People seem to forget this guy's an actor. He is paid to play someone he's not. Many actors who played existing characters were not experts in that specific topic: as long as they play the part well and look convincing, it doesn't matter that much whether they know everything about the topic, as that's not something you'll see on screen anyway. Of course it's good to know that they respect the original source, and that they try to understand it... which might not be the case here, but it seems that Rory did his best to play the part anyway. And he deffo wasn't the biggest problem in the film...

I seriously don't see what everybody's problems are with this movie....I mean one of the things maybe I could think of was just how some of the characters were misconstrued compared to the actual people the actors were portraying....but I thought the film was moving....and was interesting I def enjoyed it and I'm not even a fan of Mayhem or Black Metal I'm more into what they supposedly hated Death Metal especially the band (Death) that's my fav band but regardless I thought it was a good watch!!

I feel bad for him, he’s catching flack for no reason. He’s an actor, working from a script that’s been dramatised to make it more entertaining. You can only do so much research on a topic where most “facts” are actually opinions. This is obviously not his scene at all and it isn’t fair to put the failure of the movie on his shoulders.

Can't tell how serious you are, but if you are, I'm not sure Rory is right for that role. And that's not to say anything about his acting skills, I actually thought he was quite good in this movie. I just think he's way too tall, and lanky, and his face conveys a sort of youthfulness that I don''t think Danzig ever really had. Even standing at 5'4'', Danzig always kinda looked older and grumpier, like a spooky Henry Rollins.

Eurynomos is mentioned in the Satanic Bible, where the name is misspelled as "Euronymous". In Greek mythology, Eurynomos was the netherworld daimon (lesser god-spirit) of rotting corpses dwelling in the Underworld. Eurynomos is either a minor figure whose associated literature is lost to time, or possibly an invention by the painter Polygnotos. The sole piece of evidence concerning him is the following paragraph by Pausanias: [In a painting of Hades by Polygnotos at Delphoi, Phocis]: Eurynomos, said by the Delphian guides to be one of the daimones of Hades, who eats off all the flesh of the corpses, leaving only their bones. But Homer’s Odyssey, the poem called the Minyad, and the Returns, although they tell of Hades and its horrors, know of no daimon called Eurynomos. However, I will describe what he is like and his attitude in the painting. He is of a colour between blue and black, like that of meat flies; he is showing his teeth and is seated, and under him is spread a vulture’s skin.

He is an actor. And to my right memory, how would jonas know so much? He gets credited as bathory drummer but as i remember correctly he didnt even drum on a complete album cause he left pretty soon.

Well the portrayal of Varg was horrible. They really went out of their way to portray him as this fat, stupid and patethic loser. He was portrayed as a neonazi, a pagan and a satanist in this movie and there is even a scene where he gets ridiculed by an interviewer for accepting dogmas that are incompatible. In reality he is by no means a nazi or a satanist. Sure, maybe some metalheads take black metal way too seriously, but they do indeed have the right to be pissed off when a movie misrepresents their idols so badly. It's manipulative, disrespectful and is by no means helpful to anyone. It just creates more conflict between different cultures.

Hollywood explanations of subcultures become so skewed. Black Metal = New Wave Of British Heavy Metal + Punk/Hardcore + Thrash Metal (which is also NWOBHM/Power Metal + Punk/Hardcore) + Death Metal (see Thrash Metal Brackets + Hardcore Punk) + "Occult Black Magic style" These days its come to a point that Black Metal range is very broad in extreme metal music, from thrash and crust to grind and shoegaze-influences. The most pure KVLT Black Metal has similar features to Crust Punk and Grindcore, yet characterized in a hyperspeed tempo and high octave shrieking rawness.

