Stuart. I have to say you are wasted on KZfaq. You need a TV show. Your.voice is just so relaxing to listen to, I came for the bike and now it's just to listen to you describe everything in the most nostalgic way without even trying. Keep up the good work

@@stuartfillinghamI only started riding about 4 years ago, but I had the problem that no one really talks about. All bike are now plastic, too much focus on unusable power and they cannot be repaired without a dealer. The royal enfield has just brought motorcycling back to its original function. Cheap effective personal transport. And you sir just say it as it should be. Thank you

Just as an update, the 2021 RE Interceptor 650 ditched the top screw on the headlight housing. There are now just two screws at about 4 and 8 o'clock on the headlamp, and a notch on top of it that the bezel slides back into. The only process change from this video was A) not needing a very long screwdriver, and B) screwing in the smaller bolts on the flyscreen as the last step, so as to be able to slide that notch on the headlamp unit back in place. Cheers and thanks for the guide, Stuart!

Good info. I just bought a flyscreen for my Interceptor as was a bit daunted by the supplied fitting instructions. Watched Stuarts video and the confidence level went through the roof. Excellent instructions, especially the tips on wiring and the long screwdriver. Outstanding!
@paulaus5 жыл бұрын
The tiny manual (I used my magnifying ring I use for soldering to read it) says to do one side at a time to avoid disturbing the headlight aim. The issue then is loosening and tightening the Indicator nuts, open ended spanner, and then fitting the screen to the already installed brackets are they required a bit of persuasion to line up with the screen after they were already on the bike.
@stuartfillingham70115 жыл бұрын
I didnt follow the instructions Paula's I just took the practical approach. It's easier in my opinion to re align the light afterwards than mess around with it kept in place.
@paulaus5 жыл бұрын
@@stuartfillingham7011 I think doing it your way is better, the manual way runs the risk of stripping one of the 4 small bolts in the brackets due to the need to squeeze them together to get the screen to fit on.

Combine this with the motne risers and it completely changes the look of your instrument cluster for the better. Love this bike, sold the Himalayan yesterday.

Just added this to my RE INT 650 this morning. A few things of note. 1) at least on my bike there is no top screw on the headlight mounting. Only two side screws. Not sure if this is a USA-spec thing or what, but I spent a good 10 minutes looking everywhere for that top screw, only to take a chance that removing (all the way) the two side screws would allow the housing to release. It worked. 2_ I followed the directions in the kit, and that allowed me to avoid taking the entire headlight off and recalibrating headlight level afterwards. A bit of a pain but not too bad. 3) There is a small but noticeable gap between the metal “Royal Enfield” plate and the screen itself. It is as if they are bent at different angles. It not not a major issue as the screen housing fits very nicely on the bracket, with no forcing of any kind, but a bit strange. 4) I do like the look and fit of the screen. It gives the bike a nice finished look, especially on the black colored bike. Wind blast is only slightly reduced, however. Don’t count on this to be a wind blocker on the order of a windshield. It is not. Rather, it gives a bit of relief at highway speed. But it didn’t change the angle of the wind, in my case at least. It still hits me at the top of the shoulders. But I’m keeping the flyscreen - I am quite happy with it. Next step - bar end mirrors.

Thank you for this vid!! Bought a 2021 RE INT last month and love it. I've been upgrading since i got it and wanted this windscreen but didn't want to pay my dealer more to put it on than the screen cost itself. Watched your video twice and an hour later I was riding! The 2021 headlight bezel has 2 screws at the bottom holding it on vs your 1 at the top but other than that spot on. Nice work and keep riding safe.

Cheers for the info Stu. I fitted a tall fly screen today and found it easy after watching you. I didn’t even try to read the included instructions as I couldn’t find a microscope. For information, the 2022 Interceptors ( and probably GT) don’t have a single screw at the top of the shell. They have one each side about 45 degrees down from the centre. You have to remove these fully to remove the lamp. when replacing the rim, there is a slot on top of the shell that a spigot has to slot into first. Keep up the good work. 👍

Appreciate the fine video. Royal Enfield have repositioned the headlamp screws to the side of the dome and just below the indicators. This is seen on my late 2020 Interceptor which has the clear lens headlamp. I have not tried opening the headlamp assembly to check if only partial loosening of the screw is required to access the wiring within. There are two screws visible. One on each side.

Another great video - thank's Stuart. I just installed my fly screen on my new I(2019) Interceptor. My headlight was different than yours - mine has 2 screws that must be removed completely to get the light cover off. There's also a tab at the top that required me to remove the screen in order to reinstall the light cover. Royal Enfield has obviously made some improvements to the headlight assembly.

Turn signal connections do take quite a bit of unnerving prying. This turned out to add more than a few minutes to the installation of my GIVI pannier racks, trying to be careful figuring out just the right amount of poking and prying to get them apart still reasonably intact.

The headlight screws on the 2022 model are on the sides, so no need to se longer screws. I also recommend installing the holding brakes first and leave the shield to the end. This makes fastening the indicator lights a lot easier I found.

Stuart, your videos are the best. Now... My Interceptor was made in March 2019 and... The two screws holding the headlamp bezel were at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock negating the need for the long screwdriver. I also found the original bolts longer than the replacements and I had a spring wire attached to the headlamp attachment bolts that held all the wires. Maybe they have changed the design or have different factories??? Either way it was easy enough but just different on my bike

Sorry to keep bugging you. I installed the Fly screen today, thanks to your video, it wasn't very hard.. The "One bracket at a time" plan did not help keep the headlight aligned. It went from "examining the tread on my front tire" to "looking for enemy aircraft" as I tightened the nuts . I guess it's kind of in the middle now. As for it's effectiveness.. it is very much worth it. I could feel a definite improvement at speed and could easily ride for 2 hours without fatigue. My scooters and my RE 500 all have wind screens and they are nice....but I wanted something different for my Interceptor.

I've just fitted mine and the instructions here were very helpful. However, I didn't have a long Phillips or pozidrive screwdriver. I was going to drive to screwfix or toolstation and get one especially, until I had the idea of doing up the headlight before it was tightened on the bolts. I just angled it down, put it on and tightened up the screw . Then I angled it upright and tightened the lamp bolts at the side. What have I missed doing it this way? I'll probably find out in a minute when I take it out for a ride.

I have one question though, my kit came with four SS flanged inserts that look like they are meant to be inserted into the rubber grommets. The thing is I can't find any info on these inserts. Which way should they be inserted into the grommets, from the front side or the back side of the screen? I figured that as you know everything there is to know about the RE 650 you would be able to answer my question. Thanks Don
