I'd say it's in my top 3 these days. Spirit Island, Terraforming Mars and Root.

Your wouldn't regret. It's an amazing game. Clockwork expansion a must if playing with few players regularly

I have too say I really admire this game the world and it's characters are so charming. I can't wait to see what they potentially bring to the game in the future. It would be cool to see a bug themed faction of sorts

I completely agree. It may be difficult to make a bug faction work on a sense of scale, but hey, you have cats fighting against mice, so scale is thrown off anyway. I think bats would make an interesting faction too.

Our FLGS has copies of Root and I’m thinking about a final buy before SC goes into Covid19 induced lockdown. Trying to decide how big of a Root investment to go. Base game or everything they have? lol hey gotta support local business right? Thanks for your review!

$40 seems an absurd price tag - that's almost as much as the base game and it doesn't even have minis or a board? What the heck

Is this expansion geared towards the base root game exclusively? So no need to have any of the expansions (like riverfolk), right?

Nicky B yeah, no other expansions required. While you can play with expansion factions against these bots, none of the bots rely on expansion content.

@@TheCardboardHerald One more quick thing, and thanks a lot for the responses. How many AIs would you recommend for the 2-player (non-coop) gameplay? Sounds like Clockwork really adds amazing 2-player capabilities, which is great!

Nicky B Nicky B personally I prefer 1 bot in a 2 player game as I want to focus more on the two of us and less on managing the bot. I could see a group preferring 2 bots at the table for a more rounded game but to me 1 bot allows us to still utilize the factions in loads of combinations with minimal management.

I think it was just reprinted so a lot of retailers should have them. Amazon also carries some stock right now and Leder Games' site looks to have pre-orders for the latest expansion material.

roscopico oh my god I wish. It is a signed print, though. Anson Maddocks is my favorite MTG artist and it’s a bonus that he also grew up in Alaska (though moved away since college).

I love the theme and art of this game but nobody that got the time to play a territory taking strategy board game. These bots sound like i could atleast play it solo, letting me learn the game so then i can teach it others i feel like.

David Warren yeah, unfortunately. Though supposedly they plan on making a replacement board available cheaply as part of the next print run.

You can check out the proposed errata here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2381272/electric-eyrie-fix. The errata was necessary because there were some conditions that arose when the Eyrie would find itself in an infinite loop, essentially breaking the faction. They've updated the rules pdf and there's a sticker you can print out to cover the relevant board area until a more elegant solution (i.e. new boards) can be arranged.

Not sure I agree. The clockwork stuff was developed well after release, aside from the original Mechanical Marquise (which wasn't that great). I appreciate your perspective though. Cheers & happy gaming from Alaska!
