Lyrics:
A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."
I close my eyes, then I drift away
Into the magic night, I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do
Then I fall asleep to dreams, my dreams of you
In dreams I walk with you, in dreams I talk to you
In dreams you're mine, all of the time
We're together in dreams, in dreams
But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone
I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry
I remember that you said goodbye
It's too bad that all these things
Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams, in beautiful dreams

My dad passed away suddenly in 2021 from a heart attack, and we played this song later at his funeral. The night after he died I dreamt about him coming to me and giving me a big hug to say goodbye. @@vheth5968 I'm sorry but it wasn't really him. When people die, they are dead. If you see someone in your dreams that resembles or looks like a loved one, it is a familiar spirit. Not saying The person's dad is a bad person or anything of that sort, just that when people die they are dead and will go to either heaven or hell when Jesus comes back. Also not denying the fact that Roy Orbison had a great voice.

The astounding thing about this song is that it keeps evolving from beginning to end, without ever doubling back on itself. No repeated verses or bridges or choruses--just movements. One of the great masterpieces in the history of popular music.

When this song premiered in 1963, I was in the 8th grade. I loved it the moment I heard it. There was something magical about the composition, the range of Roy's voice. I am now 70. As a Viet Nam era veteran, I never dreamed (see what I am doing here) I would live to see the 21st Century. Yet, here it is! It is 2019. I am still here. And so is Roy in this wonderful song.

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.

This was music in the sixties for those of you not lucky enough to be there. For years I thought I was weird, and alone, for loving Orbison and his voice as I did. I had grown up with him, as a teenager in the late 50s-early 60s, and while others were rocking to Elvis, Jerry Lee, and others, I was a closet Orbison fan and stayed so throughout his "dark period" in the 70s and into the 80s. I saw him at Jonathan Swift's in Harvard Square sometime in the early 80s, then a few years later at Symphony Hall in Boston. It wasn't until Blue Velvet, Mystery Girl, and his comeback that I felt any kind of vindication for sticking with him when few others remembered him. To hear the likes of Springsteen, Bono, Robert Plant, Bernie Taupin, Barry Gibbs, and others sing his praises (if not his songs) was even sweeter. He was, and still is, the greatest voice of his generation. Vocally (not necessaarily stylistically) his only peers were John Denver and Jay Black of Jay and the Americans.

Roy Orbison and this type of song no longer exist anymore. Roy had a voice that could break your heart, even more so when one considers the terrible tragedies that framed his life. Even so, he continued to make exquisite music. He remains a class act that hasn't been matched, thirty-two years after his typically short life.

@Adrian CV STAR MAN said that Elvis's genius was above Orbison's and that's just false. I'm not saying this out of spite for Elvis. The dude went out of his way more than a few times to say he didn't write his own stuff, which is pretty admirable. I love them both, but Orbison is an actual songwriter.
@sumumfachunk2591
@sumumfachunk2591 3 жыл бұрын
@Adrian CV I never said Elvis wasn't good. Don't know where you're getting that from. I'm saying an artist that makes timeless classics and also pens them is automatically at a different level. Bing Crosby is one of my favorites and he has an excellent voice, but he only wrote like two songs. Genius is such an overused word.

This song is even more sad and more beautiful after you find out that this legendary singer lost his Wife in a motorcycle accident and he lost two of his Sons in a house fire while he was touring overseas. Roy's good friends, Elvis and Johnny Cash, kept in touch with Roy and checked in on him often after Roy lost his Sons. Johnny Cash even had the building Roy's Sons died in tore down and he had a beautiful orchard put in it's place to honor Roy and his Sons. Rest in peace, Roy Orbison..you are greatly missed. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I've loved this guy's music for sixty years. Especially the wonderful, structured songs with Roy's 3 octave range voice packing them with emotion as they build to a crescendo. 'In Dreams', 'Running Scared', 'Only The Lonely', 'It's Over' and my absolute favourite, 'Crying' are, in my opinion, the finest rock ballads ever recorded and will ensure his music lives forever.

My parents music taste brought me here. I’ve been a fan of Roy since my early years, not without being scared of his voice at first 😅 I remember a conversation with my dad the first time i heard Roy when i was 5 or 6. I got scared of "Blue Bayo" beginning and asked him who was singing and he told me it was a great singer from the past who was no longer alive for many years. I think this added the creepy feeling when i heard him, Elvis and others on their slow, more melodic tunes.
