A politician with a grasp of their brief? In the 21st century? Inconceivable! ...no wonder he's out of politics now. Just imagine where we'd be now if they'd made him leader. Instead against all sanity and national interest... We got Boris. And now it's a choice of sunak and Truss. Listen to the start of this speech about Russia and then think about truss' incompetence when talking to Russia. Terrifying.

What a tragedy Rory Stewart is no longer in Parliament. I have rarely heard such a brilliant analysis of the threats posed by Russia and what steps are required. Sadly the current leadership race highlights we are entering into a much lower standard of politics than the ability displayed by Mr Stewart in this broadcast.

Dear Rory, I have come to admire you over the years, both for your integrity and expertise, and I congratulate and wish you well in your new ministerial appointment. I only hope that your hitherto robust, principled independence of mind will not be compromised, as happens inevitably when accepting such a post. I'm guessing it was a hard decision for you. Good luck!

Excellent speech - shame on those who did not listen to this and other warnings. We should never have trusted Putin, Lavrov and their mob. We should have been rearming ourselves and helping Ukraine prepare for further invasions - including training in how to run an effective resistance.

Tragic that this video has only 360 views. I only saw it today as Rory mentioned a debate on his podcast. So he was pointing this out in 2015? How can we have the brains, the information and yet we vote in the likes of Johnson?

I couldn’t agree with you more. I started to get to ‘know’ Rory whilst listening to @therestispolitics podcast and I’m now in awe of his intelligence, foresight and ability to articulate complicated topics to listeners in a way we can relate and understand. The best prime minister we never had.

This man should have his speeches going viral. Unbelievably intelligent and worldly wise. An utter loss to the Conservative Party who quite frankly, have nobody remotely close to Rory’s intelligence and political integrity. Their loss.

I’m Labour through and through, but I respect Rory Stewart so much. He clearly cares passionately about the countries interests and is very, very competent. That should be the standard for politicians on all sides. It’s a shame it isn’t.

Rorys shirts ! ... yes I concur, I suggest Chas Trywhitt, they make good 'uns and mail order too. But I think they are the least on his mind, I admire this man greatly, head and shoulders above most of the numskulls around him. His Dad I think was 2nd in cmd MI6, wow. From Rorys lamentation at the paucity of practicing Pashto speakers ie none in this Govt or any Embassy I am actually learning a few words. Useful practically for me as I shop in mid eastern delis and grocery stores, Afghans are often met, good people, warm hearted.

Since then we have got rid of several armoured divisions which included tanks artillery engineers armoured engineers supply d logistics, this was because it was we were not going to face Russia

AntPDC In the spirit of non-discrimination against the disabled and cognitively impaired, I shall expand on my original statement as requested. Rory Stewart is is part of a long Eton / Oxbridge tradition, of sycophantic monarchist prigs, who have contributed to the policies that have often earned our country the title of 'Perfidious Albion'. The latest anti-Russian propaganda and backing of international terrorist organisations by NATO and our intelligence services, is designed to wedge Europe and Russia economically and justify continued military spending at a time of mass-austerity for the people. At best Steward is a paid shill of the military-industrial complex. At worst, he is a Manchurian candidate, competing in a shallow pool or kleptocrats and charlatans.

***** I was gonna say that your comment vs. AntPDC was pure gold. Never seen a Briton admit so honestly to Britain's role in dividing Europe and Russia - kudos for the lucidity of analysis and sharpness of language. But this one is the better comment for sure: CTRL+ C was never used with such poetic impact on KZfaq.

Why you have so many “enemies”? It’s hard to me to understand that colonial mindset mainly in these days. If the west had accepted that Russia is kind of different but can be an interesting commercial party we wouldn’t be witnessing the rapid collapse of western societies. I think that if Rory Stewart would have been in power Putin would never trespass the Ucranian border but Ucrania itself wouldn’t be the corrupt country that USA made out of it. It European leaders were thinking about their people and not their vested interests… it’s now too late. Like it or not the world has changed with no way back. Gloomy European future.
