lol Ramsay didn't give a rat's ass about his mother. The story about his conception pulls on his insecurities as an illegitimate child; that this was just another mundane, apathetic act of sadism by Roose and he was an afterthought of it. I think Roose's folly was doing this, being as or more cruel as Ramsey, zapping him like his "dog", but then quickly turning around and trusting him, keeping him close as his "son", making him Warden of the North and giving him the surname Bolton (which was last all that he needed to betray him)

1:04 You can tell that Roose feels joy telling Ramsay that just by how he continued staring at him smiling despite Sansa being the one who expressed her congratulations immediately after he told them the news; He knows how it effects him and despite Ramsay being his Son, he's still as sadistic as he is and enjoys hurting others --whether it be Physically or mentally, just as much as he enjoys doing it to his own Son.

To be honest I prefer it, the DSM 5 seems to have given in to some “social beliefs” over scientific facts.

It's because he wants his family legacy to continue (similar to Tywin's goals), and he knows that Ramsay has inherited all of House Bolton's cruelty. He doesn't care if it costs him everyone else, and there's no guarantee that his son with Walda will take after him at all. As long as his family goes down in history as the cruellest and most fearsome House in Westeros, that's all he really wants.

It seems that Roose was genuinely happy when Walda announced that she is pregnant. I think he believed that he could raise truly worthy heir, not a psycho bastard that he had on the other side of the table. But I do not think that Roose could raise sane child

He's not disgusted by the practice, he's a practitioner of it himself. He just is far more reserved and practical with his torturing than Ramsay, who will flay a man alive for any reason or no reason. For example, Roose was pissed when he saw what Ramsay did to Theon because it was essentially throwing away a viral bargaining chip just for Ramsay's personal amusement.

Even though Ramsay is an awful person, I feel quite bad for him in this scene. Imagine learning that you’re born of a rape from your own father, who doesn’t seem ashamed or even just troubled in the least about it, like it’s just some ordinary, normal story. That’s just horrible :(

Roose is a parallel to Tywin in the north. We know that he had two wives before Walda, one gave him Domeric Bolton, his sole trueborn heir that was killed by Ramsay, and of the first we don't even know her name. In the books he's described like an empty vessel: he does not love, he does note hate, he does not grieve. I believe that his first wife's death made him become this ruthless killer much like Joanna's death made Tywin an empty vessel. They both care about their house prestige, the rest doesn't matter.

He's what tywin aspires to be. Roose wouldn't have gotten killed like tywin. Yes roose was murdered by his psycho son, but Tywin died BECAUSE of his stupid irrational hatred for his son. I mean, tywin conducts an entire phoney trial pertaining REGICIDE, only to get rid of Tyrion. Roose would NEVER have done that. Because roose is rational above all. And everything that tywin preaches, roose embodies. I think roose is the best psychopath on the show, he's the most realistic, and isn't a cliche evil baddie like Darth Sidious or some other shit. Joffrey is the best "evil tyrant" character.

I'm not sure of all of the politics (in the north) about conceiving bastards, but I think it would be somewhat "open/flexible" since Ned Stark had his own "bastard" and some men could have countless, so it could be hard tracking justice for all of them and especially in different houses. Not saying any of it is right or that I like it, quite the opposite.

This comment is late but in the books the leige lord didn't know. First Rights had been outlawed by that time and Ramsay's mother was beaten by her deceased husband's brother and kicked off the mill when he saw Ramsay's eyes. This annoyed Roose so he bequeathed the mill to the wife and had the miller's brother's tongue cut out so he wouldn't tell about the rape.

I mean when ramsay was conceived it was actually rickard stark who was warden of the North. Ned stark wasn't the heir and he was raised at the eyrie by Jon arryn. The heir was Brandon stark, and though certainly not as cruel as roose, tywin etc, he wasn't exactly very kind (he wanted to kill littlefinger for challenging him for cat's hand and only didn't because she asked him not to). Considering brandon was like the way he was, maybe rickard raised him that way and was a bit less of the honourable kind stark that ned and Jon exemplify.

Roose Bolton was so calm, collected and ruthless, and I really miss him on the show. He was a great tactician and commander (one of the best in Westeros) and if Robb listened to his advice I really don’t think he would have betrayed him, and Roose would have played a key part in winning the war. People who think he was “evil” just don’t understand people. He did bad things but he was a very gray character. He did commit treason against the Starks (kind of a Bolton tradition), but he was just another nobleman trying to advance his house. I loved Robb Stark so I won’t say Roose deserved better, but he was an interesting character while he lasted. RIP Lord Bolton.

I like the idea that these Northerners (the Boltons) are so harsh that they feign ultra violence and sadism to make points. They even do it just to get things done. Ramsay pretends to enjoy it in order to drive fear into his enemies, but he's really quite a normal emotional teenager… Though he does get off on it a bit as he's filled with rage against his status and father. His father, speaking of which, is however the real deal, having a true belief that his mercilessness gives him all the power and procedure he needs. Yet he hides it, rather than flaunting it like Ramsay… which is why things like the Red Wedding weren't seen coming. People actually thought that practical men like Walder and Roose gave a shit about the idea of guest-right. It was easy for them, and that gave them a powerful pride of nature. It's unique, yet the same way the Lannister's act about their power in fortune. The Bolton's power is about cruelty, and they get off on how easy it is to shock people with this brutality.

4:04 "Yes, just give me 20 good men and it's done". Ramsey sure is the greatest commander of all times in GoT, Stannis got nothing on him. :))) Look at his score so far: He took a famous castle ( Winterfell) with few men , he defeats Stannis with only 20 good men and taken a stronghold full with ironborns using just 1 man. I mean this guy is briliant at wars, Robb should have made him commander during the battle vs Tywin forces leading 2000 men. He would find a way to win it. :))))))
