I'm amaze by how many people in comments think this is a kinda amateur or newcomers band, when Tokio Ska Paradise Orchestra as a band has existed since the 80s, they've released more than 20 albums and it is a worldwide reference and part of history in the Ska genre... But whatever, I'm happy people still get to know this!!! "Skapara" foreveeeeer!!!

The original Ska musicians in the late 50s / early 60s in Jamaica, had mostly been playing the island's Jazz combo's / orchestra's before Ska came to the fore. So the Jazz-Ska link has been there from the beginning. Ska Jazz is a completely self sustaining sub genre of Ska nowadays. Caravan (Skaravan) may be the most covered, but there's countless Jazz classics out there reworked by Ska Jazz bands / orchestras. And as to why Ska is being treated as a punchline... I think that has to do with when Ska hit the big time in the US the 90s. Unfortunately, that was more skapunk, which had the energy to keep the crowds (read : kids) going, but lacked the groove of 'proper' Ska. The brass section was unimaginative, the song progression was predictable.
