seeing some misunderstanding so just to clear up .. woosan were not talking abt kq fellaz 😭 (sorry if i made it seem so 🥲) fellaz are good kids i promise 🥹 woosan we're talking abt **other** rookie idols who were being rude with their tone and language. our fellaz haven't even debuted yet but they've been raised with a lot of manners ~ the clip with the fellaz who said "do we look cool" was just a fun insert to show how wooyoung teases them playfully as their company sunbae ^^;; (stan the fellaz it'll be worth it ~)

It's because of the fans. Nowadays, these new kids are getting popular even in their trainee period, so they dont really consider debuting as that big a deal. If the group doesn't work, they can just leave the group, join another company/group/go solo etc etc. They dont feel the need to be respectful like their seniors did, because they dont depend on it for their work. Same with fans. Fans are too entitled these days, and act like their idols (even if they debuted 2 weeks ago) are veteran seniors and make excuses for them being desrespectful.... I saw one video where a 4Gen female mc wasnt bowing to the seniors like Btob and MonstaX and the fan comments were like "oh, she has a back ache from practicing too hard, so she cant bow" wtf?!

@@Shaytan.666in Korea, respect is the most important and they had been taught about ethics and manner from when they were younger and until now. Perhaps in some country, nodding head is already enough to show respect but in Korea it's actually quiet disrespectful. In my opinion, I prefer to keep it this way cause manners are important. It doesn't matter what you status are, manners is needed. Yet at the same time, senior also doesn't have the right to abuse their power on junior. I hope it can be mutual. That’s also toxic though. Have you been to Korea? Seniors constantly bully and abuse their hoobaes because they know they won’t retaliate or say something out of fear. People think Ateez is a group that they can treat them like a shit just because Ateez is a group that really nice, friendly, loud, crackhead and can get along with everyone really well, so i guess that's way people especially Junior being too comfortable to talk with them using informal language, i guess WooYoung do that to his hyung many times, especially SeongHwa, because he feel too comfortable to treat someone really friendly, it doesn't mean WooYoung is a bad person, it just he feel too comfortable around someone that he think that person is really nice, maybe that what the junior think about Ateez, i don't think they want to be rude or do that purposely, maybe they get too excited to met Ateez. I hope people don't take this seriously, not everyone want to be rude for no reason, it just sometimes they forget who they talk with?? if they did once, we can just ignore it if Ateez also have no problem with that, but if they do the same shit too many times and can make Ateez feel upset or hurt then we can start say something.

Wooyoung talking informally to Seonghwa isn't the same as a junior talking disrespectfully to a ATEEZ a senior group. Woo and Hwa are close almost like brothers and it shows their bond because both are that comfortable. In professional setting though, if a junior is being impolite to a senior it means they're arrogant and think they're better than other. Tbh I find the whole "respect your seniors" culture off-putting because as someone who is Asian and has seen first hand just how this culture gets misused by seniors and elders to mistreat young people, I'm just over it. I agree that you should respect your seniors and elders but not to the extreme where they become arrogant. It also puts a huge barrier between people because you can't act comfortably around anyone who's not your age. Respect should go both ways, if one person is giving all the respect and other person is only receiving it, then that isn't considered respect at all but abuse of power and position. People get away with anything using the culture and tradition card. Having said that, if juniors are truly being rude and disrespectful towards their seniors then they should be called out. Everyone should have basic manners and it has nothing to do with culture.
@lifeisyuyu
@lifeisyuyu Жыл бұрын
there's a very clear line between treating a senior with respect vs treating a friend with respect. you don't speak to a senior you met for the first time in the casual manner they did. i think we know well that ateez won't abuse their power.. in the interview they said they don't wanna make people feel intimidated, but be a cool senior. im asian too and tbh i don't take it seriously, but the point of this show was to be 'kkonddae'. these members put value on things that may seem old fashioned, but it's important to them.. it's sad how in kpop, a sideway place can get you called rude, but being mindful of what you say, how you say it and who you say it to, is important.

