As a Scottish rugby fan I'll say that Ireland from the start of the six nations had few opportunities to get a grand slam. 2001 but lost to scotland at murrayfield 2003 lost to England in Dublin, in 2004 and 2007 came close but lost to france. Gotta admire the Ireland sides back then with the talent glad you got 2009 grand slam and then in 2018. Would love us Scots to have a chance of that one day

If the Scots didn't make mistakes you would definately win one. Feel your coming to the end of a peak window atm though. I wouldnt be mad if you won

Ronan O Gara> David Humphries> Johnathan Sexton. O' Gara is the best out half Ireland has ever had though Humphries and Sexton are great in their own rights O' Gara has more points than both of them for Ireland.

Best out half Ireland have ever had because of it. Not great defensively but could read a game and the opportunities therein like few others.

@@davecom3 Yeah, defensively not the best but the ability to kick the corners and pin teams back and putting a cross field kick on a sixpence markes him out as one of the greatest footballers we've ever had.

I remember watching this as an 11 year old in the pub with my father, great memories, and today I was able to watch the Irish rugby team win the grand slam at home for the first time ever! Proud to be an Irishman today and wonderful to see how far Irish rugby has come over the years!!🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪

As a Wales fan having watched this game at home due to the fact i was 6 at the time of this game. Ronan O'Gara and the other 14 players in Green at the time of the drop goal were the best XV Ireland have ever had in the 6N's era, narrowly topping the grand slam winning XV in 2018 in my own opinion, Ronan O'Gara to me was a one in a generation player

You guys will get there. The 6 nations is full of the best teams in the Northern Hemisphere really tough for Italy every year. When ever they arent playing Ireland I hope for them.

@Forward To The Past Personally they show some character each year and play some decent attacking rugby. Also instead of a 5 nations I like the idea of a 2 tier 6 nations where some other EU countries like romania and russia and do germany play? Could play too and have promotion relegation it could help the lower tiers of rugby improve with italy flip flopping between top tier and second tier?

I have a lot of respect for the Italian team. The 6 Nations makes them look bad because the competition is so tough, but they are a world class side. And it takes character to keep turning up, I think Italy will be a contender sooner rather than later. And it'll be good for the 6 Nations.

Well errrrm it was rhe first game but it did lead to a grandslam also I'll never forget ireland v Wales 2018 Wales moving closer and closer to drop goal range then a bad pass is intercepted by Stockdale who runs half the field for a try and there's me screaming my head off

Two absolutely gargantuan mistakes by the Welsh in the 76th minute. First, they opted for the clearing kick instead of holding possession and running down the clock. Second, the kick was sent into touch on the full, thereby giving Ireland the territorial advantage. That’s all down to tiredness and fatigue from soaking up relentless Irish pressure...

ballyoulsterboy Yeah. Rog winning it with a drop goal on 77 minutes. England are the only nation that voted for us for the World Cup. I hoped England would come second.

I agree with Rian. 2018 was the best grand slam as the margin of victory was greater in the final game in a game won in style whereas 2009 was a nail biter. The fixtures in 2018 were harder playing in both England and France and the icing on the cake as Rian said was winning it on Saint Patrick's Day.
