Ah yes art teachers, they can either be the best or the worst teachers ever. Currently in my high school, we have 4 art teachers and all of them are walking artist stereotypes. One teacher was a hippy who believed in world peace and told kids to draw whatever they want. Second teacher was more focused on fine arts and realism and not too strict but definitely strict when it comes to drawing realism. Third didnt know shit about art and basically just taught us science and lastly was my favorite, they were so good at teaching and yeah maybe a bit peotic in their analogies but oh heck was it fun to be in their class, they let kids draw what they want but made sure they use techniques in our art.

I loved when we looked at a crushed car and he was like "ah yes this is about heart break and the Cuban missile crisis" somehow or some bs he would make up

I've only have had 1 bad art teacher (So far) it was my middle school teacher If you didn't tell her drama if you didn't tell her who your crush was.. she would HATE you. And it sucked. Hardly anyone passed her class because of how she was It sucked a lot. Luckily my school fired her I feel bad for the new kids that have to deal with her though...

Thank you so much for talking about this kind of stuff! Teachers who constantly single out and play flavourites with students need to fucking sit down. I had a Mr T type teacher but he was an english teacher who would shame me and single me out in front of class ( i have social anxiety). I remember we were watching the 2009 A Christmas Carol movie and there was a jumpscare which i jumped at but i didnt mind too much. He then asked me in front of the class if it was too scary for me. .-. he wasnt a good teacher

Something similar happened to me actually for two years. Mrs. Ewell was the only art teacher in the building. She loved my art, she was so critical to others but praised my art to an uncomfortable degree at times. By the second year (and my last year at the school) she started saying things allowed to the other students when talking about stuff regarding me. It was so uncomfortable. My fellow students started comparing my art work to theirs like "I'm not as talented as you." It made me so uncomfortable. I love everybody's art work (mostly depending on the artist themselves as well) regardless, it was so uncomfortable and I didn't know what to do. One time I got checked out and she straight up said "Oh I don't have to worry about you, you'll be fine." Made me go like "A haha okay-" It was an odd experience to say the least. Though I did make her at a loss for words with one of my last pieces I submitted to her (I still have it too). It was for my county Fair cover contest, my art piece was a cross media thing that I enjoy doing. That being pen and Pencil mixed together, when done right it's beautiful. But yeah no she was a lot, I was also apparently her favorite student told me that herself. I have been drawing most of my life (Started at about age two) but I'm not a professional I do this for fun. I have learned nothing from any art classes I've taken so far too by the way.

My teacher: Mrs. D is my only art teacher I’ve had. She’s a good teacher and that class was fun! We were also were given clay and we made something out of it. I get why you were embarrassed about him showing your art in front of the class. Very good video! (And art)

I remember one time, in a completely different class, he gave me a refocus for using my ”head” to squish his hand from a distance. I put head in quotations because, in addition to it not being his class, I was actually squishing his hand.

I had a college teacher that was not the best for me. I'll cut it short but one time she forced me to use paper that was horrible for the art materials that I brought in, so I feel your pain there! Another time she forced me to wash the plastic container with the paint in it even though I was running late for next class, she looked in my direction the whole time so I couldn't just bin the container so I rushed it and the paint got on my shirt and jacket. There are more things than those examples that were frustrating for me regarding my experiences with her. Most of the people I have talked to who are similar to me (neurodivergent) who have taken her class also had bad experiences. Who knows, I may make a KZfaq video about her one day.

