Klasiq - but you just did! Gives me hope for the future! One point - look at audience - NO CELL PHONES.... a time when artist could really connect w crowd, if if you were lucky it transported you - without interruption.... just put down the phone
@Wally-H4 ай бұрын
@@JamesVibe Using your phone is still frowned upon in Ronnie Scotts. Videoing the act is strictly forbidden, and there are signs everywhere asking people to put their phones on silent. They aren't banned and you could text etc. but people don't tend to on the whole. Audiences there are expected to be respectful of the acts and they generally are.

You're probably 30 years old now since you posted this 8 years ago. I was about the same age as you (in 1991) when I went to see Roy live at Ronnie Scotts - and I had the same sentiment as you.

For those who didn't grow up with Roy Ayers' music in the 70's, he was absolutely one of the greatest geniuses. His music was considered partly contemporary Jazz crossover and partly R&B.

I was absolutely gutted when I heard about Zachary back in 1997, the man was a genius. The fact that he died whilst trying to save someone's life just shows the type of man he was.

David, this was 1989. I remember my brother in law recorded this on video off the telly and lent it to me, then I made a music cassette of it and played it to death. it does say at the end when it was recorded.

@@jacko717 Yes, I don't know whether Roy played a longer set and they edited it down to this. Another possibility is that he did 2 - 3 short sets on the same night - I go to Ronnie Scotts sometimes and they often do that, i.e. they get the artist to do their set three times in the evening and it's only maybe an hour and fifteen minutes long, with no breaks. I guess because it is a small venue, that's the best way for them to make a decent profit when paying well-known artists, who don't come cheap.

"I don't know your name, but I know you're looking good" This video really shines in comparison to the Brewhouse Theatre video of 3(?) years later. The crowd are pumped in this one, the music is real funky and Roy has the audience in the palm of his hand.
