I watched this show, as well as "Take Five" which premiered after it, the night they premiered. The next week they were on (also known as the last week they were on), I just watched "Take Five." 'Nuff said. This thing may have started life as a "Kate & Allie" planted spin-off. It certainly was not when it went in front of the cameras. By the time CBS got done tinkering with it, the only things that were the same was that it was a TV station... and Andrea Martin was on it. "Take Five" had great dixieland music, it was funny, and it deserved a better lead-in.

Nice find. Hey, I finally discovered a compilation of bits from John Candy’s Big City Comedy on YT; it’s under the title “John Candy Sketch Show”...

Okay then, ... this is an SCTV alumnus prime-time shot that I had no idea even existed. Oddly strange to see Andrea uncomfortably constrained by the rigid parameters of network high-concept shackles. Think I'll time-trip back to early '70's "CFDC" Canadiana and check out "CANNIBAL GIRLS" and "BLACK CHRISTMAS" for my weird Andrea Martin fix; most definitely an obscure upload to be sure....

I thought for a minute that this was an SCTV parody of a bad sitcom.....

I keep hearing Libby Wolfson. It's nice that they tried to do something so over-the-top spun off from a sitcom as pedestrian as Kate and Allie, but it could never work. Was this premiere episode also the finale?

It aired 2 episodes. But I think 5 were filmed but never aired

You can’t even call it a spinoff because the character has a totally dif name from “Kate and Allie.”

I don't know why Allan Katz and Bob Randall worked on this. Who should've been a better writer for this series?

The writing isn’t THAT bad. It’s just such a formulaic flow. Set up-joke-laugh. Move to the next spot. Repeat.

The audience over doing it is awful. I was at a taping of another failed sitcom, “Dads” on Fox. They wanted us to laugh like that on ALL jokes. They were bad.

How horrible. Ugh. If you wanna see something bad, watch the final episode of “Living Dolls” in which it was only one lone man laughing throughout the entire episode. Ugh.

the commercials and promos were more enjoyable than that awful sitcom. poor andrea. she deserved better.

Good cast, bad writing, definitely.

...and the first commercial starring none other than former SCTV producer Don Novello. As mentioned the writing is atrocious, only lasted two episodes!

Donald Andrew Novello aka Father Guido Sarducci was magnificent on SNL :)
