My wife asked me to do some cleaning on our Dyson vac. I bought this about 2 years ago and my wife mentioned it was not working as well as it had. She asked me to take care of the filters and any cleaning so I took it as a chance to see if the marketing wank was on par with the engineering. It's not too far apart in my opinion. Sure there is a lot of fancy design elements but when you get inside, it's built well.
Thanks for watching!

I had a very grimy roller frame that I hadn't been able to clean because I couldn't figure out how to get underneath the roller. I want to thank you for this video and just providing a great tutorial. I'm off to go give my vacuum a new overhaul. Thank you Frank! My new go to channel.

Those little wheels on the power unit beater bar bottom pop out and are usually full of hair, 2 on the clear plastic and one on the motor. They should be cleaned to allow free movement. Also very important to clean/soak the removable plate (aka sole plate) as the bellow gasket on it can be stuck up with gunk, and not allow movement up/down to seal to the floors. This needs to be able to move up/down freely for different flooring or it won't seal and will not have good suction. These sole plates do wear over time, mostly the bellow collapses, and loses it's spring and won't allow a seal and may need replacing. So if you followed the entire process and still have suction issues when using it for floorings, but the vacuum still has great suction, this may be the cause. Great teardown video by the way.

I found my vacuum in a house I’m moving into. It works, just incredibly dirty! I did the exact same things with mine and came to the same conclusions about cleaning the roller head assembly with water. I wanted to because it needs it badly. But just not worth the time and possibly damaging or not being able to get the gears back correctly. Made me feel better after watching your video. Thanks!!

Very, very good. I liked watching you take it almost completely apart. I am kinda like that also. I like to see how things work. However; I was a little disappointed that you didn't take the hose off and clean through it. I also learned from a different video that Dyson recommends placing the clip on before pacing the beater bar to the ball. Thank you for your video. I learned some things.

He didn't clean squat . Cleaning would be akin to a human bathing or showering . What he did was dry wipe. Gross , his excuse iys just gonna get dirty again , well then why bother brushing your teeth ? They're just gonna get dirty again , or washing you car etc etc good video , good camera, etc good sound, clear pronunciation. As a general rule I use the attachments for the kind of dirt his power head has , my power head is only for carpets and reasonably clean floors any actual dirt piles either broom or wand

Check the brush head wire looms and slider assembly where it goes from the contacts to the motor. I've seen those wires chafe where they go into the wire channel and former service or wear and tear over time of constant swiveling can cause shorts and exposed wiring. Also the contact assembly over time gets loose as well causing intermittent cut out of the powerhead assembly. I just strip it down and leave the motor carriage intact with the motor. I take the wires off the motor terminals and take the wiring out of the channels in the motor housing right to the slider mechanism and the U shaped slider clip and separate that from the motor and I inspect the wiring for stretching pinches and stripped insulation due to chafing. The rest of the components minus the motor housing and the rest of the electrical components I wash and soak in a mild dishwasher detergent and let it soak. The motor platform I wipe down with them disposable shop rags. Lots of times I've noticed a bit of corrosion on the motor terminals, this means that someone vacuumed some wet materials. With these Dyson vacuums even vacuuming light damp things is no good. I've been zapped a few times from others vacuums because they have vacuumed wet materials. Dysons never were made for wet environments. I don't think Dyson even makes shop vacs.

L really nice job of explaining how to clean up the roller brush area though I do have one bit of advice… It would be much easier to see and follow along if you would’ve put the roller brush unit on a solid just background surface instead of a newspaper with lots of small print. It makes the entire image look over the complicated and messy. Thanks!

Thank you! I don't disagree but sadly my my kitchen is not setup as a studio. I was just trying to keep the majority of the dirt off our counter with the paper. Thanks for watching!

Watched your entire video, very amusing especialy you spinning the sides super fast , you tie your vacume to a indy car ? It'll never rotate that fast as a vacuume and the keyed per side , check the part number its written on the "hubs" both exactly the same part at least on the one I have. You cracked me up when you popped off the blue built in tool . That filter of yours is cleaner than ones I've seen (on other peoples vacs) you'll know when the filter is gone too dirty , it makes a noise like car brakes

Thanks for the video! My beater bar is having trouble spinning. I've removed the bar, but I can't seem to get the pieces on either side of the belt off to remove the debris there. What type of screw driver did you use to remove those pieces? It doesn't seem to be the same type of screw as the others.

I think it was a T10 Torx. Definitely a Torx bit, but I am forgetting the specific size.

Id make sure the exhaust vents are clean too. I am not sure what the specs for suction are. If it is truly clean, I would think it would be working properly but I dont know if that helps you or not.
