In 1989, Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood came together to record their first collaborative effort since The Move's "My Marge", which appeared at the end of their 1971 album Message from the Country. The results were two tracks: "Me and You" and "Get What You Want".
From Roy Wood regarding the tracks (August 1994):
"At the time I was staying at his house socially and we were just messing around. I played him this idea for a song that I'd had which eventually ended up as a song called Me And You. I played him the tune for the verse and all that. He said, 'Well, I'll throw a few bits in.' And we ended up writing it together and recording it. It turned out well. He also had a guy staying with him named Richard Dodd who recorded the Traveling Wilburys and he's a great engineer. It turned out well and we stayed up one night and wrote another song that we thought we could do as a single and stick it on the B-side. It was called Get What You Want. Me And You is an out-and-out pop song and Get What You Want sounds like an old skiffle number."
Wood was also quoted in December 2009 as intending to release the song:
"Some years ago I recorded a track with my old mate Jeff Lynne, and I’m hoping to include it on a new compilation I’d like to put together next year."
However, the song never made it onto the compilation, which was eventually released as Music Book in 2011. However, the two tracks are rumored to exist on rare CD's with early tracklists of the compilation.
Until this unreleased gem finally sees the light of day in truly high quality, this is our restoration of the track. Someone once told me that you can't do hardly anything with an MP3 file, but this one turned out pretty well. Enjoy!

Somehow, some way, these two need to get together for at least one more song. They are too good together and we need it. ❤

Ironically, when ELO first appeared, it was Wood who got all the critical attention. He was better known then, and ELO was seen as his project.

Between 1966 till 1986, these 2 wrote some of the greatest songs ever - Roy 1966 - 1975, Jeff from 1974 - 1986, naturally they couldn't keep that level up as this song shows but we have 20 years worth of classics to enjoy.

Don Arden convinced Roy to leave ELO and start his own band. You know, two bands would make that much more money for sleazy Arden. But Roy and Jeff were both strong leaders, it would have been difficult if Roy stayed.

Good song though not sure what’s going on with snare. Doesn’t sound like Bev. I think people who worry about Roy Wood’s legacy because of his short time in ELO forget he was in The Move and Wizzard and wrote one of the two greatest Christmas songs of all time.

The audio is RESTORED, so some bits of the original sound are going to be missing, especially when the original sound is still not clear enough. (It had every radio wave on top of the song) Like the first verse of the vocals is clearly done by Roy, but in this restoration it sounds like Jeff was doing the vocals.

Much like the Beatles where they're all good solo but don't come close to the magic of their collaboration. It's the same with these two. I like ELO & Roy's solo work. It doesn't have the magic of their collaboration in The Move.
