Not much attention has come out as of yet regarding this record breaking throw from Ronald Acuña Jr. but this throw was indeed 105.8 MPH as noted later during the Phillies televised broadcast by broadcasters Scott Franzke and Ben Davis. One tweet has been found regarding the velocity of this throw as of now.

I remember this throw and how crazy it was as well as them mentioning the speed...I wondered for the longest time why it never showed up on statcast- then realized it was because it wasn't an assist... he didn't get him and that's what they record- the hardest thrown assist. Freaking crazy though... the guy's a stud. That quick video of him long tossing the ball 15 rows deep into the outfield stands from the baseline is equally if not more impressive. Great time to be a Braves fan!

@@meme6335 without any inside knowledge, i would have to guess it has to do with him still not being quite 100% re: his knee Whether it be physical or mental, or some combo thereof i couldnt say. but its to be expected if you look at other players' first (full) year back after the same surgery. i guess its the kind of thing where its a combo of mentally not fully trusting it for fear that you damage it again and have to go back through the rigors of rehabbing it again (as a best case scenario) plus it physically not being a linear healing process. ie some days it feels great, good as new, but then a couple days later could feel tight or painful or whatever. im not worried about his long term outook tbh. i think hes finally approaching or maybe over the hump mentally, right as theyre approaching the playoffs. i think after a full offseason rest, hes going to come back next year and be (as close to) the Ronald Acuña Jr hes been from his first game in the bigs to the day he got injured as we could hope.

It's almost like a curse with great players. Guys like Mantle, Griffey, Trout, Stanton, Judge, Ohtani, etc. It really does feel like they're so powerful and talented, that the physics and mechanics of the human body can't keep up with it. I mean seriously, when Tommy John is such a common issue when Tommy John is literally throwing so hard that your ligaments rip, it gives an idea just how insane the game of baseball is.

@@wojak91 I'm not saying you aren't familiar with baseball, you may very well be...but I'm just going to point out that when you throw a ball from 4 steps off of the warning track to home plate and hit your catcher on the glove side of his chest at 105.8mph, that is as flat as it's going to get. That ball, by baseball standards with respect to the longer outfield throws, was extremely flat. If sports media and MLB didn't hate the Braves so much people would have seen it replayed on TV and showing up on all sorts of sports media platforms. Because he didn't throw out Stot, PHI's short stop and one of the top 1-3 fastest players in the Phillies lineup that night, it won't go down as the best outfield throw all time - because he didn't get the outfield assist. As someone who grew up playing baseball and played to a relatively high level and have seen pretty much all of the great throws over the decades, I firmly believe there has never been a better throw than this one from Acuna Jr. Sure, people can talk about throws like the iconic Ichiro throw to third where the runner was out, but I'd love for anybody to reply with a link to a throw with anything close to this velocity, anything close to how low to the ground this ball stayed and still makes it to the base in the air, and anything close to the accuracy of the throw. To put it in perspective, I'd be willing to bet Acuna Jr's throw on that play would've been an out and an outfield assist at a clip of something like successfully throwing out at least 90-95% of MLB base runners if they had been the runner instead of Stot. Honestly it's a good, and surprising, thing that Stot didn't take one step of that tag from third base lightly like plenty of players would have on a ball that deep.... or he would've gotten smoked.

Meanwhile everyone is jumping on the Ella de la Cruz jock for throwing 97 to 99. Ronald Acuna is on a different plane right now. On Pace for a 30 Homer and 70 steel season which has never happened...... A legitimate chance for a 40/80..... With 150 run scored a 330 average and 100 RBIs from the leadoff spot. A different plane

Haha, no hate taken & thanks for checking out the video. The main reason why I slowed the footage down & clipped them to the end of this video is because I used to be a pitcher before I blew out my shoulder & so I find really powerful throws to be a beautiful & picturesque art form. I just wanted to place some emphasis on the throwing mechanics, although it beats me why I repeated it in 3 different speeds... Lol, I can't remember why I chose to do 3 speeds

Probably distance from the location of the throw to the plate and amount of time it took to get there will give you its average speed start to finish and from there you can calculate exit velocity and how much it slowed down from wind resistence. Someone smarter than me could probably tell you the actual formula but that will give you a rough idea.

@@davidhackett7106 Actually you are. You are comparing apples to oranges. The main point here is that it is the hardest throw ever recorded from the outfield. You know how many people have hit a ball over 450 feet? Runner was safe only because of the depth of Acuna where he made the catch.
