ROWENA WISE (fka Ro) brings in the New Year with the aptly titled ‘New Years’, a devastating reflection on change and letting go. It’s that “slow-drip feeling of falling apart when you know you’re about to say goodbye, even though your heart is still completely in it”, says Rowena. Following last year's “carefully etched indie folk” (Clash Magazine) track ‘Nobody’s Saviour’, ‘New Years’ shines as a beautifully tender introspection for our own New Year's reflections.
“I wrote this song after NYE in Stockholm. In -20°C and feeling jet lagged, I was having an out-of-body experience. I walked through the snow with the person I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with and thousands of people sang from the hilltops all around the city. I gave into the beauty of the moment, even though I knew I had to leave it soon”, says Rowena. “Some memories have a hold over you, especially the ones that are both joyous and sad. With this song I am attempting to digest this memory but I feel like I failed to reach a conclusion. As a result, I’m painting a picture rather than answering the questions I have.”
