Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 - How to improve the bike without spending a fortune: In this video I show you some free of charge mods I made to my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 pretty much as soon as I bought it, together with a rear end tail tidy up and swapping out the end cans to provide some fruitier notes. I also demonstrate what the stock exhaust sounds like versus the after market pipes....enjoy! Note: I recorded this a couple of weeks after I bought the bike, I have held off releasing it at TEC's requests as I know they were having some stock issues getting the Cannon Silencers in...that's why regular viewers will note that some other mods I have done since (bashplate and mirrors for example) aren't in place in this video!

Wow - I did not expect the bike to sound like that with new pipes! Sounds so mean - esp without the baffles! Thoes pipes and a few basic mods and you have got yourself a wicked retro bike. Excellent!

Here in the US S&S is already making proper mods for the 650. Exhaust, performance clutches, cams, high compression pistons etc. Really surprised me as they’re more of a Harley/Indian performance company. Very cool stuff and has me even more interested in one of these haha

Probably because the Royal Enfield motors are on the flat track circuit and that brought attention to mods being produced for them.

If he plans to ride during the winter he’d be wise to refit the front mudguard, but leave it off for summer riding.

Neat ! The black tape beneath the tank is just EPIC. Triumph Tee makes you an expensive mechanic for the humble RE :)

Interesting mods, all around! Especially liking the black tape trim around the fuel tank. One thing I like about this model, tho, is the proper front fender. Like Triumph in the days of yore gave you a proper front fender that came down low and covered the wheel from 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock of the wheel. Bikes without this full fender, might as well not have a front fender at all--- all that water and dirt sprays directly onto the frame and engine LOL!

funnily enough, when they were first shown i thought "oh god, it's got stupid small mudguards" and was quite pleased when they put these extensions on. It only goes to show that cusomers vary.......

Superb looking, and sounding bike. I had to smile at the mudguard delete, as I always add fender extenders, and huggers to my bikes, for riding in England's green, but often damp countryside.

Nice job TMF. Found it amusing, though, that changing the exhaust cans was a far easier task than removing a bit of sticky tape. When I took the reflectors off my old KTM Duke, I used some dental floss behind them to 'slice' them off with much of the adhesive. Then a quick wipe with white spirit.

@Mike W Have been using bikes as main transport for 50 years, 12 months a year, from triple 2 strokes with expansion chambers to superbikes, cruisers and quick naked bikes with LOUD exhausts. Ridden all over the world on long trips. Still do tours as health permits (another story now:-(). Raced Enduro, Endurance and Drag. Apart from 24 hour races have never worn ear plugs. Call me stupid if you like..................as I won't hear you LOL! Our generation were not snowflakes. Deaf yes.

Beautiful. The Interceptor sounds really nice but as you mentioned, a bash plate will be a must have addition especially now that you've shortened the front mudguard. I watched Stuart Fillinghams video where he fitted a bash plate. He mentions that the oil filter being at the very front is vulnerable to debris puncturing the filter.

harry palmer Removing baffles just makes this another renegade noise maker to the rest of the world who don't have the sound dampening afforded by the rider's helmet.

Nice bike, reminds of the good old times when things were less complicated... I'd buy it over a Triumph any day and save some serious $$ for things like slip-ons. Owned three XS 650 in the early 90s, I like these old parallel twins, the upright cylinders and those headers. In case the the exhaust is too loud without baffles you could experiment and drill holes into the baffles.

Nice old skool bike mate. I agree with your tidying up of the tail end , but I think we bikers often change stuff just for the sake of changing stuff. Ironically, I recently paid money to add a front mudguard extension to my GS 650 twin, looks a lot like the part you binned ! IMO, the new pipes sounded worse than the stock ones, until you took the baffles out, sweet ! .. Happy Trails !

