On May 2, 1968, two six-man US Special Forces teams found their covert reconnaissance operation severely compromised. Miles behind enemy lines, they were pinned down under the relentless fire from hundreds of advancing North Vietnamese soldiers.
Like the mutilated crewmembers of the three helicopters that had attempted to land and extract them, four of the Special Forces men were now dead, the remaining eight men all severely wounded, running low on both ammunition and their own blood.
Carrying only his recon Bowie knife and a med bag, a young Army Green Beret named Roy would be the only hope for those surviving eight men.
This is Part Three of the story of Roy Benavidez, Six Hours in Hell.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
For all things strange and unusual relating to war and the military, Wartime Stories covers the most chilling cases of crimes against humanity, bizarre tales, unsolved mysteries, espionage, deception, creepy encounters of the paranormal, as well as feats of valor and ultimate sacrifice.

I gotta say that I do prefer the straight narration style, but seeing as this is a personal wish of the actual people that the story is about....the dramatised additions are more than fine by me.

Hello, My name is Kathy Mueller and SSG Lloyd “Frenchy” Mousseau was my father. I just finished listening to the last episode of Six Hours in Hell and wanted to thank you for the care you took in telling the story. Since 2000, more and more information has been revealed to me about that incredible battle. And while, it was difficult to listen to, I am grateful for the existence of these videos. I knew that the final moments of the story would be some of the most difficult- and it was- but it was beautifully done. I appreciate your actors, the dialog, and the great narration. Without Roy’s heroism I’m not sure I would have ever learned as much about 2 May 1968 as I know today. One of my greatest disappointments is that I never met Roy. I did not know of his existence until 2000 and he had passed away. However, I have had the opportunity to meet many of the pilots, Leroy’s sons, families of those that passed, and Brian O’Connor. To hear them spoken of in your videos gave me even more love and admiration for them. The end of episode 3 with Roy speaking was beautiful and made me love him even more. Please thank Parker for doing such a fabulous job portraying my father. God bless you in your continued endeavors and thank you again.

That’s what my husband did. He has such terrible PTSD from it. He wasn’t the type that ever should have went, he cares too much about the person that was on the other end of his rifle. Maybe that’s what the military needs but it caused him so many issues. Nothing like this guy did of course and my husband wasn’t physically injured but he’s a caring person and any sort of combat messes with caring people. I’m more empathetic than he is and that’s why I never joined. One time he thought there was a town or some houses behind the hill that someone was shooting at him from so instead of using his Moduse he tore off his helmet so he could see better, jumped up on the glass circle thing (it was an MRAP) and used his rifle and shot one time. The shooting stopped. He put himself in danger to make sure others were safe and that’s why I love him, I would do the same but I also got mad at his recklessness because we had a newborn he needed to get back to lol. Mixed emotions. Anyway he’s still just as reckless but I can tell that the fact he shot people really messes with him. It wasn’t the mortars, the danger, or the roadside bombs that got him, it was the fact he took lives without knowing why they were there. His logic is they could have been forced and that’s true, but the blood is on the hands of whoever forced them, not him. What else are you supposed to do if someone is shooting at you? If he wanted to come home to me he didn’t have much of a choice but I don’t think words can help.

Then went BACK out (for a second tour), where he stepped on a landmine, and got blown up into a concrete covert (with his legs behind his head)... They had to use sheep's bones, and metal plates, to replace the shattered bones in his legs... My heart TRULY goes out to the memory of Roy Benavidez, Desmond Doss, "Uncle Frank", and to ALL of the men and women (AND their families),, who have selflessly served and sacrificed, to make this (the U.S.) the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!! You have a gift for storytelling. You also have a gift for describing and presenting war in a visceral, gritty, and sobering way devoid of any glorification. This is not the first of your videos that made me visualize the terrifying atmosphere and pause to think to myself "those poor guys, I feel so sorry for them" in the middle of a battle recount that would typically be presented as being exciting and heart pumping. I have to say, there is a deeply meaningful thing going on with the way you're telling these stories. I was moved by this man's story, and properly honoring this heroic man in this way is befitting. Great work, Wartime Stories.

