Rose's Titanic Coat is almost done!

And I even solved my embroidery problem! This week, I'm finishing up the digitizing and stitch-out for the collar embroidery, digitizing and stitching the cuff embroidery, creating a custom decorative machine stitch, and sewing together the collar, coat, and lining. It's so close!
And the embroidery pattern is now available for sale! ladyrebeccafashions.etsy.com/...
This embroidery pattern requires an 8x10" hoop, and includes 4 files -- 3 for the collar and one for the cuffs. The instant download etsy listing is for .PES files - please send me a message on instagram or etsy if you would like other formats for other brands of machines -- I am happy to create those for you. I am also working on a pdf of the overall pattern template that you can utilize if you want to hand-embroider the entire thing. Please dm me if you are interested in that as well.

Maybe this is blasphemous, but the way I would deal with the outline problem is literally take a black sharpie and touch it up, filling in the tiny bits of pink showing through. It'll never be noticed on a trotting horse!

I would probably just go over it by hand. Sharpie can ask weird with fabric and bleed making it even worse.

I came here to say exactly this, except I was going to suggest a fabric marker. For such tiny areas it should do a great job.

I did not realize until now how much I love the princess seaming (?) on the front. It all looks very elegant. You made that embroidery work. It still makes my brain hurt just thinking about it.

Gotta say this entire project is taking me back to when I work at an embroidery shop. The bobbin tension, making sure there was enough bobbin/thread so it didn’t run out. The test runs with a new design. Really impressed by your progress.

I don't have an embroidery machine, don't want one because like many other big ticket items, I won't really use it but I do have a plethora of embroidery thread which my sister gave me to add to my collection. I LOVE doing any kind of beadwork, especially NA beading and wedding type with pearls, beads, & crystals. I think if I could find a side job doing just that, I might use up all my pearls. lol I'm loving your coat so much!

fyi if you have white beads in the future yo can technically dye them with 'poly' dyes if you feel the need for anyone who needs the info, most will take it in some way but definitely test with your materials first

Honestly, the testing is really all down to the digitizing, not the embroidery itself. When you use an existing pattern, it's quite simple!

I think your embroidery is looking good once you where able to remove the outline. I think a possible solution to pink fuzz coming up between the design elements would be the clear top layer that is used when embroidering on towels. Hope this helps in the future.

Love the progress! Well done you for solving the outline problem. This coat is absolutely lovely. I wish I had any use for a coat at all, but here in Texas, it’s rarely necessary. It's been some years since I've done machine embroidery (I have Embird 2010 on my computer) but I'm wondering why you didn't use black bobbin thread?

I actually was going to, but the only black bobbin thread my Joann's had was way thicker than my other bobbin thread, and I didn't want to throw off the tension I had been working with.

Gezz, I never realized just how annoying the embroidery programs are. I've thought about looking into a small one until I found out about fabric paint and stamps. It looks like they haven't updated the UI since mid 2000s as well, so it's probably not very intuitive. It does look great though even with all the issues ^^

I have a question. Why did you cut out the collar before doing the embroidery? I would have done the embroidery on the fabric first and then cut it out--then all the edges would have been held taught by the hoop.

Because this wool is so thick, I knew I didn't want to clamp it in the hoop anyway.

I would do it by hand as well since hand embroidery is portable, and this is fairly simple (comparatively). It can’t take longer than all of the computer work has.

@@alsojane4158 true but some folx can’t do hand work for more than five minutes at a time because hands. So for some hand embroidery is great and for some machine embroidery is great. Both are perfectly valid.

@@nixhixx it has been my experience that it always takes longer the first time one does it. Especially when creating a pattern for the first time. After that, it becomes easier and faster to do. Frex the first go round sewing a garment by hand it might take days but once one has done it for years that time can drop to hours.
