Rommel ignored orders to execute Jewish civilians and was not found guilty of any war crime along with his men in Africa. He was even found to possibly be in part of the assassination attempt (July plot/operation Valkyrie) on Hitler and save Germany/negotiate peace. Which is what the July plot was about. Look up Claus Von Stauffenberg. Rommel was given the choice to commit suicide or seek trial after the plot failed. He chose to end his life to protect his family and their reputation so they would not be attacked by the gestapo and the entirely of Germany for their father and husband being found a “traitor to the German people”. He would have died anyhow in a trial anyway. Rommel is amongst those good Germans. Amongst those who were just on the wrong side of history. What could Rommel have done to save all the innocent people in Germany? Nothing. Because he had superiors staring daggers down on him. So believe what you wish. But Rommel is a fair individual who was respected by his own men and the enemy. And I respect him too. May he Rest In Peace

In terms of the last days in the bunker, it must have been terrifying beyond imagination for both parents and the children. They were experiencing the absolute hell of nearby, Allied carpet-bombing, heavy artillery & infantry weapons, being directed at defending positions, by 'understandably' incensed, vengeful Russian military, who were slaughtering civilians, while raping defenseless women & little girls as they advanced. Joseph & Magda were totally wrong not to get the children out of Germany months earlier, but who are we to judge, 78 years later? For reasons beyond me, I love those kids, with all my heart. 🙁

I would not call this evil. I am sure she loved her children, which can also be clearly seen.
