how to kill asteria starfish cheap and fun. white starfish on aquarium glass. harlequin shrimp are great at removing asterina starfish but when the starfish are gone you must remove the harlequin or it will die of starvation. You must either give the harlequin shrimp away or continue feeding it starfish. If you have starfish in your tank that you want to keep, they must be removed since the harlequin shrimp will eat them. This includes sand sifting starfish. I have decided on a much easier method. It's kind of fun. I almost bought a laser to zap the starfish but lasers can be dangerous. saltwater aquarium care that's fun and honest.

Thanks Steve. I am having a similar problem with the asterina starfish and i was also unsure of whether or not to get the harlequin shimp. I have a turkey baster which i bought to feel my fishes and now after watching your video, i am going to use it to remove the Asterina starfish. Thank you very very much

welcome! it works really well. i highly recommend the harlequin shrimp. the only issue is you need to keep feeding them when all the white stars are gone or the harley will die. mine disappeared and i was feeding him. never found him again. i loved that guy.

I had hundreds of those things in my aquarium. I finally got a harlequin shrimp and it devastated the population in a few weeks. There are still a few in the overflows and sump, and they are keeping the shrimp fed when they venture into the main display. Those starfish are no longer a problem as I see very few of them anymore. I even throw any I find from my other tanks in to help boost the population. Lol

They are however a good pet for little kids who want a beginner saltwater animal. You can keep them in a 1.5 gallon reef tank full of live rock and macroalgae and a filter. Just keep maybe a blue-leg hermit or two. They will love it.

hey great to see you i also go to beyond the reef great crew they have there chris and derek help me often. my question is this, i have a 210 with tons of the stars in it. do you think because the tank is so large the crab will survive or do you think one crab can clear out a entire 210 starfish population and starve to death
@ROTTERtube
@ROTTERtube 7 жыл бұрын
hey Steven what's up? yes the shrimp will handle it and starve to death when done. you would need to feed it more stars. that is the tough part. not sure how long they will eat them all from your tank but, probably a few months.

I had these little buggers in my tank once. I used a turkey bastor to suck them up. Works great, but takes dedication. Have to do it every day - sometimes two or three times a day. If you see them - suck them out. Sometimes they get on the rocks or in a place that you can't reach. Just wait until they move to a place you can reach with the turkey bastor. It took about 3 months to get rid of them. 30g tall reef.

If you don't keep zoanthids and don't mind them eating the coraline algae then are they okay? Is there a type of fish that will eat them?
@ROTTERtube
@ROTTERtube 7 жыл бұрын
you can but they will get out of control since they multiply fast. if you don't mind seeing them then it's fine. some people have said wrasses eat them, but it isn't proven. the wrasse will also go after a lot of your fish.