@@NoirN3rd idk ateez personally. ofc they have personas. they’re in an entertainment industry. theyre not gonna let down all walls. but they don't lie about who they are as people "for camera show” ateez are human and everyone will make mistakes, but why do you feel so inclined to accept any malicious assumption? what proof do **you** have to be this suspicious that they’ll abuse their positions.? here’s how we know of ateez when the cameras are off, if you even care to read : ateez have juniors whom they adore, monitoring their dance + vocals + writing. and often helping calm their anxieties of debut, bc ateez had no one to help them. those juniors look up to ateez as role models and brothers. ateez's managers make them friendship bracelets, even visit their family homes and parent's restaurants. hongjoong broke down on stage bc he felt guilty for when the staff were blamed for anything wrong. san is often named the most polite idol by external staff. yeosang is praised for the same after his years as The Show mc. whenever ateez have a comeback, the stage staff praise them for always remembering to thank them, bc the extent ateez do it is very rare. yeosang’s schoolmates have told us "pls rest assured that you're supporting a good person!" and shared so many stories of him being so pure hearted that "he will easily get swindled” jongho is always praise for how polite he is to seniors. though he can’t open up easily, he can speak for hours about music,, and finds so much comfort in how he learnt to build connections with that. san's father (who works with disabled elderly and is more famous than san in their town) is **very** strict, but his only rule to allow san to be an idol was he mustn’t chase fame and stay grounded. yunho was known as the cafeteria oppa, buying snacks for anyone who looked sad. he’d even go to mingi's school (before they were even in the same company) to eat with him since mingi's friends would leave him. hongjoong dedicated ‘thank u’ to seonghwa for always being there for him during their struggles. the lyrics include “maybe i’ve been doing alright… and the proof is you ..” wooyoung’s mum told him he could fail in school but to never lose his character. he often says "if you want to know what kind of person i am, just look at my friends..” san subtly shut down anti-feminists attacking a female athletic... hongjoong has supported causes for underprivileged children right from debut, and donates in the name of atiny. the list is endless.. kpop didn't make me delusional. ik all the realities of this industry. but i choose to believe the actions i see + the words i hear from ppl who **actually** know ateez. meanwhile, you already have a preconceived thought that everything is problematic, and seep in constant negativity. why are you even here if you hate it so much?

I appreciate Jongho for saying it’s a bit of an exaggeration because I think what we’re seeing is evidence of a culture that’s evolving and changing as a whole, not that younger idols are _truly_ rude and entitled. Keep in mind, speaking formally in Korean isn’t like speaking formally in English. It’s not just talking softer to not overwhelm the conversation or just not using slang. It’s different vocabulary, different endings, different structures. There’s informal speech that is still generally considered polite in Korean but that’s still not polite _enough_ to talk to “seniors”. Even in San’s first example, what was said was *not* an impolite sentence - it wasn’t even a neutral sentence - but it wasn’t the politeness level a senior expects from an unknown junior. Idol groups have been expressing for years that they don’t speak formally amongst each other, that speaking formally is difficult, that being spoken to formally makes them feel uncomfortable distance. It doesn’t surprise me that this sentiment is manifesting further into interactions outside of groups themselves. Especially with more foreign idols entering the space who legitimately don’t have formalities mastered - it’s going to have an impact on how everyone talks to each other when a quarter of idols only know how to speak in a polite but pretty informal way and everyone is telling them “oh it’s okay because at least you’re not being informal _and_ impolite”. And that’s not to place blame on WooSan or to say they don’t have the right to be annoyed. It can feel ROUGH when the respectability culture you had to work so hard to cooperate with begins to change just as you’ve reached the age where you’d get to be on the receiving end. I just think international fans especially need to be a bit more empathetic when hearing stories like this because I really do believe South Korea’s increasing globalization is part of the ease we’re observing young people showing towards these social rules

This is just my thoughts about this matter, since this is happening now in general, in girl groups and boy groups... maybe because majority in kpop groups now are foreign koreans or not really born and raised in Korea, they are still adapting and practicing the manners that they don't really have, they are a little bit entitled and they are not used to respect hierarchy, I observed in general both in girl groups and boy groups, kpop companies are debuting groups that have 1:3 ratio of foreign members, like 1 purely korean or born and raised in korea and 3 foreign korean that are half korean or pure koreans that are born and raised into foreign countries. There's nothing wrong in getting foreign idols cause it's the best to get them cause the target audience now is international not just koreans but I hope companies include teaching their trainees good manners and right conduct in their training season not just singing and dancing❤. Skills and manners must be always put together.

looking at all the negative comments here, I feel like it's easy to judge these kinds of interactions from the outside, but there could be some cultural aspects we're not considering as well. it's important to understand that a lot of the older 4th gen idols like SKZ and ATZ started out as trainees from 2012/13 roughly. trainees and junior groups then were basically required to speak to their seniors VERY respectfully and always use the most formal language, formal tone, etc. But with younger 4th gen group's there's a generational gap. as trainees, the strict formalities that existed years ago are slowly changing and much more lax. the junior group here didn't speak informally to ATZ as the caption says. they still used 존댓말 (jondaemal/formal speech) but just with the "-요" ending rather than "-ㅂ니다". that's not rude. it's just different to how ateez were taught as trainees. that's why the captions are referring to them as "꼰대" or boomers. cause a lot of the formalities they were taught to use as trainees aren't as strictly enforced anymore with younger groups. I'm sure most juniors don't even realize it comes off this way. They are just growing up in a different time and environment than their seniors. Yunho even called out his members saying they're kind of exaggerating lol
