ROOTHY'S PATROL?? Part 1
It was Pat the Hat's idea after he saw me trolling around in my old Milo.
"Let's buy a couple of old trucks for less than $2000 and see how far they can go."
Now there was always going to be a lot of bull involved in something like this. What you see on camera versus what you don;'t see - lke the hundreds of hours I spent trying to get those stupid Range Rover carbies balanced.
Rangie? Yep, Pat's choice was a 1984 V8 Range Rover. Cheap enough, although I don't remember what he actually paid. The RR had all the features, not much of which you actually need to go bush.
Meanwhile I popped an old Nissan Patrol. Lots of rust, scrappy in places, but basically solid old Nissan with a 2.8 motor. For something like this it's not power you want, it's reliability. In fact the less power you have the less chance there is of breaking something.
Supercheap Auto and ARB were sponsoring this along with the trailer manufacturer Paul. That says a lot, I doubt you'd get those companies together in these days when everybody including SuperCheap sells off road recovery gear.
Look, I'll let you work out what's real and what wasn't. And you could start with the end to work that out..But meanwhile, I'd be interested in which of these two you'd pick - go for it!
