@legacy378 just read the water and make your first cast really count, don't stand in one place and keep fishing the same spot. If you walk the perimeter as you fish you will have better results. You won't catch fish if you're fishing a spot without fish.

I have found the Panther Martin to work much better in the fast flowing streams I fish here in Colorado. The spinner blade just seems to work better in the currents than the Rooster Tail. Both seem to work equally well in still water such as ponds and small lakes. My go-to lure is a Panther Martin black body with gold or black blade with dots and feather dressing on the hook. Usually an 1/8 or 1/16 oz for browns, rainbows and brookies.

I've always had great success with the Rooster Tail, not so much with the Panther Martin. In my opinion, the Rooster Tail won the challenge! Enjoyed watching!

Both are great Trout spinners. My favorite Roostertails are black with silver blade and brown with copper blade in 1/16th oz. I like the black body with gold blade in the Panther Martin. Depending on the water depth... I use a few more pauses and twitches to change up the retrieve. Great contest!

Both work well, but I find color to be more important than brand (although I do have a favorite): silver blade when sunny and/or clear water; gold blade when overcast and/or turbid water; black body or solid silver/gold. Pro tip, I add a few red stripes with a Sharpie on the top side of blade for added flare (always have a red Sharpie in my vest).

I have that exact same rod and had a problem sticking those panther martins into the trout a few weeks ago. I missed so many fish just like Jordan in this video! I think that rod is tippy enough to sling the lure out there but just doesn’t have enough back bone to drive in the hook.

Impressed with the rooster tail, I need to get another one. I caught a big rainbow on the Missouri river in Montana on that same rooster tail. The PM yellow and sliver is my go to lure for trout in lakes all over Montana.

This is great. A buddy and I used to fish together back in the mid 90's. He was all about the Rooster Tail and I only used Panther Martin's. It's funny that we are in 2020 and people are still pitting them head to head.

That black and gold panther Martin was absolutely slaying the trout at Navajo lake a couple weekend ago. A day and a half we caught over 100 most caught on the black and gold.

I am a Wyoming trout fisherman the hook on a roostertail will always fail until you go to 1 8th of ounce or bigger but any size of a panther martin will hook and set always a better hooking lure.

I catch trout on spinners and spoons, but when people around me are fishing those and also Powerbait and I fish a wooly bugger and/or scud wet fly, I outproduce them with more and bigger catches. A casting bubble with a bobber stop or bead to create a slip rig will permit soft takes to get felt and set if running spin gear, but the most fun and successful is a fly rod from a kayak to get the fly running in a nonshore-ward direction. A really light leader is also very important: 2-4lb test.

I love both of these lures and have a ton of each. If I were forced to pick one....it would be Panther Martin. When the RoosterTails arent working I can always get a bite or two from a Martin.

You forgot the legend. The spinner that will literally catch any fish that swims, especially trout.--Mepps! Mepps #2 in silver or gold. Best spinner out there. You can cast them a mile, and you can retrieve them a slow speed and they won't sink. They stay in the stoke zone longer. Legendary design for sure!🤟😜🎣🎣🎣

nice video. you might to consider getting a file for your hooks. that was a game changer for me. hooks get dull quick and sharpening them every 30 casts or so really increases your bite/hook set ratio.

I was always told Panther Martin spinners are the best and I been using them since 1997. I use 2 PMF SY which is like a rooster tail style spinner. Silver blade with yellow and red rooster tail but it's a Panther Martin. I just caught a brown trout in a lake camping this weekend with it. I don't go fishing a lot but when I do I like using a spinner and I use that spinner.

Yeah, 1/6 oz mostly for me but I fish 1/4 sometimes. White with silver blade is probably my most consistent color in rivers here in NEPA. White belly with brown top is my second best catching color. 3/4 of my trout are caught on Rooster tails, if using spinning rods. 2 tone spoons are catching up lately though. Also started tying a fly 2' up from the main lure for a teaser. Catching a good handful on them lately. Just started that a month or so ago. I fish teasers for strippers in salt water early and late in the season and decided to try it for trout. Glad i did. I fish mainly rivers.

@@erikvaldur3334 I'll confirm the power of the white rooster tail w/ silver blade. It's not a scientific conclusion, really, but in my recollection, that pattern is more likely than others to trigger a bigger fish. I get browns on 2-tone spoons, not so much rainbows --- (I'm in MA). I mostly fish rivers as well---casting upstream.

Both of those work fairly well. If you really want try the BEST Trout spinner on the market then get some Joe's Flies. Hands down without question they are good. Always go with gold blades. Size depends on flow and size of stream. Best all around size is 1/8 with 1/16 A close second. Run a bb sinker 12 inches above spinner. Brown Hackle is best. Joe's Favorite and Black Wooly Worm are next. Try these and success will follow. Take it from a guy whose guided for years. For Trout. Next to live bait these outfish anything else. Yes even flies or Trout Magnets

So the better test would be trolling all 4 in a lake. More controlled conditions, open water, same lines, same depths. Switch rod positions and which lures are on which rods. Who knows, maybe a cat peed on one reel. The key is to eliminate all confounding variables.

