Your paints are amazing. Initially I bought landscape set and then botanical. Enjoyed so much that I went ahead and have all of them now. Even your new granulating ones. I think 68 full pans....am I right?

Yes, I thought they were all quite interesting, but ended up with this one, because I already have lots of great single pigments, and this was just fun! Won't suit everyone, if they don't like semi-opaques though.

Hello! I find it really helpful to know exactly what I've got and see them side by side - I have my swatch folder out very frequently.

This is brilliant - so interesting, thanks! I'm definitely going to have to get that single pigment set!! I'm not sure I could do without my granulating paints from Daniel Smith and Schmincke - they are so fun! I've not used Xuan paper - I wonder if it's like the Nepalese Lokta paper? I struggled using regular watercolours on it.

@@helencryer I also have a strictly granulating palette...in fact, I just ordered another tube of PY159 Volcano yellow..as I've become obsessed with granulationg and separating mixes recently. (I haven't figured out where or how to use some of these unpredictable separating mixes in paintings..but my daughter had me to some just as bookmarks for her and her wonderful wife to give away. I can certainly see why PY159 is used in so many Schminke mixes! If you haven't already, when you get home, mix it with some of the primateks! (Amethyst! 😁) I'm not a fan of mica colors; HOWEVER, After my Chinese tutor sent me pictures of ancient paintings that he said STILL had a slight shimmer from amethyst, fuschite and other natural mineral pigments...i'm obsessed! My ONLY complaint..i finally got my bronzite a few days ago, excited about finishing a beach scene with my late father..my tube of bronzite has VERY LITTLE shimmer, if any at all. Not sure what the issue is, my friend ordered a tube yesterday and we're hoping hers is more like the ones we've seen on youtube. She ordered from a different company, hoping to get a different batch. I won't go into the whole mess I might have mentioned before when my tutor made me a handmade pigment; white coral, abalone shell and real pearl, for my beach scene...and it arrived 2 months later, dark pink, soaked with reagent from customs. 🙄. He'd gotten it certified and had it mailed from an art school in Hong Kong, as a non-toxic art pigment. Even testing it, they are supposed to take a small amount out to test it..NOT put the reagent into the vial. There were also other things he sent in the small box, that were confiscated for some strange reason..silk, a piece of jewelry...🤔 Anyways, we'll make what we have work. Its just difficult to capture the very white, glistening sand of my Dad's beloved Florida beaches he was born on and spent most of his 96 years on...in watercolor. My daughter did a mixed media painting and actually used sand from the dunes. I'm not as talented. 😂 for the shadows, amethyst, watered down, in spots mixed with a touch of bronzite was perfect...but the beaches...we'll figure it out. I'm going to go download IG so I can see your pictures!! I absolutely despise this Fire tablet..but until they replace my iPad next week, I'm stuck with it. Being visually impaired, my large iPad Pro has been my lifeline. My dear friend and, now retired, former colleague and personal physician, jokes it will be have to be surgically removed upon my passing...BEFORE my body is donated to Johns Hopkins. 😂. (I have a rare genetic disorder..i certainly won't need this body anymore, so..🤷🏼‍♀️ My son had also planned on it, but hadnt filled out all the paperwork. We're hoping they can specifically research our unique kidney..which is what caused his stroke at such a young age) Anyways, ENJOY & Be careful of that altitude sickness! CJ, even his Nepalese friends, who had spent too many years at lower altitudes...they got VERY weak & tired, and yes, because our joints are also "different" and he had arthritis already..that was the first time he had pain. He had to have his knees drained when they returned to Chengdu. They DID do more hiking than he probably should have..but, he wasn't even close to slowing down at his age then (29). They went cave-diving in the hot springs in Tengchong the next day. Which reminds me..a friend just visited those springs for a documentary he's doing and asked me to research the ancient volcanic fields for him... (Fernando's English channel is Are We There Yet, he has a few videos of it. He's currently in Xinjiang, headed to Tibet in May)

@@helencryer OH, and Lotka paper..oil pastels..smeared with a pencil eraser. 😂. We spent 2 years in Rishikesh in northern India 2002-4. I was learning ways to integrate Ayurveda with Western medicine. On the side, while learning Sanskrit, I began joining some local artists who made Yantras, from directions in ancient scriptures, using handmade oil pastels..but my clumsiness, I needed to improvise because I couldn't do the small details with my fingers..i found these 2 eraser pencils in my desk, with erasers instead of lead inside. I used them for almost10years, continuing to make Yantras on both Lotka paper and a thicker, cotton/silk handmade paper from india. About 10yrs ago now, when my son got me started on calligraphy and traditional painting, I tried my Indian paper. I can understand why a western artist would have issues...it normally has no sizing, is extremely absorbent and very similar to raw xuan paper. I think the hardest thing to master in Eastern painting is fluid control..i STILL have issues. There IS a bit of a fix. Coating one or both sides with an alum solution. I can send you a link to an article my primary tutor who wrote about treating xuan with alum...you can use it on lotka too. Fiona is an extremely talented Chinese artist in Belgium. She teaches, but is currently dealing with a major health crisis. 🥰. But her blog at inkdifferentstudios is a treasure of information (she's also on IG and cant understand my apathy around western social media. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️). Fiona is probably the only Eastern artist who somehow manages to paint extremely detailed Gongbi style paintings..on raw, untreated xuan. I'll never be able to figure out HOW she does it. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 Excuse my typos..i cant type on this tiny keyboard... Tapai Lai Nepal ma Svāgata Cha!

Yep, I wouldn't recommend this as a first set, just an addition if you like the colours. In a more recent video I take a look at their monopigment, transparent paints, which are pretty impressive.
