My Rooster was eating breakfast with a neighborhood Sandhill Whooping Crane.What happens next was not expected, I don't know who was more surprised... me, my rooster or the crane. Right before this happened the cranes were doing their mating dance and that was what I was filming.

Birds are around150 million years old, as old as mammals, they had nothing to do with tyranosaurids who came much later. Birds came from smaller theropoda, sauropods and ornithischians had nothing to do with them, just far off cousins like we all are.

My Grandma told me they had hens with chickens walking outside in the summer when suddenly a hawk grabbed one of the chickens but in less than 1/10 of a second the hen was on the hawk picking the eye out within another 1/10 of a second and then totally trashed that hawk so they had to kill it so it didn't suffer too much, Grandma told that she also had a rooster that attacked herself and then ripped up her legs totally and send her to hospital, so I don't think I would mess too much with either a rooster or a hen because I guess they are a badass species of bird.

THIS. This is exactly why I never understood calling a cowardly human *chicken.* If there has ever been an animal not afraid of *anything,* it's the frikkin' chicken. I grew up on a farm and I've seen them back down dogs, bulls, hogs, and anything else that moves. They're the honey badgers of the bird world.

Sandhills are pretty low-key and chill. They're friendly and totally wild ones will walk up to people even when they have a baby with them. I have a feeling that the rooster would not be quite as lucky if he had been dealing with a Great Blue Heron or the all white morph of it.
