Once you've taken Rome, I highly recommend taking Adamantium Skeleton just in case Scythia does any more damage to you. Trust me, your armies will do much more damage without that pesky debuff to your SPECIAL that comes from crippled walls.

I kinda love that Jon's plan is to burn everything down because it hurts everyone else more than it hurts him.

I love how the series narrative has evolved into barbarians from the east. In this case John, being driven out of their traditional homeland by a nomadic people forcing them to re settle or perish. Leading them to invading roman lands to settle. This feels like the opposite of the WRE campaign from Barbarian Invasion just 500 years early and I am loving it.

Day 6 of living as the Romans: I honestly don't know why I'm doing this anymore. The Julii are no longer worth appeasing. Do I just like pretending to be Roman? I hope this affinity for togas isn't symptomatic of something more serious...

I quickly need to share the most hilarious victory I have achieved so far: The Pontic king attacked me with a decently-sized army made entirely out of chariots. As they make their way towards my cowardbox, my onager gets a shot off. It just barely hits the edge, burning three or so chariots to a crisp, driving that unit berserk. But since they were all merged into an uncoordinated blob, this immideately kills almost half their army - before driving the survivors berserk. One unit turns around and runs over their king, the rest keep running into each other until only a two are left, fleeing from the battlefield in opposite directions. (And I still lost three men because my Cretans got overexcited)

Well, I've gotta commend Jon for his ability to tolerate AI cheating like that. If that sally battle thing ever happens in one of my playthroughs, you can bet that RomeShell's coming out to play faster than you can say "auto_win"

Jon, I'm 90% sure that if you make a ceasefire one of your offers in diplomacy (without actually offering it) then you can demand a region and thus see all their regions.

One of the funniest things in these games is just when you charge a cavalry into the back of a unit and the MOMENT it touches, the victory window pops up.

All roads lead to Rome. Especially the ones that look like they were laid after a night of extremely heavy drinking.

You're not misremembering anything about breaking ships down. The original game didn't let you disband naval units out on the open sea, it's a new feature of the remaster.

When the AI sallies it usually takes too long to move out of the city, so the game automatically asks the player if they want to call it a draw, but if you press continue, they will actually come out and fight. It seems to be a new little glitch, though I find it strange that the AI can keep sallying over and over again.

I think this is definitely my favorite total war series you’ve ever done. I love the medieval 2 play through but this is so good

If there is one gripe i have about the remaster is what happened at 10:45. In vanilla rome whenever you got a new general adoption option it opened a window right in the middle of the screen. now they are all hidden in the alerts which can be easy to miss alot of. Theres no distinct sound for that alert either.

I've watched a lot of Rome in my day and this accidental migration and conquest of Italia by the mercenary barbarian hordes is definitely the best campaign I've ever seen.

To confirm, the player cannot do infinite sally battles in one turn. I tried that when the Spanish attacked Palma which was garrisoned with 4 units of archer auxillia on top of large stone walls. They lost two units just drawing up away from said walls, and when I didn't pursue, they offered a draw. Tried starting a new one immediately just to pick them off a bit more and was informed that the action couldn't be completed that turn. That the Ai can do it is blatantly cheating.

Also a hilarious strategy I found for defending cities, literally charge them while they are operating siege equipment or stand in their way and block the siege equipment. I absolutely crushed one of the Greek armies this way.

Last time I was this early, Jon still hadn't made it to Ivarstead.

I cannot get over the fact that Jon kept calling Cotiso useless and he spent the ENTIRE game saving the ass of literally everyone xD

Two things Jon missed in this episode are Man of the Hour, (thanks to new UI) and the fact that artillery units can't go through the gate, that's why sally/draw groundhog day happened.

You should send a fleet and general to pick up a few Spanish mercenaries, those guys are the real deal.

Jon you really should use assassin's to sabotage military facilities if certain enemies are giving you trouble.

Jon seems to be having a lot more luck in terms of diplomacy than I ever have, i just rebuilt the Persian Empire and "pay me or I'll attack" deals were paid, and then immediately betrayed, the Seleucids offered me a client kingdom deal then literally the same turn revoked it. Gotta admit, the "total" aspect of total war gets seriously grating sometimes

Something players miss is the combination strength of Ilyrian skirmishers with Barb spearmen on flanks, both are fast and can hurt cav, while Ilyrians can maneuver around to fire from flank or rear with both able to chase heavy infantry down. Often they can trigger a rout and start the roll up.

Honestly Jon you made the right decision by attacking the Romans. I decided to instead fight the Greeks and they sent army after army of armored hoplites against my army of cream of the crop mercenaries and my faction leader, who were behind stone walls. They eventually completely annihilated it and I plan to evacuate to Egypt because of the Greeks and Germans.

This has become my favourite series you’ve done. Keep it up!

Loving this Series. Hopefully Jon can do a "Horde" Run. Rules: Any faction other than Rome. Create a full stack No infantry army. You can build any army you want as long as there's no melee infantry. You can't replace disbanded units. You can't retrain. You can build ships. Win the game with the single army.

If the Germans want that poor town you can give it to them, or exchange it if they go to war against the Schythians.

Jon did you try un-equipting the seige tower? The fact that your on it could be why they wont come. Keep the unit as is and when they get in range outside the city re-equip it.

35:00 - You couldn't in the original. Huge problem in the rebel campaign, as a bunch of useless big boats hanging out off the coast of Eilat would take up your treasury. And you couldn't use them to take over a harbor - only land conquests counted.

That "failed adoption" is the perfect example of how some of the "remastered" UI and messages are a step backwards. Why cant it just give the damn popup with the bell ring as before, why does it have to be hidden in the bloody message system?!?
