Excellent review and walkthrough. I currently have a SmittyBilt Overlander XL Gen2 with the Annex room, and we love its size as it sleeps four up top no problem and 2-4 in the Annex below. The downside of the SmittyBilt is that the setup and breakdown take forever being a softshell tent, and by the time I'm done doing either, I'm sweating! But they are 1/3rd the price. So we've been looking for a hard shell with the Annex that also sleeps four, and this one seems to be the one. I watched another video with the Annex attached, and it's even bigger than my current Annex, which sleeps 2-3 on cots or four on the floor. Cheers!

I had the Smittybilt Gen2 XL as well. It was my first RTT. I got it with the thought that setting up a tent in a few minutes or less, would be fantastic. Unfortunately, setup and take down, took the fun out of using it. I would be exhausted after setting up or taking down the tent. Just sold it for a little bit of a loss on purchase price. I put the money towards a new iKamper Skycamper 2.0. It is an expensive tent and the annex seems grossly overpriced. This Roofnest tent looks like it's very comparable to the iKamper.

I recently purchased one of these and had a very difficult time with putting it on my rack. First, the included mounting hardware will NOT work with a Leitner rack-the included lad bolts are an inch to short for the Leitner load bars. Leitner does make their own mounting hardware as a work-around. I went to a hardware store to get longer 3 inch bolts as a temp fix. Also, the included mounting brackets would not fit in their own “T” Trac! The trac mounting screws were a 16/th of an inch proud and prevented the mounting bracket from going in the track. This required me to back the crews out )a big pain in the ass) and purchase washers to create space and secure the screws properly. My set up took several hours due to their poor quality control.

Any clue what the shipping dimensions are (for the Condor XL)? I can't find them anywhere. I only see the "open" and "closed" dimensions. I'm trying to arrange for pickup (live out of country).

We're also considering the Condor XL. We have 3 adults and a 12 yr old all no more than 5'6" tall. You mentioned it would accommodate sleeping up to 4 people. Is that where 4 would sleep where their feet are at the ladder making it easy to exit at night for a bathroom break or is that with their feet toward the rear of your truck where you'd have to climb over people to get out?

Hi, thanks for the video. My husband and I are considering buying this tent- we are just unsure of how/where to get the mounting framework installed. We have a truck and are thinking we'll have to mount it above the bed. How did you go about figuring out the rack and mounting system?
@4X4Carpool
@4X4Carpool 3 жыл бұрын
It will really depend on your vehicle and what is available. Most trucks have raisers available for mounting above the bed. My suggestion would be to get something that is really robust. The tent it’s self if almost 200 pounds plus the weight of everyone in there. What truck will you be mounting the tent to?

I would not recommend removing it by yourself. Unless you have some kind of pulley system in your garage that is attached to the ceiling that could assist with removal. I’ve seen some videos out there of people that have put something like that together and it works with one person. Just be careful and make sure it’s strong

Thank you for the review! I am curious, this tent is very similar to the iKamper Skycamp 2.0 which has the blackout panels that help w/ temp control and the sunlight. This one looks like it allows more sunlight in through the side panels from the video. Has that been an issue at all for you?

The roof rack is made by Front Runner. Since this video was made I have added Front Runner’s tent mounts which raise the tent up about 2 inches. The tent worked just fine without them, but having the tent raised up 2 inches makes it easier to open and close the tent.

At first I just used the mounting hardware that came with the tent. But recently added the tall tent mounts from Front Runner. With the new mounts I was able to slide the tent forward. It now hangs over the front of the roof rack which gives me room at the rear of the roof rack. Also gives me more space to get my fingers under the tent to access the straps and latches. I would think the quick releases would allow you to do the same, if you need to.

Thank you! When I first installed the tent there was a small gap between then the bottom of the tent and the outside edge. Good question. Since it took me a really long time to tighten the mounting hardware(not a lot of space for hands and tools) and since the tent is almost 200 pounds(took 2 people to get it up there), I would only assume it would be a really long get away. Also my truck is insured for a stated amount which includes the cost of the tent. So if someone manages to get away with it without me noticing, insurance would take care of it.
