Rock Goes To College (RGTC) was a BBC series that ran between 1978 and 1981 on British television. A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance (from Wikipedia).
Recorded live at Middlesex Polytechnic, UK, January 27, 1979.

His sound is underground now, I don't know if it was back then in his prime! Only the ones who are fans of him are the ones who really know his work. I admire him in a deep way for his passion and courage for choosing to be who he was.

Seen him in 1977 and 1978 in Antwerp (Arena Hall Deurne). Fantastic shows. Later on, I've met him several times in Antwerp City. He frequently visited THE MUZE, together with his best friend and musician Roland van Campenhout (he's still active as a Wonderfull gitarist). Nice guy was Rory, friendly and very open. Had several chats with him. RIP Rory.

Just to say the obvious: one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, one of the greatest guitarists of all time, in one of his greatest performances, performing a song that often brought out the best in him. The Montreux festival version is just as excellent

At 2:30 when he alternates back and forth with that nuanced riff (not sure you call it that) is so awesome, just the small change on picking creates an incredible moment (at least for me)

Now I will say hes definitely better than Clapton and Page and Beck. Definitely more tasteful. Him and Johnny Winter are so close in my opinion. So close in terms of technique and speed and explosiveness. Jimi was just too creative... I would say Rory is second just because of Jimi's creativity. But you can tell Rory was super creative too especially in this video. I would say Jimi, Angus Young, Rory, Johnny Winter, Clapton and Stevie Ray would be tied. But one guy everyone tends to forget about in this conversation is Angus Young... you wanna talk about explosive guitar players.. Angus takes the whole cake on that one.. So many greats to talk about..

I did see Rory perform in Stockholm, Sweden on three occasions, 1978 and in 1979 and also in 1984. Rory was one of the greatest live performers ever. I will never forget how great he was. Effortless with just a guitar and a small combo amp standing on a chair and a three piece band that played so well together. When he started to play he was just like a fish i water, in his right element. Didn't matter if he played on electric guitar or a mandolin, the audience was mesmerised and spellbound. Truly one of the best ever. In -79 Swedish radio managed to tape the concert. I still have a copy of that radio show. Such a great memory.

That was what it was back in our day, we go to college to see Rory and his boys and get the education to last us a life time from this MASTER, been in his classroom was the very best When you have some spare time click on to KZfaq and watch this human hurricane in action, The Master Musician Rory Gallagher and his boys going to town at full speed. There never was/is and never will be anyone like the great Rory.

Simply a heart full of soul. He never marry and never got childrens, he was allways speaking, thinking, eating living dreamiing music, he diess very young and hes life was full of sacrifices to play and give music, an angel of rock. You'll never find a better live version of this song than this one. Fucking pure genius on display. Rory was firing on all cylinders during this concert. Thank fucking god somebody had the sense to record this in such a high quality for the time. One of the best guitar solos of all time.

@@robertcooper411 Personally I'd have to disagree. This was Rory firing on all primal cylinders. He was walking the line of madman and genius during this concert. Just fucking wailing all that energy out. While the Montreux festival is incredible I think all other Gallagher performances pale in comparison to the god he was this night.

His use of changing the the tone and volume is only equaled by Jeff Beck but in a totally different way of course, he creates the wawa sound using the tone. And he makes it look so simplistic the average non guitarist would never know what he's doing
