By no means do I hate this bike. This is one of the best bikes I have ever owned. The classic 350 is a special bike, we all know that. But it does have some pitfalls. In this video I outline my top 5 "loves" and top 5 "hates" about this motorcycle. Hope you enjoy!
REVIEW: • | Classic 350 Owner's ...
SPOILER:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
** Another "Hate" I forgot to mention is that the bike doesn't come with Tubeless wheels. I think we all would have loved for them to come tubeless from the factory. But thats the price we have to pay "literally" for spoked wheels on a budget.

I got the same bike for 2 years now. Love at first sight. Up until today. One has to understand the philosophy of this machine. And then decide whether to take it or leave it. Best bike I ever had, together with my BMW / EZS side-car outfit I ride for decades, but that's a different story.

Exactly! It is hard to describe the ride this bike provides. People tend to get too carried away with sport bikes and overlook the hidden glory of a bike like this! A side car would make for an exciting ride, one day I will have to experience this. Enjoy, stay upright!

This bike is mainly developed for the Indian domestic market, and it meets those needs perfectly. The international market is small by comparison, so Royal Enfield don't see the need to produce a different version without the speed limiter or more power. I have one and just accept it for what it is and love it.

We are so bless to own this rare and gorgeous modern classic bike. This is a reborn 1952 model a timeless one. Lovely thumping of sounds. Very easy to maneuver and very economical in fuel. Easy to maintain All high-technology motorcycles nowadays are disposable and dangerous to manage and impossible to maintain personally. But this one as long as you are diligent to do the routine maintenance you can pass this to your endless descendants.❤

It's a relief to hear you talk about false neutrals, I was beginning to think it was just me. Most 350 riders say things like "the sweetest gearbox I've ever owned", which has not been my experience. It's mainly the long shift through neutral between first and second, but can appear in other gears. Finding neutral can also be tricky, and the green light doesn't mean it's in neutral, and no light doesn't mean it isn't! However, the box does get better with miles.
@RippleMoto
@RippleMoto 23 күн бұрын
Glad I am not the only one! It definitely seems to be getting better with more miles. And yes I have learnt to never trust the light lol, I let the clutch out very slowly every time to avoid the embarrassment of it tricking me into stalling. Another commenter recommended that I change the angle of the shift lever, as it is slightly too flat. I am going to look into doing this as this might also be a contributor. Enjoy your ride, and stay upright!

I have a red chrome 350 classic. You're spot on about the power. 500 version would be perfect. Not the 650 that's coming (I think); it's not a thumper! I'll probably get another bike but will never part with the 350, unless a 500 single is made. Doing ALL the performance upgrades (filter, pipes, fuelx, camshaft) to the 350 may get you 4-5 more ponies, which given it has only 18-20, isn't that bad but probably changes sound of bike too much. I think RE did rather well with the stock sound of the bike.

Yeah 200% agree with you on the classic 650, its a real shame they arent doing the 500 single. Hopefully in the future. 🤞 And yeah I have heard that having the mods removes some of the character which is a shame, as it does sound amazing stock. Enjoy your red chrome, and stay upright!

From what I've seen, switching to the DNA air filter just changes the sound, while also opening up your engine to more particulates. It doesn't actually make the bike any faster. That comes from just one rider's experience but it made sense. May as well save that money and put it toward some crash guards.

Cool video, another Ozzie here, Qld. I have the same 350 chrome bronze, 2 + years and 14,000km on the clock now. Bought it just after buying a new Interceptor and then a super meteor. The 650’s are very prone to false neutrals on lazy shifts, had them often. The 350 I’ve never had a false neutral at all, not one. Adjusting valves are very easy, plenty of tutorials on KZfaq to follow, the TDC tool I got from Hitchcocks in the Uk, that helps. If doing your own services go for quality oil, genuine filter ( never seen aftermarket filter) oil change is super easy. Put a aftermarket thu pipe between the header and muffler, (stock muffler runs best) together with a DNA hiflow air filter and she runs great, no snatchy on n off the throttle with the fuel injection. The engine just gets better with age, I’ve just replaced the Ceat tyres with Heidenau K60’s to do some dirt road exploring and she runs really good on these. You’re right It’s not the Unicorn bike but it’s very close!

