say that this episode could be called a classic Jon victory: a victory that was snatched from the jaws of defeat.....that was snatched from the jaws of victory

Kind of want to see how the Roman rebels do, also kind of want to see them join the pirate armies of the nation formerly known as the Dacians

I can't wait to play this. I keep remembering my incredibly long Scipii campaign. It went on for so long I had so many family members the bloody Maxentii married into the family and I got to pretend I was the Senate again.

Ending the Brutii by turning their final line of defense into popcorn is wonderful.

Congrats Jon! Maybe you can buy some of those rebels before they raise too much hell?

Three episodes and Dacia, having trained no aggressive units of any kind besides mercenaries, conquered the Brutii, securing *Southern Italy*. Is it luck? Is it skill? Who's to say.

Me last episode: Oh man, Jon is losing some territory and this looks like a pretty tense situation. Is he gonna be able to actually finish this run? Me this episode: Oh yeah Jon could probably take out all of Rome if he put together a couple armies

Did... Did Jon just become the Sea Peoples?

Step one: Do research. Step two: Make an elaborate plan. Step three: The enemy does not participate in the plan. ... Step six: Accidentally kill off one of the three most powerful factions on the map. Step seven: Profit.

Honestly this is a pretty fun way to play. Barrel through the map sacking lightly defended cities, tear down all their infrastructure and abandon them to the rebels. When all civilisation has been ground into dust, Jon swoops in to reconquer the ashes. At the very least it'd be hilarious to see Rome surrounded by an entirely rebel controlled Italy. Burn and pillage Jon!

Jon should just continue being pirates and just sack every city on the map. Egypt, Greece and eventually rome. Since he does not need to hold cities to train troops anyways, just wandering around being mercs like pirates.

This mass migration route you are on might just make this the best rome total series on youtube ever. Something like playing as Slavs in the late game barbarian invasion expansion.

Dude my favorite series you’ve done is the Rome total war original and this is sick thank you for making this series

I'd like to give everyone who plays these games a tip. When defending a city, the most advantageous position your forces can take, is in the city square. In the city square, they will fight to the last man, and not surrender, even peasants, so if you find yourself in a battle that could come close, or even looks to be out of your favor, then leave the walls and gateway, and let the enemy into your city, then stage your defense from the city square (especially Rome total war where your city towers will obliterate the enemy, as they march towards the square).

Barbarian warbands(mercenaries) are more effective as garrison troops because public order is exclusively effect by the number of troops( excluding pesant) rather than quality of troops.

I just finished watching part 2 when I saw this on my recommended loving the series so far.

So by repeatedly conquering a city and destroying all military infrastructure, Jon's invading enslaving horde is the most peaceful army to ever exist and Jon is good. Just like Bang Blitzman.