Dude's an actor, and a pretty good one at that. I don't get why people are acting all pissy about him reading the script and doing his best with it. He didn't need to like Black Metal, or even respect it in order to play the role of Euronymous. Who gives a shit if he doesn't listen to the same music as you? Was forcing himself to enjoy Transylvanian Hunger really going to help him play his role better? Your issues, as far a I can tell, are with Jonas Akerlund and his script. Stop whining about Rory not knowing a ton (or even a bit) about Black Metal. And you know what? Who gives a shit that Black Metal is getting the Hollywood treatment? Its a trend, it'll pass in due time, and you can go back to having the distinction of being the ONLY person in the world who listens to Black Metal.

well, this whole interview kinda shits on their culture without understanding it. Black metal is more than just scaring mothers. At lest for me it's all about expressing anguish, darkness and in a way coping with it. Sure in the 90s a lot of fucked up things happened because of this subculture, but that is because it was taken to the extreme.

I swear Alot of times in that movie he Soo reminded me of like if McCauley Caulkin had a brother that was acting well and dressed up like a Black Metal kid from the late 80's early 90's lol

Holy shit now I look dumb asf hahaha I had NO IDEA that was actually a brother to him I just could of swore in my eyes, that's who he kept reminded me of but I went into watching this movie a couple days ago on my Firestick and didn't really have much backstory on the actors or even honestly much on the actual band I think I watched a small vid about( Death) killing himself and didn't even realize this was the band that was affiliated with that dumbass Varg guy who I had remembered seeing shit about him years ago just didn't realize they were connected until later on in the movie as I was watching it but lmao had no idea

This entire movie was a big attack to Varg Vikernes to further ruin his reputation, as if they hadn’t tried to do that enough. Interestingly, Varg is not mentioned at all in this interview. How can you tell someone’s story accurately if you haven’t even taken the time to talk to them and hear their side of the story?

Well to be fair yea black metal is a lot more popular than it was in the early 90’s and stuff but it’s quantity control is that it is so unforgiving and discriminating to its Listener. It wants to push you away and make you depressed, that is it’s aim. The first black metal song I listened too was dunkelheit by burzum and I thought it was the shitest sounding music I ever heard. Then one night I was camping outside in the forest and it was a full moon and for some reason that main riff was stuck in my head all night and it all was made clear. I’ve been obsessed with that feeling of loneliness and isolation ever since.

im disappointed that after all the research he did, he thinks the way they promote themselves is what makes black metal black metal...black metal is a style of music. usual elements are: lo-fi production, fast tempos, screamed vocals (higher in pitch than your average death metal vocals), abundant in tremolo picking, and an emphasis on creating an atmosphere. black metal has nothing to do with the type of lyrics, the image or whatever. its a genre, and genres are styles of music, the way its played. has nothing to do with the culture built around it or the way its promoted or whether its satanic or not.

Seriously, it was instantly disappointing when he described black metal bands that "they burned down churches and they would take pictures of corpses" like he could've watched Until The Light Takes Us deleted scenes and probably get a CLUE. There's also Fenriz's black metal university that could've helped... like what research did this guy look into? He really got the wrong message.

Well Black metal cand vary drastically; you can look at bands like Gorgoroth and see that deep voices are also used, or Immortal and see that standard production can be used. The lyrics in most BM songs base themselves around aspects of life and nature and it's abstract relation to the rest of the universe. Black Metal is both a genre and an art form. It is the antithesis of pop, the cry for music with deeper intent that to just sound good, but to also invite the listener to explore the deeper aspects of the metaphysical implications therein. In simpler words, Black Metal is about experementing with the human mind's perception of music, and to that extent simulate a sense of greater being through it, as illustrated by Varg and many other people within the genre. Just listen to Hvis lyset tar oss, Godseed and I am the Black Wizards and you'll see that the music aims to create an otherworldly atmospere and to that extent take the listener to a journey to a land much different from our own. Many of the lyrics in BM songs even reflect this through describing nature, feelings, and even time and place to paint an experience and thereby a story to the listener. BM is an art, it is a medium to be enjoyed in more ways than one, it is ultemately a philosophical statement on people and the world we interract with.

@@deidara_8598 "In simpler words, Black Metal is about experementing with the human mind's perception of music" lmao, no it's not. the majority of black metal doesn't experiment or push the boundaries of music. some bands do, but that has nothing to do with whether it's black metal or not. that was one of the most pretentious comments ive ever read btw, congrats. i tip my fedora to you.
