I got to see him live in Milwaukee in 1992 when he was playing for Sixers. He had Manute Bol on his team so it was really like 4 Sixers vs 5 Bucks when Sixers were on offense. Barkly had such a silky smooth jumper for such a big man it was incredible. Manute Bol never played offense he only stay on defensive side of court when Sixer got the ball Manute would walk up to half court and wait for Bucks to get the ball and then get under the rim to try blocking shots.

Shaq’s main skill later in his career was being enormous, and jack-hammering his ponderous mass into the key for an easy 2. He was relatively thin here and couldn’t do that. Barkley was a great player, but he wouldn’t have been able to guard, for instance, Olajuwon that way. He would have been completely cooked.

Barkley was as competitive and relentless as Michael Jordan. He just wasn't as athletic. Imagine if he could fly to the hoop like MJ with his intensity.

I miss how they covered the NBA, great story lines, good sound bites in between, the anchors were great talking about the game and the players, the camera angles. It just seemed so perfect, good times, great teams and team play. And the most important part, the players play hard, respected each other and there wasn't any crazy insane hate towards each other, nothing like today. They weren't swinging at each other and they didn't dress like thugs or clowns, like they do today. Jordan the billionaire baller was ice cold in his suits. Today it just seems more about egos and stats, minus the Denver Nuggets.

Players today act like they're going to a 9-to-5 office job. Show up, quietly do your job and go home. Those things you mentioned are gone and the sport seems very passionless to me these days.

Same. I thought it had been fixed by then. Daryl (sp?) Dawkins used to break backboards in the 1980s, and they upgraded them. Apparently not enough.

Sixer and Sun Charles are strong as Shaq prime at 6'5 height. Chuck doesn't even took his game too seriously at that time. One of the best scoring power forward in game history.

The fact that Barkley is 6'4", weighted "only" 250 lb. or so and held his ground against a 7'1", 300 lb. freak of nature is insane. Sir Charles' strength and positional understanding were underrated.

Love shaq, but barkley was my favourite as a kid! I used to try and play like him and copy his moves. He could pretty much play any position, was so physically strong, hustled like crazy, and could anticipate where the ball was going before it got there! Such an inspiration!

Barkley can match Oneal for rebounding but because he is much shorter he has a big speed, mobility and agility advantage when Shaq tries to guard him away from the basket.
