Royal Enfield Scram 411: UK First Ride 4K
This is my 'First Ride' video for my 2022 KZfaq bike. It's the new Royal Enfield Himalayan Scram 411 in Graphite Red. Full specs are on the Royal Enfield website so I won't repeat them here. It's the UK spec bike with the Tripper Pod and ABS as standard and the EU5 compliant engine.
I recorded it on the ride home from the dealer. The bike is fresh out of the crate with tyres and brakes that need running in, and for the first 300 miles, I'll be taking it easy. The video is my first reactions, a ride out of the city and through the Peak District to my home. Part tour part review and first thoughts
This follows my first look video and there will be another one up shortly for the trail riding section.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks David, and yes, for £4599 out the door, with a gear indicator, fuel gauge, bash plate, grab rail and oil cooler guard, it’s quite good really. They are all fun to ride. I’m hoping to have a go on the Classic 350, though I expect it’ll be similar to the Meteor. The scram does have a bit more poke, but it’s still not a fast bike. The 650’s are great though and depending on what you’re coming from might be an easier step. Have fun!

@@allans7281 pretty much. Changes include 19” down from 21 for the front wheel, new dash, doesn’t have the big fairing or the high front side bars, doesn’t have the silly ‘beak’ at the front. New 1 piece seat. Frame, engine and rear suspension are the same. Front forks have 10cm less travel. On road, I think it’s a better bike to ride, particularly the steering with that smaller front wheel (but still the same as what you get on a BMW R1250GS, so not small). If I could get another bike, in addition to the Honda CRF300 Rally, and the Kawasaki KLR650, it would be the Husqvarna Norden 901. Big Rock Moto did a pretty good review of it, if you care to give it a look. Happy Trails

Yup, there’s some scope for fettling and a video or two. I’ve seen the Norden a few times (EICMA and the London show), and the looks don’t do it for me. Too much plastic. I think it’s the same or similar to a KTM 890 underneath, and though also not a fan of the looks, if I had to choose, I’d go orange! That said, it is but looks, and many prefer the Norden. I hate to be “that” guy - but one of the things that put me off is build quality. For RE to step up and compete with Honda etc., it’s that.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, though at the price point, are RE at the same level as Honda? In the UK a Himalayan is £4700 (I think?) and a CRF300 Rally is over £6000 (prices recently went up). Also the build quality on the Honda’s from Thailand leaves a little to be desired, so even that isn’t a fair comparison. Did you have two similar bikes in mind that compete where they cost approximately the same, but the Honda is of higher quality?

I live in Thailand for most of the year. If I didn't have a KTM 390 Duke, I'd be interested in a Scam 411, but of the two, the 390 has to be better. if the Scram was a 511, now that would be a different thing.
@PeakMotorcycles

Not sure how they are priced in Thailand, but over here, a 390 Duke is £5149 vs £4599 for the Scram. Not a lot but perhaps to cover the extra that you get with the 390. I’ve tried a 390 and though it has the better engine, I found it to be a bit small. The Scram has a feel of a bigger bike, even if it doesn’t go like one. And yes, 100% on the 511 🤣. Must interesting to see your review of first impressions of the Scram. I did consider it, but on price, for what might be just a weight saving, yet not appreciable power gain, the lack of center stand, rev-counter etc.. really a stripped down Himalaya.. I'll not part with my coming 1 year old 21 Euro4 Himalaya 20. which is the bench mark by design in it's own rights. Don't get me wrong the Scram will equally have it's market place and a similar following.. interestingly but not likely a just comparison would be to your Ducati Scrambler lest on size all-round. Peaks are a stunning area for sure, lovely to see the ride just for that vista. Cheers

How would you compare the scram to the 300 rally? I can't decide between the two
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 жыл бұрын
For a city bike that you can walk into a dealer and purchase, definitely the Scram. The suspension, ergonomics and comfort work really well on the road and you can get one. For a dual-sport/adventure trail bike, the 300 Rally is the better bike, but there’s a wait for them, and they are nearly 50% more expensive (the Scram is £4599 in the UK and the 300 is £6449, nearly £2k more). Also you can ride the Scram as it comes from the dealer and it works very well. The CRF improves a lot with upgraded suspension and bars. I guess it comes down to what you can get, how deep your pockets are, what you will use it for and ultimately the one you like the best. See if you can test ride both. If that doesn’t help, get both! 🤣

I’ve had some discolouration on mine due to the heat, but no rust yet. Is it a problem on yours?

It even says Himalayan on it. In fact from the bars backwards, other than the seat, I think it’s pretty much identical. I don’t think this is unusual though. Yamaha share the engine and much of the frame between the MT-07, XSR700, Tenere 700 and R7. Swingarms, forks and bodywork vary but it’s all the same platform, just as this is.
