I first saw them playing as 1% in Atlanta at a club called Funichios is an Atlanta club popular in the 1970s where a lot of emerging southern rock bands would play. Located on Peachtree in Midtown, this was a place where you could see Lynyrd Skynrd live when they would drive in from Jacksonville. That's the club where Al Kooper first saw them play. He signed them to a contract for $9000.

That was a very special band. A band like that will probably never exist again. Ronnie’s attitude and character was the driving force, but unfortunately that very force is what ended it all. He flew his band just way too close to the sun, just one time too many. It’s eerie how something so GOOD pulverized it’s members. Allen Collin’s went thru hell over and over. I feel very sad when I think about him in a wheelchair watching the 87 reunion from side stage in tears. He needed that “therapy” more than any of them, but was denied once again. God Bless them all. At least they are all together now.

What upsets me?The most is knowing as far as the music side of it goes not knowing what there more modern day music would have sounded like. I hate to fly and would rather drive no matter how far it is... I hate boats too, but I’d take a boat any day before I fly if given the opportunity.... just so sad all the way around... I listen to Skynrd very often, usually every day... I’m happy to have had the pleasure to enjoy them at the capacity they existed , for the time they did... Although the band pressed on and did well, it’s sad to think what they could’ve accomplished if they were able to remain whole this entire time....

I couldn't agree more. And I think the best thing about the old Skynyrd was that they were really good about being a band, and not just a bunch of guys who played together. They worked HARD at it, and from what I read, Ronnie was a slavedriver. All that time they put in at the hell house really paid off.

The amazing thing is that the original lineup's entire catalogue of music was recorded in only 4 years, from 1973 to 77.The band reformed in 1987 and have put out a plethora of albums since then, with only 1 song worthy of standing with the pre-crash lineup's music,in my humble opinion (That being the song Red, White, and Blue).

I’m always in awe of people like the late RVZ because he wasn’t a big guy but that was his band! Band mates were under strict instruction to play their songs exactly like they played them on the albums. If they didn’t, there’d be a fight after the show. It isn’t fun to be under the boot of someone so adamant, but all men respect a situation like that when they aren’t in it themselves. That’s Dixie, y’all…>

Yeah, Ronnie knew precisely what he wanted and how to get it. That time at the Hell House must have been, well, HELL! 😂😎🤘

@@deadrockstar49 It sure would’ve been, although from what I’ve read, they’d come up with a new riff and then Ronnie might go throw a spinner bait around in the lake behind Hell House and come back in with the new lyrics, etc. From all reports, he never jotted down lyrics. He just committed them to memory. There’s some pics online with him hanging with that girl from The Exorcist where he is sporting a shiner. Not a problem for him to go around like that because everyone must’ve known that there was a 90% chance that the other guy had it worse. Also, AC⚡️DC was going to go on tour with them until the crash, but you can find pics of Bon Scott on stage with what looks like an oval Rebel flag belt buckle but if you look close you can see that the stars are actually letters that spell out “Lynyrd Skynyrd”. I didn’t know that till a couple of years ago so I find it cool as hell because everyone knows that those two bands are my favorites and have been for a really long time. (I’m 51) AC⚡️DC is simply how RnR is meant to be banged out, and LS because it reflects my Southern heart! I’d say LS has more talent. >

I remember reading a music critic who said something to the effect of the Band having more talent than the Beatles, the BeachBoys and Elvis combined.

Great band, but the music critic was wrong there.

Well, from a Yankee point of view. Ya can't beat " I'm on the hunt" . The best of Skynard wasn't ever heard on the radio. But their fans know that. I really love their CONSERVATIVE MESSAGE. GOD BLESS YOU BOYS!
