How do you insert vocal tuning on the X32 while running monitors from the same console? I'll show you how using only a computer and a USB cable.

Hey James, love your stuff, especially some of the collaborations you've been doing lately. I'd love more detail on this particular video and topic. More specifics on the how-tos. For example, I wasn't entirely clear what else you were using on the Mac apart from Waves Tune. What is doing the audio routing on the Mac? Is there anything special needed other than a regular USB cable? It explains the possibilities better than the how-to details...

Routing is just with the USB cable, using the Behringer X-USB as the audio driver. The only other thing running on the computer is Safari to check planning center for the key of the songs :) I try to keep things tidy, especially when I'm running my most important through it.

Can I do the vocal eq, compression, or effects on the computer? Will it sound good or make it worst to send it back to the FOH?

So I have a question regarding this type of setup. I want to run two DAWs (Ableton running loops and Logic for recording Logic Pro and doing vocal tuning). Yes, I shouldn't do it, *BUT* it's a proof of concept that I've been pondering about for a while. All inputs are local, but Logic returns back the tuned vocals for the audience/house, loops/stems/backing tracks run into the house but are also recorded into Logic. I've been fiddling with the routing settings on the X32 and I can't nail it, I know it's possible, just don't know how. Any tips? 😅

Have you measured the latency doing this? What buffer size are you using? Other than auto tune, have you used this method for other processing like eq, compression, etc? or with sends like reverb, delay?

I'm only using tuning on this setup. Another church where I set this up just added F6 on the vocals to help with harshness... check out my waves vocal plugin video for details on that one. We're using a buffer of 512 and the latency isn't noticeable in a room that can hold 250 or so.

I'm attempting to set this up at my church, on my personal laptop for now until I get it figured out. I'm using an X32 but I have a different DAW, Cakewalk by Bandlab. I believe I have the inputs and outputs set up exactly as you have, and I see signal in both sets of vocal channels, but I have 3 issues. Signal strength is very week on the raw (untuned vocal) vocal channels. Despite updated my P-16 vocal inputs to match untuned vocal channels I have no sound in the IEM. The Wave plug in is present and activated on the vocal channels in my DAW, but it isn't doing anything (works fine when playing back previous recordings). I'm thinking maybe I've set up something wrong in Cakewalk but I can't find it. Any ideas?

So I have tried to follow this and have everything setup but still am not getting corrected pitch. I don't have the Audio Cues setup my routing goes from Audio Input to Vocal 1 which has the plugin and when I mute the plugin it mutes the sound out put to the board and it is registering that sound is coming in but the out put is not having the pitch corrections. Any help would be great.

TY for the excellent information. We are a traveling worship band that uses the same system (X32 Rack and Carvin TRC600A FOH) everywhere we go. We just tune things to the room. However, we don’t have a true sound engineer involved. Thus, we do a lot of front-end prep work. What would you recommend as a starting point for us to educate ourselves and improve each piece to have a professional sound?

Awesome video man! Found out about you with churchfront! Is there a way to do this and also record through USB? For example I want to report the entire worship service but also tune the voices is there a program for that or can you run both programs at the same time?

I hear that having two programs take the audio from the same USB interface is no bueno. But I haven't tried it and broken it before, so maybe it'll work!

We're doing exactly that. For us the solution is to use the same program for recording and tuning. Probably any DAW will do the job. Can't tell you whether it's a good idea, but it's working great for us. For sure a DAW isn't as optimized for scene changes etc. as LiveProfessor. Currently we're using reaper.

I am using Live Professor and enjoying it for some effects (reverb for vocals, some other stuff for bass, kick, guitar). However. one thing I notice is you cannot run virtual sound check out of your computer into the inputs as Card ... then have them route out again to the computer and back in again. have you gotten virtual sound check to feed Card channels back out the card again for LP processing?
@AttawayAudio

@@AttawayAudio I've imagined that I could run Virtual Sound Check on our rack X32 we use for in-ears and back through to the FoH as inputs then into LP. But that's a bit snaggletooth to me. Would just love a way to be able to use LP off-board processing without requiring the band to be involved on hot inputs. Ohh maybe - 2nd X32 rack just for inputs from VSC then thru 2nd AES50 . Ah nevermind. I think I need a Wing.

You can hear the delay between the direct and the tuned delayed signal. Wouldn't this affect the singer's performance if they want to listen to the tuned vocals?
@sporknaut
@sporknaut 2 жыл бұрын
I think the singer should listen to the untuned vocal so they know they're actual pitch when singing.

Hello, my mic channels are 18-23 and I suck at routing lol. How would I go about setting the routing up correctly? Send 18 to card out and the for the return, would be 25 card in?

Any recommendations for some low latency interface's for this application?
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio 2 жыл бұрын
I've used the PreSonus USB interface, or the X-USB function on the x32. Latency depends on buffer size, which a lower buffer (lower latency) puts more strain on your CPU, so you have to balance that with the amount of processing you want to apply. Of course there's the latency of the plugins themselves, but that's another story.
@richcinematics3944

You can test out your computer with different buffer sizes. Lowest is best for latency. Work your way down until your pc can't handle it. Then you probably get away with most pitch correction vst. But there are differences. Waves autotune is good, but Antares autotune is really the best in the market. They manage to have nearly zero latency. But it's also the most expensive depending on all the versions with extra features. So best case you have a pc that can handle 32samples buffer size in your daw and you use Antares autotune. In theory you should get under 5ms latency. I would see this as ideal

This is just an observation. Have you considered making a video with a step-by-step process to set up a vocal mic with Waves tune on the X32, MAC, and Live Professor? In the current video, you simply say "That's the way I set it up" without specific programming steps. It kinda comes off like you're trying to showcase your skills instead of showing people how to actually accomplish the task of setting the systems up. This is just an idea.
