Mourinho when he was a sky pundit "I think Marcus was forced by the club to be a number 9. But he isn't a number 9. He can be but his main strength is on the wing. Especially against teams that attack if united goes on a counter he can kill them. I remember a game we played against Liverpool and we had to win to get 2nd that season and I knew that Liverpool was going to attack like crazy so my plan was simple. I have a world class keeper. I need my boys at the back to leave blood on the pitch and then I knew Marcus on the wing would kill them. First half he scores 2 goals from the wing we win the game we get 2nd place. So Ole has to stop using him as a target man that's not Marcus " EDIT Just saw he is turning 60 today. HBD to the special one

I think one of the reasons why he's so confident going into 1v1 or even 1v2 situations is how ETH solidified the team. MU improved a lot in getting the ball back after losing it so Marcus knows he can do these things safely. There will be no problem if he fails in these situations sometimes because the teammates will fix it.

Rashford has always been good. People easily forget , just two seasons ago he did over 20 goals together with Martial. The incident at the Europ e cup final, the abuse from the loss of penalty, coupled with the injury and the surgery he had to undergo which denied him pre-season training affected him, then add a team that completely lost its direction under Ole and Ragnick, include the coming of Ronaldo, so much happening at the same time. It was just too much for him to handle. His current celebration tells a story in itself I also think the distraction from Pogba and Lingard was also there. It would seem he is now freed from all of those , a couple of goals under a coach that believes in him, even willing to pick him above Ronaldo has restored his confidence. I believe he plays better with Martial beside him both have devastating speed which many defences cannot deal with and both understand each other very well. If only Martial can be consistent and be rid of his injury problems . If Garnacho can step up ,he might become the pacy partner that allows Rashford even more freedom to wreck havoc with his pace. I am happy to see him playing with a smile on his face again. That haunted look on his face last season was worrying!

Rashford was in form prior to the world cup. He carried that form into the tournament as well scoring 3 goals against Iran and Wales only to get dropped for Foden who has never played well for England on the wing. Kane needs direct runners with pace around him and Gareth decided to drop a player that has those qualities in abundance for another player who has a completely different skillset. The trouble with Rashford is I think he lets things get to him to easily. When he’s frustrated/struggling in the game he visibly loses his focus and starts to get mopey and selfish. Even against Arsenal on Sunday he was acting like that. If he can learn to temper that side of his game moving forward he’s set for the rest of his career. Otherwise we’ve seen all this from him before like Roy said, he gets off on a really good run of form then crashes out for a few months after rinse repeat.

I get quite frustrated when listening to people talking about Rashford. Last season was his only truly bad season, along with virtually every other Utd player. The 2 seasons before he had 21 goals and double figures assists , and yet the narrative seems to be he was rubbish for 3 years previous to this season. Ok, this is his best form ever, but he is, as he always was, a very good player developing into his prime. Long may it continue.

Wikipedia lists Marcus’ height as 5ft 11, but he looks a lot taller than that. Bummer for opposition who think 5ft 11, and then see him striding on the field.

Like Bruno said, this has always been Rashford, I was telling people for years, he is one I never wanted to sell ever because I knew we are one good manager away from unlocking his potential and Ten Hag has done just that.

Much credit to Ten Hag, for sure he influenced Rashford a lot, small details, also on his diet, for sure Ten Hag is monitoring his diet as well as his mental, communication and just being clear of what he wants from him. express yourself

I don't think it's to do with the penny dropping. I think he would have been under strict orders to always pass to the intimidating Ego of Cristiano, but now that Rashford is the main man combined with having a brilliant modern attacking coach who knows how to coach and improve players, is the reason for his form. Van Gaal and Jose were disastrous managers for a player like Rashford. Having Eriksen create things a little further back helps too.

Rashford has been playing injured and unfit for the last few seasons. Doesnt mean he stopped learning. Now he has his fitness back - back to business as usual.
