@@rodrigonicolaudelroure8359 Thats a bit like saying a traditional engine must be very expensive to run as you can fill it with diesel in 5 minutes! In the UK, electricity is much cheaper than petrol and diesel...diesel here is currently £6.80/gallon (converted into US Gallons). No fuel duty or tax on electricity! As the US is coal powered, I expect your electricity is cheaper anyway.

@Tim Burm1 running at the busiest of stations in the German capital the diesel backup kicked in only 10 times in 13 months as the battery was at only 20%. It never got down to 0% and there wasn't a single call the electric Rescue Engine couldn't respond to due to the lack of battery - unlike some diesel powered Rescue Engines, which in fact had to hit the gas station first and thus weren't available for an upcoming call for some minutes. Obviously that electric Rescue Engine can also respond to calls even if it's battery isn't at 100% yet ...

I am a firefighter in Germany. In my opinion, pure electric drive is only worthwhile in the fire service if it is independent of batteries. Because you only have to take a look at all the electrical consumers of such a vehicle: the pump has to be activated, radios have to work and much more. So if you want to bring the electric drive to the fire brigade, then in my opinion that's only possible with the fuel cell.

@@EnjoyFirefighting - I noticed the lighting has gotten better in many European countries. I've seen the videos and photos of emergency vehicles in the past with those small single or dual dome light with only 1 mirrored rotator. Now I see full halogen or LED lightbars on many vehicles for better warning. Here in America, in addition to the wail and yelp, most also come with Hi-Lo but emergency service workers rarely use that.
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 2 жыл бұрын
@@joed9491 things have changed quite a bit in many countries across Europe; A few of them were quite good in the game a decade or two ago, while others just became good in the past few years; However, on modern day emergency vehicles the annoying trend of additional emergency lights, which are more of a design gimmick than having actual visual warning purpose, became a thing, too. Here the siren boxes technicalls have wail and yelp as well, which can be changed by a switch somewhere on the box itself (not by pressing a button in the cab), but it's illegal to run them here; It's just that some manufacturers build one box with the siren tones fitting requirements in various countries and then deliver it according to the respective country code and regulations; Thus e.g. the German brand Hänsch offers hi-lo sirens for emergency vehicles in Germany, but the very same siren box also plays wail / yelp for emergency vehicles in the UK or Norway. Halogen lights and strobe lights are a thing of the past in most places across Europe; It's outdated tech, while LED lights are currently the state of the art emergency lights tech. Dome lights are partially still a thing, but only the LED version on modern apparatus

Euro-style designs were always going to eventually win in these bigger departments. They did here in Australia, they will in the States. They are objectively better for the most part. @@elmerfudd7674 apparatus designs evolve over the years, otherwise both American and European apparatus of today would still look and work the very same like 50 years ago. But there will be new technologies, safety features, new tactical approaches, better pumps with high flow rate and higher pressure, taller ladders, new standards for the engines etc. And of course some manufacuters will try, test, fail and try again with different approaches and solutions. Like UHPS low GPM extinguishing solutions, commercial and custom truck chassis, easier access to equipment, ladders and hose connections, front / mid / rear mounted pumps, tiny to enormous apparatus ... Electric drive is another thing which IS already there, but it seems like (once again) only emergency services are behind, while it has caught on at private vehicles, delivery vans, trucks, trains, city buses, even ships. Only emergency services now slowly start to approach electric vehicles as if it would be sth completly unknown and new. At least some departments run all electric emergency vehicles for a few years already ... let it be a Mini Pumper in Austria, a Tunnel Evacuation Unit in Norway or an Ambulance in Germany.

Prototypes are more expensive to build but I doubt Rosenbauer will attempt to pass on all the costs to LAFD. Once in production I imagine the price will be competitive. Since the vast majority of LA's call are for medical & traffic emergencies, this type of vehicle seems quite ideal. Skepticism often indicates narrow thinking. Let's keep an open mindset & see how this engine performs.

Electric Fire Truck ? WHY ????? A fire truck must be available 100% of the day. How many hours a day is this truck down for charging on a day of constant runs ? Let me see if I get this correct .......When this truck is not being recharged it takes a run to a structure fire fully involved.....BUT.....because this truck is zero emit ions the "Fire-Grounds" AIR-QUALITY is NOW eminently more environmentally clean.......EXCEPT .......for that "Pesky" four alarm fire blurting toxic smoke for miles. Oh....and since this truck may be on scene for a day exhaust from the DIESEL generator(s) to recharge this truck a few times a day. Though it is a "Pretty" truck and when the Left's Flower Children decorate it with flowers and drawings of birds etc. it will be glorious UNTIL a chauffeur uses the four-wheel steering to come off a "Highway ramp" to fast and lay's the RIG on its SIDE. Anybody surprised the truck is in California, the land of the "Brain Dead". Oh, can anyone ex-plane to us in the Eastern U.S. WHY your Demon-Rat Shyster Slick Governor CUT the California Wild Fire Budget . I guess the Electric Truck is going to put out all of those Forest Fires by itself.

it has less downtime during the day than a diesel powered fire truck has, as it doesn't need to go to the gas station It was tested at some of the busiest stations in the German capital and was able to run every single emergency call it was dispatched to. It's completly charged within 30 minutes (from 0 to 100%), however its built in diesel backup generator acts as range extender and kicks in once the battery is below 20%. Runnin in Berlin it used only 2.11 gallons of diesel within the first 4 months of use. "exhaust from the DIESEL generator(s) to recharge this truck a few times a day" well within the time span of 13 months the diesel backup kicked in only 10 times, that's less than once per month. At the same time, the diesel powered trucks run on diesel every single call, even if it's just a false alarm, medical call, technical support or rescue call. "UNTIL a chauffeur uses the four-wheel steering to come off a "Highway ramp" to fast and lay's the RIG on its SIDE." all-wheel steering works only to a certain (rather low) speed, beyond that limit only the normal front wheel steering is available

I mean if it gets the job done. But this whole everyone needs an electric vehicle and environment is just dog shit. Electric vehicles arnt better for the environment it just adds more pollution. First off to get the resources required for the chips and shit alone require mass drilling(fract) into the earth which means alot of natural gas and other things is going to release into the air onto of the machinery required for it and the deforestation for that area of drilling not to mention what's left over will contaminate the ground. Now you have the battery which if it catches on fire it's not getting extinguished and will coast 200k for a new one. Thirdly tye electricity needed to run the vehicle where do you think we get electricity and how much of it is used. All in an effort for the environment by destroying the environment ah yes justice at its finest for the delusional tree huggers.
