Round The Island

The film shows aspects of life in the Isle of Wight that would appeal to tourists and shows how rural the Island was at the time. This 16mm print is in Technicolor and has been restored to it's original colour rendition which has taken many hours to achieve. The film lasts for 24 minutes and has a spoken commentary by Ralph Wightman and Uffa Fox. Featured in the film is Wolverton Manor from the start.

The narrator is Dorset broadcaster Ralph Wightman (1901-1971) on whose voice Kenneth Williams famously based his radio character Arthur Fallowfield!

What a wonderful period film this is! Once again sat watching this whilst looking out to the Solent. Seems that the pace of change on the Island is increasing now, even over the last few years. Perhaps less so to the West. The Needles remain and amazing and unspoilt sight, and once which I plan to take in again today :-)

IoW seems to have changed quite a bit in the last 60 years but it's still a lovely place. Going back there in holiday again next month.