Just another point on the gear shifter, as another viewer said previously, remove the shifter arm and go up a few notches on the shaft then re tighten. This gives a much better relaxed foot position for gear shifts, did it to mine and is so much better. 👍
@RippleMoto
@RippleMoto 4 күн бұрын
Cheers! Glad to hear this bike only gets better with age. Cheers for the recommendations I will look into the pipes, however I havent really noticed it having too snatchy of a throttle. Putting some tyres like that, will be the play when I wear through the current ones. Would love to take it on an adventure tour with some dirt, and yeah honestly I dont mind that its not a unicorn, this bike is too special to me! On the shifter note, yes I am still yet to do it, however since my last service I havent noticed the false neutrals being a problem as of late, but I will be looking at doing this just for the comfort like you mentioned. Cheers for your insights! Enjoy your rides and stay upright!

The DNA Air filter defienetly helps. After I changed DNA to my RE 350 Classic couple things happened: engine got smoother, louder when accelerating and it became possible to achieve speed of 75 mph. If riding under 60-65 mph the fuel consumption stays very economical. True, I also hate the service interval of the bike. It means you must service the bike at least once in the season (in my country meaning the summer of 5 months)

This is really cool to hear! I would love to go to California one day, I hear they have some amazing roads. I am glad you are riding this as your first bike because the classic 350 is special. It exudes a characterful ride, true to motorcycling at its purest. You have made a great choice as being able to experience and love the feel of this bike, when it comes time to test ride and compare potentially different bikes, you will have a much greater sense of the motorcycling spectrum. Too many people stick to one type of motorcycle or manufacturer, so they overlook bikes like this, and will never understand what they are missing out on. Glad to hear you are loving the bike and riding! Have fun, and stay up right!

If you are willing to tinker a little bit, try the fuelX lite , DNA air filter with stage two and 16T front sprocket. These help the bike run a lot smoother at higher speeds. FuelX helps with fuel mapping and makes the bike run cooler and gets rid of any hiccups. DNA air filter with its stage two upgrades lets the bike breathe easier which helps with acceleration. 16 tooth front sprocket from memory will make the gears longer which means at 100kph in 5th gear you should be running the engine 300-500 rpm lower than using the standard 15 tooth. Will this increase top speed? No they are limited by the ABS.
@RippleMoto
@RippleMoto 29 күн бұрын
I will probably have to add these modifications to the list, they do sound like the fix many of my issues with the bike! I have however heard that in changing the fuel mapping, it can remove some of the character of the bike, but for the smoother high speed it might be a worthwhile trade off. I didn't know the ABS limited the top speed that is also very interesting! Thank you for this insight. Have you done these modifications to your own?

It doesn't actually make the bike any faster. That comes from just one rider's experience but it made sense. May as well save that money and put it toward some crash guards. And the FuelX makes you consume gas faster for a rather small change in acceleration curve. Doesn't mean it's not worth it to somebody; but it's not worth it to everybody. You could get the heel toe shifter for that money instead.

If you’re willing to wait a bit I believe Hitchcocks are bringing out a big bore kit for the 350 that will really help with the power problem. One thing that needs sorting is the speedo . Notorious for fogging ( mine does occasionally) which would be a really easy fix for Enfield during manufacturing. Used to 4 gear bikes 5 with this power its fine. Power? I ride at 50 to 60 so its enough for me. I'm retired so cleaning my Red and Chrome classic is therapeutic. Music on comfy seat and detail away its great. Sump guard certainly has help with keeping the engine clean.

