RovyVon SL41 Transcript:
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• It's always a pleasure when I get to review a light from RovyVon - there's always something exciting and unique about each one - a rare feeling for me as I review so many lights! This one here, the SL41 is part of their new SL or safety light series that crams in a load of different features and LEDs all in one rectangular package. It has UV LEDs, white LEDs, and secondary red and white flood light LEDs. It's basically an all-in-one EDC flashlight and signal light.
• What's included? Belt-clip, USB-C charging cable, spare gasket replacement, carry case.
• Comparison with some other signal lights/all-in-one lights. It's a lot larger than those smaller keychain-style signal lights that I've reviewed in the past.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• The external parts of the light are constructed from polycarbonate with some rubberized areas where the buttons are. Surprisingly, this light weighs 120 grams - I think there is some kind of internal heatsink + the 2500mAh battery that would explain the extra weight. There are transparent windows around the edges of the light to allow light to pass through.
• Strong magnet at the back of the light. You can also attach a belt clip by following the markings on the back of the light.
• 2500mAh lithium polymer cell + USB-C Charging. Impressive battery capacity for a light of this size.
• 2x 365nm UV LEDs - they look like SST-10 LEDs. Produce a heap of UV light - probably the most out of all my dedicated UV lights. No visible light filter. Primary LEDs - 2x SST-20 6500K capable of 1000 lumens. On the sides, there are some SMD LEDS - 8x white LEDs and 8x red LEDs. Each group of LEDs are operated by separate buttons on the front 'panel'. RovyVon are also releasing other variants including the SL42, 43, 44, 45, and 46 which have various combinations of LEDs depending on your needs - for example, the 45-46 come with 850nm IR LEDs.
UI - modes
• Press and hold the front side light button (red) for 5 seconds to lock/unlock.
• Each other button will activate each mode, press the button again to toggle sub-modes.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• The SST20s are bright in this little enclosure and throw further than expected. Step down is reasonable too - 600 lumens. The same goes for the UV LEDs. The side LEDs function more as a close proximity flood light and signal light.
Considerations
• Wish the UV button was off to the side away from the other buttons. Make sure you face the light away from you when activating just in case you press the wrong button. The UV LEDs are very powerful.
• Non-replaceable battery - but it's a 2500mAh battery that will withstand wear for longer.
• Cost - this is priced more than other signal lights out there, but in my opinion, it's more of an all-rounder.
Verdict
• This is one of the most unique all-in-one flashlights I've seen out there. I know it's marketed as a safety/signal light, but the SL41 is a great stand-alone EDC flashlight - the 1000 lumen output is more than enough for most purposes. The floody side lights are also great for closer-up use as a walking or reading light. The UV lights really blew me away with how much light it produced - probably because I only have single LED UV lights. If you're looking for a no-hassle, easy-to-use, do-it-all all flashlight check out the SL41!

That RovyVon reminds me of a Motorola pager from 1991. I worked in a bank and remember few of my colleagues who were doing PC tech support had to bring their pagers everywhere. All-in-one? Yes it is. Game changing? No. For starters, it isn't as affordable as most Convoy flashlights. Any flashlight that comes in a nice toolbox case screams _"I'm premium, not cheap!"_ 😀 If Sofirn made something like this, it would be priced much like the IF24 RGB light. 🔦☺ I can see how a clip-on body safety light might be useful for non adventurers though. A mom could clip one of these to her kids so that they're easier to be spotted in a crowded place, should she become separated from her children. Runners and joggers and maintenance workers will appreciate the SL41 as wear-on beacons to increase their visibility by the roadside.

Clip them to your kids 🤣 I used to have a Nextorch UT41 which went missing from my bag awhile ago, so this will be a nice replacement (though it's a lot larger). I don't think the Sofirn crowd would appreciate the non-replaceable battery. Looks suited to first responders.

@@DarrenYeoYT Oh dear, sorry to hear about your missing UT41. If it was a thief who nicked it, he could have been a flashaholic too. 🤔 Wearing a body strapped beacon would be a good idea for EMTs, HazMat personnel and cops, but their respective departments and ministries won't buy these RovyVon lights at retail prices. Sealed batteries will work in favour of users who don't want to, or don't bother to learn how to disassemble unit. Not every paramedic spend their spare time soldering 8A buck drivers onto their department issued flashlights. 😀

Interesting light. I am struggling to find use scenario, really a kind of specialty light.

Yeah maybe first responders, or in your car glovebox if your car breaks down, maybe an emergency kit bag.

Seems like a good light to have in your car. Can you think of any other lights that may be even better for that?

Maybe the Nextorch P84. It takes a 21700 and also has signal lights, but they aren't as bright and also no UV.

I wish these companies would just go ahead and make a flashlight that has a cool white emitter, a warm, white emitter as well as a UV emitter. You always have to choose between a UV emulator or a warm emmiter on all their product. if it truly had everything, it would just have every type, including a laser! No one’s done that yet. As soon as someone does that, they’ll sell a ton of them.

It's totally possible. I'd prefer something in a tube style like the Sofirn IF23, replaceable battery.

@@DarrenYeoYT 👍 Yes. Lots of people are thinking twice about flashlights that have non replaceable batteries. Often I decide not to buy based on that.

Interesting, I followed the Amazon link, this light is not for sale there. Its a $100 light on the companies webpage. No thanks.

Think this might be designed for first responders or rescue teams? Can’t see any real use as an edc item.

Yeah I'd say so. It is a hybrid of a signal light and general EDC light.

Had a good laugh reading your comment. It's probably more of a signal light.