did we have the same childhood?! lolol i related to this video a lot, even down to being the quiet "edgy" neurodivergent kid who got all A's and was singled out for liking art haha. i have NEVER had a good experience in an art class either. my highschool art teacher was the WORST, but he was the only teacher we had and i wanted art credits so i unfortunately took a lot of his classes. for the first few years he was manageable, but he was very harsh with critiques and grading me opposed to the other students. FYI, it didn't make me a better artist and my grades got worse with every assignment. in junior year, we had a previously homeschooled girl join the class - she was super talented, so the teacher thought it was a good idea to try to pair us up for projects constantly. i had to fight with him SO HARD to stop pairing us up... and he wouldn't let it go until i revealed she was bullying me. this girl took it upon herself to find my socials, stalk them, and constantly sent disgusting and degrading messages to me and i literally didn't know her outside of that class. to this day i have no idea why she did it (jealousy?) but she was VERY chronically online and it was very obvious with some of the stuff she said to me. i'm not innocent either, but i only clapped back in self defense. it even turns out she dated one of my friends & abused him, and she's now known for bullying ND kids in general. it's a whole yikes situation but this art teacher did NOT care, even when i brought all of this to his attention. she's now his new favorite student.

In my middle school we have 2 art teacher's. The 5th grade art teacher is so nice and cheerful and everyone loves her! The second is super kind but a little more stern. Same for the computer teachers but the opposite

My art teacher hates me because I struggle to get things done in time, I have triple science (3 GCSEs in science in higher tier, which is difficult, mandarin, psychology, computing, and core English and higher maths, with an extra further maths course so I have a lot on my plate) and she doesn't seem to care that I have a life outside of her class. She is the reason I have chosen to never do art or languages for sixth form. Anyway, she wanted us to all come up with a meaningful concept for our end of year ten piece (equivalent to freshman year) and I decided to do a castle as my theme was architecture. She didn't like my idea, but I stood my ground on my piece. By this point I think she realised that it would take quite a lot to break me, and that my parents were on my side. I have suspected ASD, so there wasn't much she could pressure me, in case I had a breakdown in class, and she could get in quite a bit of trouble for it. I suggested I could use mixed media, using charcoal for the castle, because it looks good. She told me it was an awful idea, so I went with it. Charcoal is one if the worst sensory experiences known to man, but I put up with ten hours of that just to spite her. I'm not the only person she hates, either. She hates my whole class, and of course we don't like her back. She doesn't teach, all we've learnt this year and a half is how to use a lightbox to trace photos of things, and then she gets mad that no-one knows what to do and that we're all out of motivation. I just happen to be super emotional and am struggling in her class. The funniest part is that I am a 6-9 student in all of my other classes (that's like a high B to A** equivalent in GCSES, 9 is the top grade) so this is the only class I'm not putting my full effort into, as I'm only getting a 5 average, which is a strong pass. Only her two favourite students got above a 5 in that exam though. Sorry for the long rant, this is probably all going to sound stupid when I reread it later.

If I told her I hadn't gotten to something yet, she went to get my aunt who also worked at to school and lied to her saying that I said I wasn't going to do my work. I never said such things. She wouldn't let me draw anime style or cartoon style because it's "not art, just doodling" and I was never taken seriously when I didn't feel well. I even threw up and got yelled at for not going to the restroom what I had literally said ten minutes earlier, "I feel sick, may I please go to the restroom?" "No. You're fine. Sit down." I was just...never good enough. And yes, I had one of THOSE schools that barred the bathrooms and where teachers told students they couldn't use the resteroom until lunch which we barely had enough time for everyone to get their plate, let alone eat. Ffs my school was f'd.

I'm an anime dude that did have the typical mixed experiences with my art teacher... But really as life went on I think I was honestly more ment for martail arts than anything and I kind of squandered that to... I had multiple on top of multiple dream things I wanted to do growing up and it just honestly f'd me over because I couldn't pick one. .wanted to be comic artist .other part of me wanted to be a an olympic martail artist .other part of me wanted to do sword community stuff like skaligrim and shadiversity ---- Sigh... I atleast have my black belt for what its worth -_- Did your parents attempt to help you? No! They were to focused on the 6 ft blonde older brother with his sports career who was basically thier star money child!... 😐😐😓 Sorry for my side tangent.

I literally almost stopped watching because hearing about this guy was making me SO MAD. I also feel really bad that you got a terrible first impression of art classes, because art teachers should want you to improve and be encouraging!
