Hey Abby, really enjoying these videos. Thought of you this weekend as I hiked across the road up to Lookout Ledge among other trails. Having hiked nearly every trail in the Presidential Range these videos offer a sense of intimate appreciation you can only get from wandering these mountains. I look forward to following along this journey of yours and perhaps I'll see you on trail someday. Stay warm up there!

Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm sure most of us daydream about these kinds of things while hiking through and thinking about the people who maintain the sites, so it's really interesting to get a look at the challenges and everything else.

I live in Gorham and in 1986, I spent a week at Grey Knob hiking around with my dog Rambo... Gary Chabot was the caretaker at this time and also a high school classmate... I just started to watch your videos and they are awesome... love the artist angles of the landscape... Enjoy your time, as it will be a highlight in your memories...

Hi Abby , your videos are awesome. Love the trail running as I used to trail run up until a couple years back. We visited the White Mountains last year, and I can certainly see why you love this place so much. Our highlight was Mount Washington in some of the worst weather we have ever encountered, and that was in July. There were dedicated trail runners up there that day enduring the horrible conditions which I was amazed at their dedication. Keep up the great videos!

I have enjoyed the mountain aspects and caretaker vids. What you said about the cold reminded me of spending my vacations at our cabin in February, no water and only a wood stove. We did have electricity though. One thing I remember that is hard to explain to people is how things sound different, maybe it is the silence outside, but the great squeak the snow has at -20 seems to exist in other things as well.

Hello Abby. Luckily the YT algorithm suggested me your channel, I guess because I love all things related to the outdoors. I also agree with many comments about the great scenery of that area of New Hampshire and the work you do as a mountain hut caretaker, but what I enjoyed the most was your tranquility and demeanor along with the beautiful photography and relaxing music. Thank you very much and God bless you!

Rocking chair, good book, fire. That's all I want. Been looking at the Sierra Madre Occidental for that. You life advice ('Do what I want, when I want', best I recall from last week) is spot on. Possessions possess us not we them. Experiences make us who we are and we largely choose the experiences that shape us in a healthy manner. good on ya! I have a healthy respect for those mountains you're in. They're not that high but perhaps that's why they can kill you easily if precautions aren't heeded. I read a book on the same subject when I first moved to Oregon and unfortunately the Feds didn't do nearly enough to prohibit or enforce deforestation. The logging barons mowed everything from east to west not sparing those forests down south either. The Big Thicket is now a small fraction of what it was and those who sourced medicinals from it not only lost their sources but eventually their skills as well. Now Big Pharma is trying to recover what they knew centuries ago. Sounds like Brazil is following in our tradition too. Thankfully we're not powerful enough to destroy Earth itself, just it's ability to sustain us.

Beautiful area. Thanks for sharing your adventure and job. What a wonderful place to work. I have lots of questions about how you power your electronics. I think solar but being in the NE do you have enough sunshine and with lots of snow you really have to keep up with cleaning them off. You say you share responsibilities with another worker. How many days on an off or what is your length of stay. I have more questions but will ask later. Looking forward to your new adventures. Stay safe.

Seeking BALANCE ( WHILE ) Understanding CHOICES. Its a Double edged sword for most to DIGEST. WHY ? You touched on this as a statement. PLENTY of time to do all that later. *B. U. T. T.* Is there really a Clock ticking for HOW much time ( WE ) Know there is for any of (US)? This is NOT a question. Instead a Statement of My Own. How many choices are made for *US* until ( WE ) start doing those tasks on our own ? TRICK QUETSION ? No its not actually. Answers many times lye within the Questions being asked. (IF) You have already decided that roaming free now versus doing the more STABLE approach to what Growing up ( INSTEAD ) of OLD ? That is on *YOU* for better or for WORSE. Be Understanding while still knowing that: yesterday is todays - tomorrow all the same. LIFE is a Four letter world. NOT all of them are bad. YET, to often (WE) are sucked into the *REST* before being told they will consume US and our LOVED ones as well. I wrote you today for it was me in a sense you are referring to at your young age. It would help when you're feeling so cold to actually wear appropriate clothing, especially on your legs! Also, sitting for 4 hours will reduce your core temperature still further. You have an absolute dream job but appear to waste the experience by moping around the cabin a lot of the time. You'll regret that as you get older - trust me I know.

That woodstove should provide enough heat to be more than comfortable. If you are cold all the time then you are not using it properly. Take a few minutes and either read up on woodstove use or watch a ton of you tube videos on woodstove operation. The short is keep a good bed of coals in it and if the stove has a damper understand how to use it and you will be more than comfortable even in the coldest days!

@abbyjbennett
@abbyjbennett 8 ай бұрын
Hey! I use a wool base layer, thicker wool layer or fleece over that, then a lightweight jacket or a puffy. That’s for being indoors. When I go out running or hiking, I usually go lighter on the layers and top it with a hardshell. But it all depends on the weather, wind, and how fast I’m going to be moving