Panther Martin's spinners are better at slower speeds, where a rooster tail will sometimes stop spinning when retrieving at slower speeds. Still hard to beat a rooster tail!

Roostertail 100%! If I'm not using one, I'm fishing the bottom with live bait. Just in the last month, I've caught numerous Largemouth, smallies, sunfish, crappie, white perch and yellow perch, all with varying colors and sizes of Roostertails. I'm yet to try them out on trout and white bass as they aren't really active in the summer heat here in Pennsylvania, but I can only imagine they'll hammer them too. Can't say much about meps or panther as i don't personally own any.... However, I do have a silver/rainbow blue fox vibrax spinner, and that thing is like fish repellant 😂. Hundreds of casts and not even a bite with it.

That pink rooster tail in 1/8th ounce is super hard to find. My orders for it keep getting cancelled online. It by far is the best color I’ve used trout fishing.

OK I have not looked at this yet but I say the lures of both should be the same color as different colors work for different things ! Also I have fished with both and as for me I,ll stay with the Rooster Tail and I started fish back in the 50,s when I was a kid I am 71 and a Rooster tail lover ! Now I,ll look at this thing !

Haha i can feel his excitement 🤣 im just learning how to fish and mine was a little rainbow trout caught me by surprise i thought it got caught on some weeds but as i reeled i got a fish! That was pretty cool havent caught anything since and ive gone two day in a row 😭 definitely gonna try these lures, powerbait sucked for me 🤣

Looks like hook upgrades are a good tip. I always like single hooks on my spinners. I feel like they give me a better landing ratio and less snags than trebles.

Panther Martins have always way out-produced for me, compared to Rooster Tails and Mepps spinners (probably 100:5). The only thing that works as well (depending on the day) are Super Dupers.

Big fan of spinners, I have had great luck with Fireperch pattern RT's. Black with a silver or gold spoon too in streams. I'm convinced trout like crushing that tail giving it an edge. Great video! You got some really great fish on cam.

Really enjoyed anything Addicted Fishing puts out. And I love the competition so much. You guys are awesome. This is what we need now with all of the lockdowns and crap. For me, I like the Mepps spinners but I have caught a lot of trout and warm water species with both the Panther Martin and Rooster Tail. Bass seems to like the Rooster Tail a lot. God bless.

I just fished Bennett and Montock Springs, Missouri. Fly Only regulations may permit a rooster tail with a “single-hook”. Treble hook roosters not permitted. Check your states trout regulations and local marked stream regulations may further restrict lure type and use.

I think they are both great spinners, but I normally favor the Panthers as well, I like the thump of the blade and the teardrop body profile. Need a rematch! Next time fish each lure with no time limit until you land a trout, quickest one wins!

NEVER use treble hooks please unless you are keeping everything you catch. You can replace the hooks on lures with a single hook and catch just as many fish without killing them when you let them go!

I have caught trout on both . I really l liked rooster tails more . Just took alot more effort to get or keep the blue spinning consistently. The panthermarten always spun even with stopping and starting without having to give a hard pull. Wish more panther matins had feathered hooks.like the mepps and roosters.

I'd have to go with the panther Martin only because you're able slow the retrieve way down and the blade keeps spinning

I’ve modified a few Panther Martin’s with feather trebles. I tie flies, so I already has all the supplies. They’re usually hardier than cheap store bought ones anyway.

just saw this and I had a better comparison. My buddy was a Rooster tail guy and me Panther Marten Fishing side by side I kicked his Butt on NJ stocked trout. 6 to 1 But he usually beats me when casting lures to surf stripers

In my opinion, the best trout lure in your box should be the Thomas Buoyant - Perch design, 1/6 oz.... I like the panther martins, rooster tails and kastmasters (brook trout design), but they all pale to the TB...

I've done this exact test over twenty times. Results: panther Martin is a six to one winner on trout here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Nice fishing, but I kind think deciding on which one is better is kind of obscure. Fish responded to both lures fairly good. I think it's just a matter of personal preference, and what color they like better on a particular day. If you'd want to get technical, the inline blade on the panther martin is going to start easier than the rooster tails swing blade. Either way, the hooks on both of those suck, and need to be replaced. If I were you, I'd replace those trebles with Gamakatsu siwash hooks. If I get hit on one of my homemade inline spinners, and it has one of those siwash hooks on, often the fish is stuck good.

I have been getting some tankers over the last few weeks of fishing yellow panther martin and white rooster tails. Most of them on rooster tail but the other night a huge one with yellow panther martin. And he got away when i got him up to shore with my lure in his mouth. I now have a net with a pole so that does not happen again.

Rooster tails are by far my favorite for almost any fish. I brought them to the Outer Banks to prove to my brother-in-law they can work anywhere. Caught a bluefish on my second cast. Had to stop when a group of black tips charged me for stealing their bluefish. Best lure EVER!

It really depends I like roster tails for lakes&creeks but panthers for larger rivers and ponds

Many thanks for videos, you are awsome. Panter Martin would be my choice, however, rooster tail style is also effiecient, Mepps spinners has almost similar spinners to roostertail,neither rooster tail or Panter Martin are availabe in Europe, Panter Martin I bought from the US as I really liked the presentation.
