We have had a Rook game for a few years and could never figure out the game for two - we're an older couple living in a rural location, so it has to be the 2 handed version. Your video has made it more understandable and we'll give it a go! Not sure on the scoring but hopefully we figure it out - lol - I'm thinking that there are two components to the scoring, the points for taking the trick and the point allocated for the 5's, 10's and 14's? thanks!

Growing up, we played the way you explained, but kept the rook in. I think that part is fun. However youre saying according to the early version it was not included. The rook could take any trick. And one guy said it was worth 20. Pts. Thanks for your help!

Yes, oddly enough the original rules did not include the Rook. It has become a common inclusion though. I play with the rook ☺️

Great instructions - thank you! Quick question. . . Do you create a new “nest” with each hand or keep the same one (with the numerous changes) until a player reaches the magic winning number?

Combine all of the cards at the end of the round and create a new nest for the new round. Hope this helps! ☺️

Dont get the bidding process, how do you know how many points you are going to get for thé 5s & 10s. What happens when both persons pass in the bidding process

The dealer may not pass. They automatically begin the bid with a 30 point bid. For this game, the bidding is more of a wager, how high are you will to go in order to name the trump color. Since this game uses count cards rather than tricks, you will need to play some games to be able to get the feel for how to bid. It is very similar to bidding in Rook.

So if you win the bid but dont make or exceed it, you never lose the points you bid? Just get 0? So to start the game you can never be negative in score? And you never lose points in the later rounds? Im very new to this and trying to figure it out.

You are correct. You cannot lose points, and your score does not go below zero. :^) I hope you enjoy the game!

P.S. The instructions I have with my Rook cards for two players are different from your video instructions. Does that make a difference? The notes with my deck say deal 12 cards; you say 13. Card instructions say 300 points wins the game for two players with a minimum bid of 50 points. Yours say 30 minimum points with 150 points or more. I'm confused! 🙂

Thank you for watching! I showed the original rules in my video (from the early 1900’s). You can follow the modern rules that you are referencing :) The biggest difference is the version I show in the video does not use the Rook card. Yes take that out of the deck. The *new* rules in the box uses the rook card. Hope that helps!!!

At 7:20 you say each player will earn 2 points for each trick captured. Can you explain this more. I thought points were added 5, 10 or 10 for the 14 card. Where does this 2 points for each truck come from. Won’t this get in the way of points being divisible by five?

Each trick won is worth 2 points in this 2-Player ROOK game. So if you won 10 tricks, you get an additional 20 points! The divisible by 5 logic is only used when you are Bidding!

So, why not keep the rook card in the deck?

It acts like a Joker, so it can be added if you like. However, it will also effect the total number of cards in the deck, so a card might still need to be removed in order for the cards to be dealt out evenly.
