Here is a trick I use when replacing screws, this is from my 30+ years as a two-way radio technician. Insert the screw and depending upon the location with or without a screw driver rotate the screw 'counter-clockwise' until you either feel or hear a light click or pop sound. This click or pop indicates that the threads of the screw have dropped down inline with the threads of the anchor at this time you can now turn the screw 'clockwise' without fear of cross threading or stripping the threads. I hope you and others find this useful.

Hey Mc Fix It Excellent video! Another contributing factor to rough idle is at 19:40. Notice the vacuum elbow hose that attaches to the port on the throttle assy. as it has a crack in it thus an 'air leak' that will either cause rough idle or 'idle speed' not reducing properly at this time would be an excellent time to replace that item. Keep up the good work.

Never use a metal object to hold open the butterfly damage can accrue use the plastics end of screwdriver or your hand and never reuse any gasket you are asking for trouble and inexpensive to replace! Use a child's toothbrush to clean instead of qtip does a much better job. Clean inside of intake if it is dirty as well.

Thank you very much for this video!! Your intake valve wasn’t near as dirty as mine was. I have a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country and I don’t think its ever been cleaned. My gauges were going crazy, every light on the dash was on, it was rough idling, and it got to the point it didn’t want to start. All the ground wires were checked and cleaned for corrosion and tightened down. I changed the alternator because It tested bad. I cleaned the battery posts and put battery post protectant on them. I changed the air filter too. The problems remained. I tried cleaning the IPM Fuse/Relay box because the connectors had corrosion on them. When I flipped the box over, 3 connector pins fell out. I had to order a new one from the Chrysler dealer. It was 20 days out. I changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I don’t think they put never seize on the threads of the spark plugs or lubricant on the boot covers. I put them on the new ones. After I get the air intake cleaned, I am doing an oil change and then it will be done. New subscriber here!! 🥰❤️

You need to use Dielectric grease on the Plug Wires. Coil Pack and Spark Plugs as well...I do all my connectors with it..

Excellent video. I have a question maybe you can help me with. I have a 1996 Dodge grand Caravan. The throttle body has been cleaned and the idle air control valve has been replaced. The check engine light still comes on and the code that it displays says to check the idle air control system. Could other sensors be bad such as the sensor in the air supply hose or the throttle body sensor? Thanks for any insight that anyone can give me. The engine idles fine with easy starting and smooth acceleration. Unfortunately I'm in California and have to get a smog check for my registration. It will fail if the engine light continues to come on.

What code are you pulling? The sensor could be bad on that old of a vehicle. Do you have any junkyards nearby, that's normally what I do for a vehicle that old, because sometimes parts are difficult to come by. And they are much cheaper than aftermarket or mopar parts.

I don't. They are pretty easy to remove and install a new one. Two top bolts (10mm) and one bolt (10mm) behind the drivers headlight (you have to remove the three 8mm bolts there too). Then two wire clips on the side closet to the engine. BUT it does have to properly programmed to the engine which does take some time and a way to program it. I'm unsure if they make aftermarket versions or if you have to go to the dealership to get the part. Maybe a call into your local auto parts store could give you the answer.

@MCFIXIT factory replacement injectors and tested before install so I didn't have them dry start. Lubed o rings before installing so nice smooth fit. This vehicle was beat it had only 1 cylinder firing as 5 plugs had broken tops of the plug. And 5 injectors were leaking so had to do the key dance to build pressure before starting but always started right up not having an idle issue until now. And I did the full tune up. But even after cleaning the throttle body and new gaskets and iac and ports. I didn’t replace the sensor nor did I try to clean it as it was running fine. So it's an onset anomaly I didn't expect. I may just take it all apart inspect the wiring traditionally and see what I find. Once this is tackled it had the wrong battery so air bag light was tripped for a Voltage out of range. And I don't have the scanner to reset not do I know how to bypass. I test rhe harnesses under the seats and cleaned and added connector grease but without the scanner can't test if solved. And if it was just battery that's been properly addressed.

@MCFIXIT No. It was shaking and rough idling is what got me looking. I'm sure cleaning the TB helped, but I got a mechanic buddy looking at it after I changed all the plugs and wires to no avail.

@MCFIXIT it starts rough idling when you put it in drive and after you've slowed to a stop and begin to accelerate again. It doesn't shake when you slow for like a turn. You have to come to a complete stop, and then when you accelerate to get going again, it starts complaining and moping like a teenager on an early Saturday morning when the yard needs to be mowed.

@@MCFIXIT buddy just texted me. It was the ignition coil. Rookie mistake not changing that when I changed the plugs and wires. Live and learn.

Do any of your black hoses going into the overhead cam (big black thing on top of the engine) sound like air is leaking? I had to replace one a few years ago due to a leak and it seemed like it fixed it and it became much less of a rough idel.

@@Bluemysticice Gotcha! This video was done on a Dodge Caravan / Chrysler Town and Country for Generation 4 for the years of 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. 3.3 liter or 3.8 liter engine size. It should be very similar for years before and after this. I posted this in the video description. I wish you could put longer titles to include specific dates, but KZfaq restricts the amount of characters. It should be a pretty similar fix though. I hope you fix yours!