Completely agree on the speedo, thats a really good insight. I stated gear indicator for beginners would be helpful as people new to riding would be looking at this a as well. I also stated that not having an indicator adds to the engaging ride, and that I secretly like it for that reason, maybe this wasn't made obvious enough? For the false neutrals, try moving the shift lever one spline clockwise. From the factory they're set a little too flat. With it's less than ample power I don't think it would pull a sixth gear. I was talking to a gentleman today on his BSA Bantam D1. Fully restored and just beautiful. But, with just three gears (shifter on the right) and a very peaky power delivery he said riding it was an art form 😊

Have you heard of the Honda CB350 single? Top speed way higher .. Maintenance way cheaper!!! And looks good too. And reliable and good gearbox selections
@RippleMoto
@RippleMoto 22 күн бұрын
Yes they just released the GB 350 over in Australia, They are a very tempting proposition, however compared to the CB 350, they are less retro looking (still retro just without spoked wheels and some paint schemes). Their engine does solve almost all the issues, expect it loses out on character so I hear. I will have to test ride one though before I can completely say. Do you happen to own one, or have ridden one?

I ride two up 95% of the time and on country roads, she holds and has bit left at 100 to 110 two up. 100 kph 5th with 13 tooth is 4,200 rpm. Rev limiter 6,000 max HP 5,000. I would love to go to India one day, definitely on my bucket list. I have heard great things about the cb350s, just this year in Australia we got them over here. Although they are called the GB350. The CB 350s in India are much nicer looking, as they can have spoked wheels and other nice touches, we sadly dont get that over here. But I really must test ride one of them to see how they stack up. @@RippleMoto Wasn't trying to be rude mate and apologies if I came across like that, we all brother bikers. My point is sometimes we try too hard to list faults just because we have to (5 demerits to match the 5 merits) in order to sound more balance. I happen to think its a bit unfair and sends a wrong message to anyone viewing your videos and might be shopping for a bike in this category. Based on my experience and the experience of the majority of Royal Enfield owners, its one of the least maintenance and reliable bikes in that price range. There is a reason why its the most sold motorcycle in the world, let alone in India. Peace and love your videos.

In hindsight I do wish I expressed more fairness in this video. However if someone is seriously looking into the bike, these are some little things. overall the bike is amazing, i should have emphasised how great the bike is despite these slight issued, in the summary at the end of the video. I will rectify this in my future endeavours. Enjoy riding your classic, stay upright!

Why buy a Royal Enfield if you don't like cleaning bikes or mediocre power? Should jog on passed the showroom to the nearest Shop that sells Japanese fast plastic. I've had 3 Classic 350s, 3 Meteor 350s and an Himalayan, part of the pleasure is cleaning, fettling and detailing the bike and all at a bargain price. Speed also isn't everything.🤔👍

Clearly you don't understand how much i love this bike! I also much prefer "riding" to "cleaning" just not my thing, everyone has things they prefer, we are all human :). Also I come from riding sport bikes, so to say i'm not happy with mediocre power is interesting to say the least. I simply wish it has slightly more power in order to cruise at 110kph easier, not for the thrill of the ride. I am very jealous you have owned such a great collection of bikes! These Royal Enfields are truly special! You should check out my owner's review on it, I express my thoughts on the bike with much more depth! Enjoy, and stay upright!

RE sales have tanked in the USA because people are finding them too slow and heavy for what they are. Do the valves check yourself . RE should have hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive. Then all you have to do is change the oil and filter. Bike should be a 500 then you would have 8-10 more HP. My Sportster has 5 speeds and all of my vintage British motorcycles are 4 speeds . Too much electronics on today's motorcycles.
@RippleMoto
@RippleMoto 27 күн бұрын
I definitely agree with you, if they revised the 500 engine + belt drive it might just be perfect and yeah 5 speed isn't that bad especially (when considering 4 used to exist) The top speed is only honestly a slight downside for this bike as it is not what it is intended for. It is built for a purpose and the amount of fun it gives you riding within those limits is exponential.

We lost 10 HP , hydraulic valve adjustment and a kicker. Basically a stripped down 500 to a 350 at the price of a 500. The old engine was rebuiltable forever ♾️. The new ones are not worth it but they are cheap on the 2 and hand market . Good as a 2nd motorcycle.

Plus they are artistry in metal. Beautiful to look at. Fun and economical. Art that you can ride.
