People talk too much about Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and David Gilmour but speak too little of Rory. Rory Gallagher outclassed them all on his worst days. The man was the greatest guitarist to have ever lived.

Well Jimmy did say/answer to the stones magazine guy... Q: Jimmy how does it feel being the best guitarist in the world...? A: I don't know go & ask Rory Gallagher... ✌️🤘🥃
@chadlaparra5311
@chadlaparra5311 3 ай бұрын
@JimmyDiKac that exact quote has been repeated a million different times and every time it's repeated it's either Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton who said it and the 'goat' they're speaking of changes from Terry Kath to SRV to Gallagher to etc etc etc. At this point I don't believe anyone has ever said that except fanboys of whoever they're claiming is the greatest lol
@smokyFAB
@smokyFAB Ай бұрын
@@chadlaparra5311 as a little side note, the Terry Kath one actually came out of Jimi’s mouth : “One night backstage at Los Angeles’ legendary Whisky a Go Go in the late 1960s, a young Midwestern saxophone player named Walt Parazaider felt a tap on his shoulder after performing with his newly formed band, Chicago Transit Authority. “It was Jimi Hendrix,” Parazaider remembered, smiling. Hendrix, already well known at the time as a guitar wizard, had just watched the band’s set. “Walt, the horns are like one set of lungs,” Parazaider said Hendrix told him. “And your guitar player is better than me.”

I learned about him from a Ken Bruen novel and Ken has never led my astray. I've got a lot of catching up to do. This guy is nothing short of FANTASTIC. Thanks for the tip, Ken! Rory was an amazing guitar player and a very honest man. He loved the blues and the rock. I remember one time that came to Spain and as answer to a pariodist that ask him about the blues and Rory said...Ohhh... I am too old to leave for playing the blues!... It was on the summer of 1985 or 1986 in Madrid... This is the real man: simple, good, honest and a very , very incredible guitarist . Sadly at this times not much people remember him..But for me he and his bands are one of the greatest of the history of blues-rock of all the times. Thanks Rory for all the hours of good music..

He didn't even crack the top 50 in top 100 guitarists of all-time lists from various mainstream and "reputable" music related publications. While I fully get where you are coming from with your sentiments, he is as far as mainstream recognition goes, very unrewarded/unknown for the many things that he contributed to music in general, therefore, he is, by definition, very underrated.

Lucky enough to have seen Rory Gallagher live in 1972. Truly one of the best and "must see" guitar players in the late 60's early 70's. From all the bands I saw I liked Jimi Hendrix the best -- followed by in no particular order, Duane Allman, Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, Rory Gallagher, Carlos Santana, Albert King, and Leslie West of Mountain. There were many many MANY others but those guys in particular will never be forgotten.

I agree 100% Ben, and to you my friend Mr. Geißler, yes, he did play big arenas, but he HATED doing so. He always said he preferred the intimate surroundings and atmosphere of a smaller gig. It was only after he did a leg of stadium gigs in the late 70s that he made up his mind, once and for all, that this WASN'T what he aspired to do as a musician.. He just wanted to play his heart out in smaller venues, to crowds that adored him and fully appreciated his music, rather than trying to fill stadia for monetary gain... Respect from Davey

Rüdiger Geißler Wow, that's great.. You saw a lot of great gigs so.. I'd say they were an amazing experience.. Remember back in the French Navy back in the 2000’s, we’ve stopped in the island of La Reunion, I was sitting in a bar-food truck, drinking a beer, and I start chitchatting with locals fishermen that were originally from the same city than me, one of them was already pretty drunk and kept repeating “you youngsters know nothing about music. Simply because you don’t know Rory Gallagher.”. That peaked my interest and later discovered Rory, what a slap.

This is such a unique song, at least to me. The riff reminds me of hard rock, even light metal....but it's Rory Gallagher. So much soul and authenticity, and his band is incredible, too. Love it!

I'm here to tell you I saw Gerry McAvoy, Ted McKenna and Davy Knowles a few months ago in a small bar in central Florida. It was a night of celebrating Rory's music. Gerry at age 66 was a force of nature, just like in this video, and Ted age 68 was right there with him. It was the next best thing to seeing Rory, as all 3 showed their love and respect for the music, then stayed around after to greet the fans. A night I will never forget. Long live Rory Gallagher!
