I live in Alabama, and was born here. I have lived in several other states and was stationed in other countries. I am SO ASHAMED of Alabama and the total ignorance that I see every day. I will forever judge people that I know voted for Trump. They all try to compare Trump to Obama. This is insane! They are all so easily brain washed, so easily led with blind faith. Any hope that I had for saving our country from the trumps is fading.

Would someone explain to me why the most overt fundamentalist christians are the most opposed to the actual teachings of Jesus? Seriously, he was all "give everything to the poor", "Treat the soujourner/refugee/immigrant with love and care" and he flipped over the tables of the money-lenders who were extorting people, to say nothing of supposedly healing anyone and everyone without pay, AND defending a prostitute/adulterer, all of which are things that the religious right do pretty much the opposite of.

great responses. I'm an atheist but I have read the bible as well as many other religions. the bible predicts all this - that those who most loudly proclaim their Christianity will be the biggest hypocrites (or something to that effect). Trump may very well be the anti Christ, deceiving many with his claim of being Christian while his actions are antithetical to what Christianity teaches.

Jesus probably never even existed. There is an academic case to be made based on biblical scholarship that the Christ character started out as a purely mythical figure and was subsequently canonicized as a supposed real person. Of course that's just one possibility. The other is that he existed but was just your run of the mill jewish messianic cult leader, who preached around a little in first century judaea and about whom people just liked to make up stories. That being said, the dogma attributed to him by the authors of the texts that would later be ratified by church councils and included into the bible was often very leftist and anti-establishment because that's what sold well with the common people. Which is why a lot of it still sounds ok today, when you take out all of the mystical mumbo jumbo. When you take out all of the religious nonsense you're basically left with a primitive version of proto-humanism. Of course it's totally twisted and perverted by the religious dogma, there is plenty in the bible directly attributed to Jesus that is utterly heinous and would be considered immoral archaic crap by today's standards. Which is to be expected really, the bible suffers from an obvious case of bipolar disorder, no surprise there since different bits of it had different authors and were revised and reedited over the years, so that it's all an utter cacophony of different and mutually contradictory messages, which is what allows religious people to pick and choose their favorite bits and justify whatever ideology they fancy.

the south would probably do just fine and continue along pretty much as they are now. you would likely have some significant exodus of minorities as people who stand to lose rights would flee... the down side is that the north would then have a known enemy state attached directly to them geographically. it certainly would be an interesting topic for a fiction writer or movie script.

im coming to the realization that change is more like a wave; it comes up and then it goes back down. we don't just make and keep progress, we make a gain, then it gets pulled back.

Let the South secede. Deep down collectively, they do not want to be part of the Union. They don't want to have anything with the Union. It is exhausting to keep them in the Union. Just let them leave. If at all possible, let some parts of the Midwest that identify with the South's hatred for the Union leave, too.