Following you for about 2 years now and have always wondered just how different the new plates compared to stock. Huge difference but not excessive. Those pipes are respectably mean..ish and get out of my way..ish (white vans pay heed). We all do so love making changes to our bikes, it’s addictive. 👍🏼

AEW exhaust for the interceptor is awesome, a blend of bass and loudness is perfect to keep ur ears from irritation of too loud pipes and the awfully quiet nature of the stock pipes

I removed the rear plastic too and stuck a small round reflector on the number plate off ebay. Left the front one on as keeps the engine cleaner. TIP-- Use your spare black number plate bolts to fill in the holes on the rear guard, looks better than the metal screws. As for the small brackets left on the silencers, leave them alone and live with them, not heard good things about exhaust wrap..!

Just check the rear reflector is on the centre line of the bike. Don’t know how big the reflector has to be.

Great review and mods. I got my A2 license last summer and got a Vitpilen 401...love it but sometimes feel a bit big on it and keep toying with getting an Interceptor or Continental GT, these mods make more tempted to take the plunge.

Don't forget the rear light has no reflector, and so when you remove the splash guard below the number plate you ought to use a rear light with a built in reflector lol, good man !

Interesting video. Do not understand minimal mudguards fitted to modern bikes. Why would people want more muck and stones blown over their bike? Fashion? Beauty in the eyes of the beholder? I put a fender extender on my bike. But it would never do for us all to be the same.

Very Tidy young Mr Flyer !! grab a tiny stick on reflector for the number plate (as is customary amongst rear mud guard removers) just a suggestion .. and as i know you love cleaning bikes the front extender is no loss (i always fit them on as i dont like cleaning ) exhaust sounds great (i look for quiet bikes but then i'm weird !) ..ha !! so just the opposite to what I like to do , but I really do get it and it looks and sounds marvellous. peace and love brother 👍🏻☮❤

Bike looks and sounds great! As soon as I got my last new bike I did a tail tidy and had my 'sensible ' size number plate ready and waiting....so much ugly clutter on the back end of new bikes. But it's all part of the fun and making it your own!! Cheers, Steve ps I bought for very little money a 1966 number plate ...gives the option of black and silver...

Actually it doesn’t give the option of black and silver plate, as it depends on the first date of registration, not just the number it carries, and this bike will always be too new

Great videos, keep up the good work. Should be getting the interceptor delivered next week. I want it to be my touring plateform as I have a Continential GT for fun. What would you recommend in terms of touring gear for the Interceptor? Panniers and duffle dag of some sort I'm thinking. Thinking soft panniers, hard ones were great on the Himalayan (trade up to interceptor recently), but dont suite the interceptor I reckon. Looking at Diablo, Oxford, Trip Machine, etc, thoughts?

Definitely baffles out sounds great don’t Forget the reflectors you can get two small round ones online self-adhesive to sick on number plate ⚙️🔩🔧👍

Thanks for the tips. The motorcycle improved quite a lot with these small changes. I would go for the turning lights next. What I don´t like about the new pipes is just the chrome is not matching the rest of the exhaust system.

Even though "it never rains in southern California" I'm keeping my long fenders and I wish they were longer so the engine wouldn't get crap around the oil filter. Even though here in the mountains I can see Mexico it just snowed over 22 inches a couple weeks ago.

Nice. Baffles out for the win! And I know you filmed this a while ago so it may have been done already - but you are going to need a reflector on the back to satisfy Mr Plod (and mr MOT tester in a couple of years or so) - the original one came off with the rear tail extension thingy you removed.....

If you go to any bike event, it's always the blokes with under sized plates who get pulled over by the law.

Simple and lovely mods. Looks great and definitely sounds good. Only question, how did you get around the MOT especially with regards to the removal of the reflector on the tail. I had mine fail MOT for just that last year!

That gooey stuff on the fork is easily removed with a product called GooGone which we have in Canada. The other thing that often works on that type of cleaning task is WD40. It has a pretty strong ability to dissolve adhesives without ruining paint.
