Hey Dave! After watching this video this morning... I made a trip to my local nursery and purchased a port. I made a display just like the one on the bench behind you. Thank you for the inspiration. Your "raft style port" is beautiful. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Now I need to find a large rock. 😁👍

Keep your eye open for those rocks! I also must tell you that raft PA was not my creation. I received that from a bonsai friend who left the hobby recently. It is cool though!!!!

Awesome job so far Dave! Can't wait to see how it turns out further down the road! I love the excitement you share with us!! Very inspirational! I just picked up my first tiger bark ficus recently, so I'm just trying to keep it alive at the moment. 😂

GREAT project Dave. I love long term project beginnings. They create excitement at each update. Like Nigel’s temple. Big takeaway from Nigel’s project was that the thicker the moss or muck layer, the more opportunity for roots to grow away from the rock. I think that each time you water, you could take a thumb to the muck, keeping it as thin as possible. That rock in that low mica pot with that awesome find of a tree is going to be a gem in the PSGF some day.

When doing the rafia, try making an A&P knot. In other words a double loop before tightening. That way when you pull it tight, the knot stays until you can make another loop. That is what we did back in the day. Great groves in the rock for the roots. A fun project that is going to turn out to be a nice little piece for you. Excellent!!!

What wood did you use for the box ? Was thinking in making a box out of ceader fence pickets

Usually I use cedar. Sometimes the fence planks are two thin and pull apart easier.