Luke, what an incredible tribute you created to an amazing human being. You and your team did a fantastic job staying true to his story and enchanting it with great visuals and voice work. We could never know what it was like to actually be there but you gave us a glimpse into the hell they went through. You have a beginnings of what could be a script for a movie about not only his time at war, but his heroic life overall. I understand that after he retired he had to fight for his and other veterans medical benefits. Astonishing that after all he and they did for our country, they would have to struggle to keep the very basic of what is due to them. Thank you for taking all the time and effort to tell his story. You can tell it was a labor of love and respect. This art form will provide a wider audience an opportunity to learn about Mr. Benavides but also the power of the human spirit. The power to feel so compelled by duty, honor, and loyalty that one would risk it all for others. Thank you and blessing to you and your team. This is truly a masterful piece of work.

Roy was an incredible soldier and It's stories of soldiers like Roy and others that are real example's of what a real American and Patriot each of us whether serving, or civilian should push ourselves everyday to be that dedicated in our lives.

Something this video showed me about this engagement which no other really has, is the incredible bravery of the NVA. Despite the constant barrage of willy pete, napalm, high explosives, and gunfire from surrounding aircraft, they kept charging into the open to kill or capture the American recon team. Such incredible devotion to duty on both sides here.

You all did an unbelievable awesome job telling Roy's story. I'm still not fully comprehending that this is true!!!! I'm only half way through this episode trying to wipe away the tears.....We all know that war is true hell, but honestly unless someone (like Roy) tells his/her story, we who have never had to fight just have no inkling as to how hideous it really is and how low human beings can be towards one another. To any and all service men & women reading this thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service regardless of whether or not you've fought. And thank you Luke for bringing this story to us. If any of Roy's family sees this comment, just know how much I respect, honor and even love Roy for his courage, bravery and selflessness. He is the epitome of heroism. I'm glad to know he was finally honored for his courageous acts!!!

This was genuinely painful for me to listen to. I say that not as a criticism, but a compliment. Well done sir, you brought Roy's story to life. A man like that deserves to live forever in our memories. Anything less is sacrilege.

You my friend should be given a budget, studio backing and free reign at producing a TV Series. Thankyou for such a touching, inspirational and exciting story. Just found your channel about a week ago. I found this one of the most touching and raw stories this channel has told yet. Thank you, Luke, for all you do. For giving a voice to those soldiers drowned out in political and social violence. Thank you for sharing Roy's story. I hope that all vets, the currently serving and the retirees will all find someone like you, who is passionate about telling their stories.

I the late 70s as a young rookie police officer in Ruston Louisiana I encountered Roy Benavides on a traffic stop. He was very intoxicated. I arrested him and took him in for DWI. My supervisor Lt Charles McIntyre began asking him questions about his destination and military service. After a call to Benavides’ commanding officer we learned that he was on his way to DC for hearings pertaining to his Medal of Honor. My Lieutenant and I “unarrested “ Roy. We took him to a local motel and tucked him in. We had the wrecker service deliver his vehicle to the motel. He was the perfect gentleman during the whole ordeal. That was the last we heard of him until a few years later I opened the Shreveport Times. The top story and picture was of Roy receiving his long-awaited honor. I consider it an honor to have had met him even if it was unusually circumstances Donald Kimbell

Luke, your skills as a producer/Director/writer/ are exceptional, I was glued to my phone watching this. I'll admit, this brought tears to my eyes. Roy, well what can one say about this man, there isn't enough words to describe his humanity and strength. Also, what a travesty of our government to deny Roy his medal of HONOR, for si long. God Bless our men and women who sacrifice everything. Thanks Luke, for your service as well. .. God Bless

This story left me speechless, touched me to the point of tears and left me in admiration and astonishment of Roy Benavidez's courage and determination to save the soldiers.Part which shocked me the most was when he held Mousseau's hand throught the flight to medical center only to feel it go numb.Very touching part was when O'Connor testified for Benavidez so he can receieve his medal of Honor. His daughter's letter and also his speech at the end are beautiful conclusion. What a man he was.Thank you for sharing this.

I met MSG Benevidez. He was invited to give a speech at my school, NMMI. He spoke of initiative, perseverence, and honour among the military brotherhood. He related a brief story when he was in Nam to make his point. He walked a bit stiffly due to his injuries that never quite healed, but was a very humble man. He answered cadets' queries and encouraged them to keep camaraderie. My school awarded him an honourary degree.
