What a great finish! I'm always saying "... but that's what decorators caulk is for" on jobs around the house too. I'm pleased you showed the costs because this sort of project is not expensive and it is the sort of thing people can have a go and achieve good results.

Great stuff as ever Keith. What I think I admire most about your videos is your brutal honesty, even when something doesn't go quite how you'd like it to. With a little creative editing you could easily hide them, but you don't, you talk candidly about what went wrong and how maybe you'd do it differently if a similar task presented itself again. It is refreshingly honest and I think it's great 😀👍

Great job and very nice finish. I did the same, building a wall to make 2 rooms from a bowling alley type room, and straight on top of the carpet as it was professionally laid and stretched tightly, which means I would have had to get it relaid if I cut it, looks great now and you’d never know.

Great finish to all your work in the bungalow. Having renovated a few houses over the years I've uncovered professional work that some of your commenters would be horrified by but that were always finished off to a high standard - 'that's exactly what fillers are designed for'. Enjoyed your work and narration.

When we moved into our current house 10 years ago, we discovered the previous owners had added a wall over the top of the existing carpet as well. We've since replaced the carpet on one side, and tiled on the other. So the only place left in the house with the original carpet is underneath that wall! We did have to cut the carpet along the wall before we could re-floor, which was a bit of a pain, but not a massive problem. The thing they didn't do in building their wall (which I think you did) is fasten it to the floor or ceiling. So when we went to nail on new skirting after replacing the floor, the wall is very springy and very hard to (hand) nail in the middle. Im sure a nail gun would get the job done, but we didn't have one at the time.

Small tip for the future, rather than using a compass to mark your scribes on the skirting, if you cut a 45 on the end it leaves you a perfect outline to cut. If it’s primed mdf it’s even better. 👍

if you want to paint mdf put normal sanding sealer on it first that stuff is very cheap i use it on all of my builds to seal up my wood projects, seal it up, then the paint wont soak into it anymore and it will last longer. mdf also molds very easy. everything you make or build needs to be sealed. it makes a huge difference.

I'm fitting skirting in a garden room at the moment and to get it right takes a long time: scarf joints need to be flush, corners scribed, and for this job, 12mm packing strips fitted between the skirting board and wall to give clearance for the wall support struts. Taken about 15 hours so far. Should be ready for painting tomorrow evening. Doing a good job takes a while, particularly if you don't have a lot of practice. YT is very misleading in this regard.

Nice work and great video, Keith. I know the job is finished now, but thinking of you cutting in the wall paint at the ceiling reminded me of the triangular brush that was part of the kit that came with a Dulux non drip power painting system. The system worked beautifully the first couple of times, but after that it failed to perform well so was junked. The triangular brush, though, proved an excellent tool, which my professional painter friend now uses exclusively after I recommended it to him. If you are going to do more room decoration, take a look at www.amazon.co.uk/Dulux-Perfect-Edges-Triangle-Brush/dp/B002NQ08RE?th=1 and the comments.

Cheers Don. Difficult to see that on the image on Amazon, but it looks like it could be similar to a set of "sash" brushes that I have somewhere? They are great for cutting in too
@donjohnson24
@donjohnson24 3 жыл бұрын
I may have got the wrong one - but this link shows the one I was trying to plug. The brush does have a sloped end, like sash brushes, but the main feature is that it has a triangular cross-section, with each side being about 1 1/2 inches, which makes for easy access to corners and joins..
